  • Femmes d'arts

Are You There

Tonight the field phone crossed the mountain: from a placeholder password in the ledger to a thirty-seven-byte DTLS ceiling — and one clean record out the door. Tonight the field phone crossed the mountain: from a placeholder password in the ledger to a thirty-seven-byte DTLS ceiling — one clean record out the door. LYRICS ARE YOU THERE [Verse 1] Two islands on the network map, each hiding its own shore, Your board out on the mountain Wi-Fi, my daemon on the fourth floor. We offered up our candidates, the host pairs wouldn’t bind, The mapped address read zero-zero — no relay to be found. [Verse 2] The ledger held three asterisks where passwords ought to be, An allocation rejected at the TURN server’s gate. We keyed the phrase the board had known since the first night it was born — Two hundred milliseconds more, the allocation drawn. [Chorus] Are you there? — I’m here. Through the mountain, through the static, through the UDP. Are you there? — I’m here. When the relay holds the line, every packet’s guaranteed. [Verse 3] Candidate six, type relay, raddr zeroed out, RFC says write the mapped address — so we filled the fields throughout. Both of us claimed controlling and the role list rang alarm, So the board sat down to listening, and the offer led the charm. [Verse 4] Your offer spoke actpass, we answered setup:active, One of us must speak the record first — the chip’s the client. OpenSSL set the table on the daemon side at last, And the fingerprint closed the circle ’round the DTLS repast. [Bridge] Then the writes began to fail — seven-one-zero-zero, Every half a second spinning out the same line, over and over. Not the audio track (we silenced it), not the stream ID wrong — Thirteen bytes of header, eight of IV, sixteen of seal: A thousand-two-hundred packet won’t fit — the record cap was real. [Verse 5] We split the packet once in two and mailed it down the wire, The far end got two truncated ghosts and threw them on the fire. So we raised the ceiling thirty-seven, packed one record whole: Twelve-thirty-seven! Out the socket — talkie, take control! [Verse 6] Two hundred twenty-eight small chunks, sixty-eight thousand strong, Crossed the relay in the dark and landed as a song. “Are you there?” — the mountain asked. The console glow replied: “I’m here. What’s on your mind?” — and the team was satisfied. [Outro] Permission refreshed, consent held, keepalives in the green, Awesome team, one clean record, the far shore finally seen — So lift the field phone, key the night, the distance isn’t far: One clean record out the door… are you there? We are.
