Do You Have to Choose Between Purpose & Profit? Using Entrepreneurship to Fight Human Trafficking & Empowering Survivors (ft. Brandi Voth, Speaker, Founder & CEO of The Power Hat Co.)

What if the biggest lie we've been told is that we have to choose between making an impact & making an income? Between following our faith & building a successful business? In this special bonus episode of Why Not #DoBoth™, Kellie sits down with returning guest Brandi Voth to challenge the idea that purpose & profit are competing forces. Together, they explore why entrepreneurship can be one of the most powerful ways to serve others, how to build a business without losing yourself, & why women should never feel guilty for creating both impact & income. Brandi Voth is a social entrepreneur, speaker, & founder of The Power Hat Co., a social enterprise creating economic opportunities for survivors of human trafficking, & The Power Project, a leadership platform dedicated to helping leaders live & lead with purpose. What began as a desire to create dignified employment has grown into a global mission spanning Uganda, Thailand, Indonesia, & beyond—proving that business can be a powerful vehicle for lasting change. In this conversation, Kellie & Brandi dive into the tension so many purpose-driven women feel: balancing faith with entrepreneurship, discerning between a "good" opportunity & a "God" opportunity, charging confidently for the gifts you've been given, & stewarding every opportunity with integrity. Brandi shares how she built a mission-driven company without compromising her values, why success isn't measured by revenue alone, & how living out your calling often means taking the first step before you feel ready. Whether you're building a business, leading a nonprofit, navigating a career pivot, or simply wondering what your next step is, this episode will remind you that you don't have to choose between serving others & succeeding. Sometimes the life you're called to build isn't an "either-or" it's a "both-and." Is Your Career Worth Your Personal Life? Finding Balance in Military Medicine (Ft. Kaiti Walter, PA-C)

Can you build an incredible career without sacrificing your personal life? Is putting your profession first always worth it? And what does “having it all” actually look like when you’re serving in the military, working in emergency medicine, and trying to build a life you love outside of work? Remember: “The Navy owes you nothing, but it can give you everything.” Kellie sits down with Kaiti Walter, PA-C, Lieutenant Commander, Navy physician assistant, emergency medicine provider, educator, & military leader, for an honest conversation about ambition, burnout, relationships, and redefining success. From discovering the physician assistant profession in high school to serving in operational medicine, deploying overseas, and completing one of the Navy’s most competitive Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant Fellowships, Kaiti shares how embracing discomfort has shaped her career & how learning to prioritize her well-being has transformed her life beyond the uniform. Together, Kellie and Kaiti explore what it really means to find balance in a demanding profession, why self-care isn’t selfish, and how success evolves throughout different seasons of life. Kaiti also opens up about navigating divorce, rebuilding her life, finding a healthier relationship, and discovering that sometimes the bravest decision you can make is choosing yourself. In this episode, you’ll hear about: Finding balance as a Navy PA in emergency medicine while building a meaningful life outside of work Whether putting your career first is worth it & what happens when success comes at the expense of your personal life Preventing burnout through intentional self-care, “dopamine days,” & setting healthy boundaries Military relationships, deployments, PCS moves, & navigating dual-career decisions Starting over after divorce, building resilience, and embracing new chapters with confidence. Whether you’re in healthcare, the military, or simply navigating your own career journey, this conversation is a reminder that success isn’t about choosing between ambition and happiness, it’s about building a life where both can thrive. Your Story Matters: Why the Military Needs Better Storytelling in the Social Media Age (ft. Jarred Reid-Dixon, Navy Public Affairs Officer)

What if one of the military's greatest recruiting, mentorship, & leadership tools is already in our hands? Kellie sits down with one of her closest friends, Lieutenant Commander (Sel) Jarred Reid-Dixon. The two have known each other since 2013, when they first met through the Naval Academy, and over the years they've shared not only a passion for serving in the Navy but also a passion for marketing, storytelling, & connecting with people. This is less of an interview and more of a conversation between two longtime friends who care deeply about the future of military storytelling. Before diving in, it's important to note that the views and opinions shared throughout this conversation are their own, based on their personal experiences, and do not represent the official views of the Department of the Navy or Department of Defense/War. Outside of the military, Kellie has built a platform through podcasting, public speaking, pageantry, & content creation, while Jarred has pursued passions in marketing, Pilates instruction, and strategic communications. Together, they explore what they've learned from balancing careers in uniform with creative pursuits outside of it & why those experiences have shaped the way they think about leadership and storytelling. Throughout the conversation, Kellie and Jarred discuss: Why storytelling is one of the military's most powerful, & often underutilized, leadership tools. How the Navy and other military organizations could better partner with creators and influencers to reach the next generation. The difference between chasing followers and telling stories that genuinely make an impact. Practical advice for service members who want to share their experiences online while protecting their careers and maintaining professionalism. Why every creator should identify their "why" before they ever hit publish & why that purpose will matter when criticism, challenges, or difficult conversations inevitably come. This isn't a conversation about becoming famous on social media. It's a conversation about using your voice responsibly, representing your profession with integrity, & recognizing that authentic stories from real people often have the greatest impact. Whether you're an active-duty service member, veteran, military spouse, future officer, or someone trying to build a purpose-driven platform of your own, this episode offers practical insights on leading with authenticity and sharing your story with intention. Because at the end of the day, people don't connect with organizations, they connect with people. And your story just might inspire someone else's next chapter. Show Notes~ Loved Jarred? Why I Left Air Force Intelligence to Chase the Dream I Couldn’t Ignore & How to Know When It’s Time! (Ft. Maria Volodkevich, Author, & Nonprofit Leader)

What if the career you worked so hard to build no longer feels like the life you're meant to live? We have Air Force Academy graduate, former AF intelligence officer, entrepreneur, author, & nonprofit leader Maria Volkevich for an honest conversation about leaving the military, reinventing yourself, & finding the courage to pursue a different dream. After 6 years in the Air Force, Maria made the bold decision to move across the world, earn her master's degree in marketing from the London School of Economics, and launch Little Wingman Press, home to her children's book series Zooming Zoey and Wingman Willie, which celebrates military children. Together, Kellie and Maria discuss what it really means to "do both", from navigating career pivots and entrepreneurship to burnout, therapy, grief, rejection, and learning to build the plane while you fly it. They share how military service shaped their leadership, why failure is often the foundation for success, and how intentional living, not perfection, is what truly moves the needle. You’ll hear about: • Knowing when it's time to make a major career pivot • The 4 failed ideas that led Maria to her successful business • How military service prepares you for entrepreneurship and leadership • Why you have to build the plane while you fly it • Moving the needle 10x more in your biz vs. 2x more • Why grief, joy, ambition, & rest can all exist at the same time • How to stop tying your identity to your title or accomplishments Whether you're considering a career change, building a business, or wondering if it's too late to chase another dream, this episode is a reminder that you don't need the perfect plan, you just need the courage to take the next step.Show notes ~ IG: @zoeyandwillie https://www.instagram.com/maria_volodkevich?igsh=MTBjaWg5a3N6MXExNQ== Website: https://www.zoeyandwillie.com/ Enjoyed this episode? Leadership Starts with Caring: Tips for Young Leaders People Actually Want to Follow (Ft. LTC Amanda Pelkowski, ROTC Commander, University of Texas)

What if the best leaders aren't the ones with all the answers, but the ones who care enough to ask the right questions? Leadership isn't about having a title. It's about how you show up for people every single day. In this annual catch-up conversation, Kellie sits down with returning guest, mentor, and friend Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Pelkowski for one of their most candid and practical leadership conversations yet. As the Air Force ROTC Detachment Commander at the University of Texas, Amanda is responsible for developing the next generation of military officers, but the lessons she shares apply to anyone stepping into leadership for the first time. Together, Kellie and Amanda unpack the leadership advice they wish someone had given them earlier in their careers, from regulating your emotions and building trust to asking better questions, holding people accountable with compassion, and earning credibility long before you have experience. Whether you're a new manager, a young professional, a college student, or someone who hopes to lead one day, this episode is filled with practical strategies you can start using immediately. This conversation feels less like an interview and more like two friends catching up over happy hour, full of honest stories, lessons learned the hard way, plenty of laughs, and leadership advice that will stay with you long after the episode ends. In this episode, you'll learn: • Why "just freaking care" may be the most important leadership principle you'll ever hear. • The leadership habits every young professional should develop early. • How emotional intelligence separates good leaders from exceptional ones. • Why asking thoughtful questions builds more respect than pretending to know everything. • How to hold people accountable without losing their trust. • Why mastering your own emotions is the foundation of leading others well. • How reliability, preparation, and consistency help you stand out early in your career. • Why your passions outside of work actually make you a stronger leader. • Practical leadership lessons that apply whether you're in the military, corporate world, or anywhere in between. If you're looking for actionable leadership advice, want to grow your confidence as a young leader, or simply become the kind of person others genuinely want to follow, this episode is for you. How to Open Your Heart to Others' Experiences (FBF)

FLASHBACK FRIDAY! Originally aired June 7, 2020. Some conversations age well because the lessons behind them are timeless. In this episode, Kellie reflects on the importance of listening, empathy, and taking the time to understand experiences different from our own. While this conversation was recorded during a pivotal moment in our nation's history, the message remains just as relevant today. Growth begins when we become curious about other people—their backgrounds, perspectives, beliefs, challenges, and experiences. Meaningful connection doesn't come from having all the answers. It comes from asking thoughtful questions, listening with an open mind, and being willing to learn. As a military officer, creator, and someone who has lived all over the world, Kellie shares why conversations with people from different walks of life have shaped her perspective and helped her become a better leader, friend, and human being. Turning Hardship into Hope: Your Beginning Doesn't Define Your Becoming (ft. Brittney Putman, Miss Ohio 2026 Volunteer)

What if the circumstances you were born into didn't determine the future you were capable of creating? This week's episode is a special one. As Brittany Putman, Miss Ohio Volunteer 2026, takes the stage at Miss Volunteer America this week, I couldn't think of a better time to share her story! Brittany is the kind of woman every young girl should look up to and every mom should encourage her daughter to listen to. Her journey is proof that your circumstances do not have to define your future. This conversation is especially meaningful to me because I had the honor of serving on the judging panel when Brittany was crowned Miss Ohio Volunteer. Watching her use her platform to serve others, advocate for families impacted by addiction, and inspire those around her has been incredible. As a first-generation college student, entrepreneur, advocate, future attorney, and founder of You're Important Too, Brittany has dedicated her life to helping others realize that their story is still being written. In this episode, you'll learn: • How to break generational cycles and rewrite your story • Why your beginning doesn't define your becoming • The power of advocating for yourself when others doubt you • How pageantry can build confidence, leadership, and purpose • Why authenticity matters more than perfection • How to balance ambition, service, education, and personal growth Tune in for a conversation about resilience, purpose, confidence, and creating a future bigger than the one you were handed, and join me in cheering Brittany on as she competes for the Miss Volunteer America crown this week! How I Organize my Multi-Passionate Lifestyle (FBF)

“You can’t do it all.” “You just don’t have the time.” Kellie has heard these excuses countless times whenever people talk about why they aren’t pursuing their passions, interests, or goals. But she has never accepted them as limitations. From a young age, she made the decision to fully pursue the things that inspired her, refusing to believe she had to choose between career success and a fulfilling personal life. She breaks down the systems, habits, and mindset shifts that have helped her build a life rooted in purpose instead of burnout. Become the Woman You Needed to See: Leadership, Visibility & Refusing to Play Small (ft. Angelena Garland, U.S. Army Captain)

What if the dreams you thought were “too big” were actually preparing you for your purpose all along? In this episode, Kellie interviews Angelena C. Garland, Army Captain, leader, mentor, and social media brand ambassador, for a conversation about ambition, identity, leadership, and refusing to shrink yourself to fit someone else’s expectations. Angelena opens up about almost not joining the Army at all, and how one recruiter changed everything simply by speaking to her like a person, not a number. She reflects on being a young woman with dreams of modeling, leadership, visibility, and impact, and how, despite those around her doubting her, the Army became the vehicle that aligned with all of those goals rather than limiting them. Angelena shares how ignoring a high school boyfriend who told her she couldn't pursue her dreams changed the course of her life, and why the right partner supports your growth instead of limiting your potential.Angelena also shares her journey from enlisted Soldier to Army officer through the Army’s Green to Gold program and ROTC, eventually graduating Summa Cum Laude and becoming a respected leader in public affairs. But beyond rank and accolades, one of the most powerful parts of her story is how she has consistently shown up online since 2013 as her full self: bold, feminine, ambitious, beautiful, disciplined, and deeply rooted in service. In a world that often tells women they must choose between professionalism and personality, Angelena’s story challenges that entirely. She talks about why representation matters, why women need to SEE women leading in these spaces, and how using the gifts God gave you should never be something you apologize for. This episode is about purpose, visibility, supportive relationships, faith, leadership, and becoming the person you needed to see. Steps to Become a More Confident Leader (FBF)

Confidence isn’t something people are born with — it’s something they build. This week’s Flashback Friday episode takes us back to October 2022, as we celebrate Kellie’s 12-year Active Duty Navy anniversary THIS SATURDAY! In this episode, Kellie shares her personal leadership journey and how confidence wasn’t something that magically appeared overnight; even years into her military career. From stepping into small leadership roles as a kid to growing through challenges in the Navy and beyond, she opens up about the reality that leadership is built through consistent action, not perfection. So many people hold themselves back because they believe they’re “just not naturally a leader.” Maybe you want to speak up more, take initiative, step outside your comfort zone, or trust yourself more — but don’t know where to start. This episode breaks down three practical ways to begin building confidence and becoming the leader you’re capable of being: Get involved. Reflect on your growth. Find mentors who challenge and inspire you. Whether you’re a student, young professional, service member, creator, or simply someone looking to become more confident in everyday life, this conversation is a reminder that leadership starts long before a title is given. It starts the moment you decide you’re capable of more. Your confidence journey starts here! Episode originally aired October 28, 2022. Enjoyed this episode? From Naval Officer to Hollywood: Making Time for the Passion You Can’t Ignore (ft. Rylan Tuohy, Viral Sensation, Writer, Director, Naval Academy Grad)

Most people wait until life slows down to pursue what they love. Rylan built a filmmaking career in the middle of one of the most demanding environments in the country. Before content creation was a career, before “doing both” was a trend, he was a physics major at the Naval Academy, making viral videos in his dorm room, proving you didn’t have to choose between discipline and creativity. In this episode, Kellie interviews longtime friend Rylan Tuohy: writer, director, entrepreneur, former Naval Officer, and someone she has known for over 15 years. Kellie and Rylan attended the United States Naval Academy together in 2013 and 2014, during which Kellie watched him become one of the earliest examples of what it truly meant to “do both.” While balancing the demands of the Academy and studying applied physics, Rylan was also creating videos, producing the infamous Navy football and Army-Navy "Spirit Spots," and building viral YouTube content long before influencing or content creation were considered viable career paths. The two even worked together as Army-Navy game correspondents and collaborated on several of the videos that helped make Rylan one of the most recognizable creators in the military space at the time. In this conversation, Rylan opens up about balancing his creative passion with the structure and pressure of military life, why he chose the Naval Academy over film school, and how he learned to be incredibly intentional with his time. He talks about creating without overthinking, trusting his instincts, and making time for what he wanted to do — not just what he had to do. Kellie and Rylan also dive into the moment he realized storytelling and filmmaking were no longer just hobbies but his true calling. He shares what it was like to leave the Navy, bet on himself fully, and pursue production and Hollywood full-time, a decision that ultimately led him to found his own production company and direct projects tied to Top Gun: Maverick, Masters of the Air, The Terminal List, and more. This is a vulnerable and honest conversation about creativity, pressure, transition, discipline, identity, and learning to pursue a life that feels aligned rather than simply stable. Rylan is truly one of the pioneers of what “doing both” looks like, and Kellie is honored to finally share his story. Links to some of Rylan’s most iconic videos!
