  • Growing For Market Podcast

Radicchio growing, history and cooking with Lane Selman of the Culinary Breeding Network

Radicchio has long been a favorite with market farmers for its ability to provide something colorful and delicious in the fall and winter. But with its adaptation to very specific regions of Italy, figuring out how to grow the vegetable in North America has been a bit of a puzzle. 2643: The Work of Life is Inside: The Joy of Life is Outside

LifeBlood: The work of life is inside. The joy of life is outside. We spend a lot of time searching outside ourselves for the missing piece—the relationship, money, success, recognition, accomplishment, or experience that will finally make us feel whole. But there’s no external solution to an internal problem. The real work is inside: self-awareness, responsibility, forgiveness, discipline, humility, courage, and learning to understand ourselves. But we shouldn’t mistake the work for the life. The purpose of becoming a healthier, stronger, more complete person isn’t endless introspection. It’s becoming more capable of loving, connecting, contributing, serving, creating, and being fully present with other people. And since none of us gets to disappear into the woods until we’ve figured ourselves out, we have to learn to be doing while we’re becoming. This episode explores what it means to live from the inside out, why everyone you meet is an unfinished human being, and how doing the inner work can help us more fully experience the joy waiting outside ourselves. • The Common Sense Practical Prepper

    Prepper Bubble Reality Check

Send us Fan Mail I went to Chicago for a work trip, had a great meeting, caught a Cubs game, and nothing bad happened. But being 12 hours from home by car meant something I did not expect to feel so sharply: I was 12 hours from my preps. No pantry. No familiar systems. No neatly organized gear. Just what I had in my head and what fit in a suitcase. That low-level hum of awareness kicked off a bigger conversation about something many of us in the prepping community rarely name out loud: the prepper bubble. We unpack what that bubble looks like, how podcasts and YouTube and social feeds can normalize disaster thinking, and why it is easy to mistake consuming preparedness content for doing preparedness. Watching a water storage video is not storing water. Scrolling grid-down scenarios is not the same as building skills, supplies, and routines that hold up under stress. We also get into the escalation problem, the endless “what if” treadmill that can make even well-stocked people feel like they are never ready, plus the identity trap that makes it hard to update beliefs once “prepper” becomes part of who you are. Then we bring it back to the most practical takeaway: sometimes the most prepared thing you can do is put the phone down, go outside, and reset your mind. Situational awareness is not just what is happening around you, it is what is happening inside your head, and an overwhelmed brain makes bad decisions. If you want preparedness that travels, focus on judgment, adaptability, and calm.
