    NDP leader David Eby is under attack by opponents for benefiting from B.C.’s now-paused $10 per day daycare. Eby, who is married to a physician, confirmed his children are in a subsidized daycare facility. The BC Conservatives responded to the comments, made at a Sunday campaign stop, by saying David Eby looks after David Eby first while struggling parents deserve a premier who looks for a solution for affordable daycare. The NDP has responded by saying childcare fees in B.C. have declined by 50 per cent since 2017.

    The MLA for Victoria-Beacon Hill has been kicked out of the BC Conservative caucus over social media posts that promote violence toward pro-Palestinian protestors. Joachim Agou has been removed by leader Lorne Doerkson who says there’s no excuse and the actions will not be tolerated. Agou’s name has been removed from the Conservative’s website - he will likely still appear on the BC election ballot next to his former party affiliation. NDP leader David Eby promises to freeze ICBC rates for three years, claiming his government has already held the costs for the previous ten years. The campaign promise comes as the NDP and Conservatives announce two different approaches to ICBC. Conservative leader Lorne Doerkson is calling for an end to no-fault insurance. The NDP is also accusing the Conservatives of sending a ‘private’ letter to trial lawyers promising changes to the system - that letter was widely distributed to thousands of lawyers and reported on by the media two years ago.

    There’s an early start to B.C.’s cold and flu season as health officials ramp up vaccines. For the first time, an enhanced flu shot is being offered as well as am RSV immunization for seniors. Two mRNA vaccines will be available for those wanting to avoid COVID-19. While cases are on the rise earlier than usual, they are remaining at a moderate level…so far.

    The main accused in the Tumbler Ridge mass shooting apparently had a coconspirator from Washington state. Members of the FBI and RCMP have told a Seattle news conference James Cody Bryant, 30, of Bellingham, assisted Jesse Van Rootselaar by providing advice, money and technical assistance. Bryant has now been arrested and charged in one of Canada’s deadliest mass shootings. Eight people, including six children, were shot at a home and school in Tumbler Ridge back on Feb. 10.

    NDP leader David Eby continues to defend his campaign promise of additional taxes for those who earn over $190,000 per year and a new provincial tax bracket for those who make more than $1M. Eby says he cheers those who make more money but also notes it’s all right to ask them to pay more in income tax. The BC Conservatives call the move a doctor tax and say Eby’s plan will deter physicians from coming to the province. Meanwhile, the Conservatives are promising a $50M emergency fund to help fight those temporary ER closures - especially those in the BC Interior.

    NDP leader David Eby promises a crackdown on the rich if re-elected premier. Eby says a new NDP government would make sure those earning more than $190,000 would pay additional taxes. A new tax bracket would also be made for those earning over $1M a year. During a Sunday campaign stop in Comox, Eby also said that means over 96 per cent of British Columbians would see no new provincial tax increases. BC’s election day is Oct. 24.

    The BC Conservatives promise no new taxes and to never raise taxes for British Columbians. Leader Lorne Doerkson’s first campaign promises came during a stop in Surrey on Sunday. The NDP has responded by saying that announcement puts government services at risk. The Conservatives have yet to name candidates in several Surrey ridings including Cloverdale, Fleetwood, Guildford and Newton.

    A child killer who murdered a 10-year-old girl in Surrey has been granted a 60-day, unescorted pass from prison so he can attend a cooking school. The Parole Board of Canada has approved the leave for Shane Robert Ertmoed who is serving a life sentence for first degree murder. Ertmoed abducted, sexually assaulted and killed Heather Thomas on Oct. 1, 2020. Heather was playing outside her father’s Cloverdale townhouse complex when she was abducted. Her body was found a week later in Alouette Lake.

    NDP leader David Eby has opened his re-election campaign by promising more major projects to rebuild B.C.’s economy. The ‘Build B.C. Strong’ slogan leans into investments including $3.5B to expand FortisBC’s Tilbury LNG expansion. Recent polling indicates the NDP lags other parties in terms of voter confidence in economic leadership. Former BC Conservative leader John Rustad has announced he will not be seeking re-election. The Nechako Lakes MLA was booted from the party by short-lived leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay but invited back after she quit. Rustad now says it’s time for an older generation of politicians to step aside. Four NDP MLAs have also announced they will not be running in this snap election.

    David Eby has called a snap election for Oct. 24. That’s two years ahead of schedule as Eby says he needs a strong mandate in the face of Donald Trump’s trade war. The election also comes after embattled BC Conservative leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay stepped down. Many reporters and political watchers are questioning Eby’s election call in light of problems within the BC Conservative Party. Meanwhile, upstart political party CentreBC has lost seven of it eight MLAs to the newly regrouped Conservatives. That includes party leader Peter Milobar who will now be replaced by Surrey-Cloverdale MLA Elanor Sturko. The Conservatives managed to get 44 seats in the Legislature following the last election - the party now has 28 MLAs. Also - Health Minister Ravi Kahlon says he will not run in the election. The North Delta MLA says the time is right for the next champion to step forward and carry on his work. Kahlon has thanked the people of North Delta who elected him three times. He says it’s now time to focus on his family.

    The BC Conservatives now say the party is ready for any snap election. That word comes from interim leader Lorne Doerkson a day after Kerry-Lynne Findlay resigned from the role. Doerkson tells Global News six MLAs who left the party have been invited back. Original leader and MLA John Rustad is already saying he is rejoining. The move comes ahead of the Abbotsford-Mission byelection which still has Findlay representing the Conservatives.

    Kerry-Lynne Findlay has bailed on leading the BC Conservatives. The embattled far-right politicians has quit only four months after being chosen leader of the Conservatives. Her resignation follows a mass exodus of Conservative MLAs who’ve quit over Findlay’s leadership style. It also comes after several top party staff members have either quit or been fired over the summer and the discovery the party hired a private investigator to look into political rivals and members of the media. Findlay’s says too much energy has been spent on party infighting instead of challenging the NDP and preparing to form government.

    BC Conservative leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay is shrugging off any suggestions that she should step down after new allegations her party used donor funds to hire a private investigator to spy on critics. The development comes as the party tries to find the owner of a social media account, known as The Findlay Files, which posts leaked internal information about party infighting. Findlay is seeking a seat in the BC Legislature and campaigning in the Abbotsford-Mission byelection. Premier David Eby has been hinting he’ll call a snap election.

The premier dropped even more hints Wednesday suggesting the NDP is ‘election ready.’ Eby admits his party’s hold on power is fragile following the passing of MLA Joan Phillip. Under normal circumstances, the next provincial election would be Oct. 21, 2028. However, many political watchers believe the BC Conservatives are struggling with a lack of confidence in leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay who is currently campaigning in the Abbotsford-Mission byelection.

    A man from New Westminster has been charged with child-sex crimes in Canada after an international investigation resulting from a tip to the RCMP’s child exploitation unit. Five children in the Philippines have been rescued after officers in B.C. shared information dating back to 2023. Gerard Saunders is now charged with possession of child sex abuse material, making that material and trying to lure a child. Police say the mother of the children also faces child-sex exploitation charges.

    B.C. is on track to hit a $13.8B deficit by the end of the provincial fiscal year. That news comes as Finance Minister Josie Osborne blames geopolitical events and a bad wildfire season for a terrible fiscal quarter. However, Osborne says the province is still on track for stable economic growth. The financial update comes as BC Conservative leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay campaigns in the Abbotsford-Mission byelection, hoping to get a seat in the Legislature. The yet to be named B.C. centre-right political party has a seventh MLA. Boundary-Similkameen MLA Donegal Wilson has joined the party led by former Conservative Peter Milobar. Wilson says her decision follows a lack of trust in Kerry-Lynne Findlay.

    New questions are being raised about what Surrey mayoral candidate Linda Annis knew about a man being treated in hospital after being bitten by one of her dogs. Global News has learned a victim sent a text to Annis saying he received 27 stiches for a deep wound. The attack happened back on May 31. At the time Annis told a reporter it was just a nip after her dalmation went into defensive mode. Annis has received $700 in fines for the attack and not having licenses for her two dogs.

    Members of the B.C. wine industry are expressing concern over Donald Trump’s new tariffs on Canadian alcohol products saying it will damage recent relationship building. Very little Okanagan wine is exported to the States but some say the tariffs will damage exposure to key writers and influencers. The Wine Growers of BC is calling on those in the provincial and Canadian distribution systems to ramp up the promotion of domestic products.

    A stray bullet has killed a senior in his Burnaby apartment suite. Police have identified a group of teens who they say were in the area where Chang Yong Cho was shot. The body of 85-year-old Cho has been found in a social housing complex on Kingsway by RCMP conducting a welfare check. The discovery was made about a block away from where Mounties responded to a shots-fired call on Aug. 30. No arrests have been made.

    Canada’s new dollar-for-dollars tariffs against the U.S. are now in effect. As promised, $28B worth of American imports have been hit with the new levy, ranging from 15 to 50 per cent, as the trade war between the two countries escalates. U.S. President Donald Trump has spent the weekend posting social media jabs including an American flag covering much of North America. He has also targeted Canada’s largest aircraft manufacturer saying, “No more selling Bombardier in the United States!”
