Tom Woods and Darryl Cooper (Martyr Made) continue the conversation Cooper began on The Tucker Carlson Show — this time going deeper. They open with Wendell Berry's description of the "ancient norm" of a good life: perceiving your calling, making a home, raising a family, growing old among neighbors, and dying surrounded by loved ones. It sounds obvious — yet it's precisely what modern society now treats as quaint, and the subject of the conversation is why.
Cooper argues that for all of human history, people found meaning by plugging themselves into lasting things — family, community, church, a people — things that outlive the individual. In roughly the last sixty years, that entire project of communal life has been dismantled, replaced by atomized individuals chasing fleeting public attention. Tom and Darryl trace the mechanics: how the state deliberately broke up self-governing ethnic neighborhoods and parishes, why a people's culture is truly irreplaceable once lost, and what Ireland — a colonized nation with no colonial guilt — reveals about what's happening across the West.
The conversation closes on the only realistic answer: you cannot elect your way out of this. Meaning is rebuilt at the local level, face-to-face — knowing your neighbors, going to church, and being the one who takes the initiative. Electing the right people won't fix it; only you will.
