The Parenting Wisdom

Efrat Amira

The Parenting Wisdom Podcast is a place where we explore parenting from a truly holistic perspective. I believe that a wise parent is one who asks questions, keeps an open mind, and also trusts their deep inner knowing.

Here, we integrate insights from psychology, sociology, holistic medicine, child development science, philosophy, and ancient wisdom. Because there is no single “right” way to parent — each of us is unique, and every child is a unique soul.

The guiding principle of The Parenting Wisdom Podcast is that parents are their children’s leaders. And as leaders, we must be both humble and courageous as we raise children who will grow into independent, resilient, and fulfilled human beings — ready to share their unique gifts and live lives of meaning and purpose.

We believe that our children are strong and capable, and that challenges are part of their growth. Our role is to let them face those challenges while remaining their safe haven — the steady presence they can always count on, no matter what.

Why Your Anxious Child Doesn't Have a Feelings Problem, They Have an Identity Problem

Is your anxious child struggling with an identity problem rather than a feelings problem? Learn why modern labels miss the mark.We often rush to label our children with mental health labels or gender identities before they have any grasp of their own values or family history. This societal pressure to define the self constantly can leave kids feeling overwhelmed by the weight of their own freedom.Anxious child behavior is rarely just about feeling too much. By shifting our focus from immediate symptom management to building a foundation of core values, we help children navigate the world without getting lost in these premature definitions. When we stop viewing our child's distress as a problem to be solved and start seeing it as a crisis of meaning, we provide the stability they actually need for healthy emotional resilience.Subscribe for weekly parenting advice breakdowns, and let me know in the comments how you handle these difficult conversations at home.

Why Your 'Empathetic' Parenting Is Making Your Child Selfish

Are you an empathetic parent raising a child who can't handle the word "no"? Who breaks down at every frustration, speaks disrespectfully, or expects you to fix everything? You're not doing it wrong because you lack empathy. You might be doing it wrong because of it.In this video I'm going to show you the 4 ways empathy backfires in parenting — and what ancient wisdom from Plato, Buddha, and Jewish mysticism (the Tanya) teaches us about what empathy is actually for.The answer has everything to do with two inner forces every human is born with — and your job as a parent is not to remove your child's discomfort. It's to help them move through it.In this episode:✔ The 4 patterns that steal your child's maturation moments (without you realizing it)✔ The difference between empathy and enmeshment — and why it matters✔ What the animal soul and godly soul have to do with raising resilient kids✔ Exactly what to say to a toddler, a tween, and a teenager in the moment✔ What a truly mature person looks like — and how you help your child become oneChapters:00:00 The Challenge of Modern Parenting02:48 Understanding the Animal and Godly Soul06:10 Patterns of Overprotection in Parenting09:04 Empathy vs. Enmeshment in Parenting11:59 Practical Strategies for Different Age Groups14:51 The Journey Towards Maturation

The One Lesson Every Child Needs to Escape Victim Thinking

Your kid comes home from school and the first words out of their mouth are: "Why does this always happen to me?"What you say next is shaping how your child sees the entire world — as a place that is out to get them, or a place they can navigate from a position of strength. In this video I teach you one concept from ancient Jewish wisdom that changes that answer forever. Not through lectures or pep talks — but through the way you respond in the small, everyday moments when your child comes to you hurt, frustrated, or stuck. You will learn:- Why children default to "why me" thinking and what is really behind it- The spiritual root of this idea from the book The Art of Elevation by Yechiel Harari- 4 practical principles from ancient Jewish wisdom that you can start using today- What to say instead of "Are you okay?" in the hardest parenting momentsThis is not about positive thinking. Why Modern Kids Are Anxious- And the Three Habits That Fix It

Your child isn't anxious because of school, screens, or pressure- those are just the places where anxiety lands. In this episode I share what anxiety really is (hint: it's not fear), the three "thieves" that quietly stole meaning from modern childhood — the achievement-obsessed schedule, the lost outdoors, and the family that became a taxi service- and the three connections that bring meaning and calm back into your child's life: belonging, nature, and the sacred. Simple habits. No cost. Stop Asking Your Kid "How Does That Make You Feel", Use This Ancient Kabbalistic Advice Instead

Join the 10 week class- The Soul Map of Parenting here: https://www.efratamira.com/soulparentingWhen your child is hurting, your instinct is to sit with them, validate the feeling, and make them feel seen. And that instinct is right — but it's only half the picture. In this episode I want to show you why staying in the validation moment, without moving past it, can actually keep your child stuck. And what to do instead. We'll explore an idea rooted in ancient Jewish wisdom — that emotions are a powerful life force, and like all light, they need a vessel to shine through. When there's no vessel, the emotion overwhelms everything. When there is — it becomes something your child can actually use. Then I'll walk you through three real situations every parent faces — a bad grade, being left out, sibling jealousy — and show you the exact moves that help your child move from feeling like a victim of the situation to seeing it as information they can act on.Because you can't directly change how your child feels. But you have enormous influence over how they interpret what happened. And that changes everything.00:00 Understanding Children's Emotions06:13 The Power of Interpretation11:40 Navigating Social Challenges14:38 Building Emotional Resilience

When to Validate Your Kids Feelings (And When Not to)

🔗 Parenting Wisdom Membership — launching May 19th:https://www.efratamira.com/community1🔗 Full interview with Yechiel Harari: https://youtu.be/m92MWmACDBs?si=EykX6fUiYgfI5c7iAs parents, we've moved away from the old model — power, control, shame — and toward something more empathetic. We validate our children's feelings, hold space, and try to make them feel seen. And that shift matters. But many of us have ended up with a lot of empathy and not a lot of direction. We've traded control for acceptance — and somewhere in between, we lost our authority. This video is about finding the middle ground. Parenting with authority not control. Seeing your child fully — and leading them at the same time.Drawing on the foundations of Jewish psychology, as explained by Yechiel Harari in his book Breaking the Boundaries of Personality, I explore a concept that completely changed how I see my role as a parent: the difference between wanted and unwanted emotions. Not good or bad emotions — but emotions that move your child toward connection and growth, and emotions that pull them inward and block who they truly are. This one idea — once you really get it — shifts you from validator to director. And that shift is what spiritual parenting actually looks like in practice. In this episode I walk through two real scenarios — a child losing a board game and sibling jealousy — and show exactly how the therapeutic approach and the Jewish wisdom approach handle each one differently. If you've ever wondered how to respond to your child's emotional outbursts without shaming them or losing your authority — this is the episode for you.

👉 Join Becoming Leaders- Raising Leaders program here: https://www.efratamira.com/blrlprogram👉 Join The Parenting Wisdom Community FB group for weekly Parenting Q&A:https://www.facebook.com/share/g/17mDYDmSNa/In this episode, we take a thoughtful and nuanced look at ADHD.Is it truly a lifelong neurodevelopmental disorder rooted in genetics and brain chemistry?Or could it also be understood as a difference in cognitive wiring — one that may thrive in certain environments and struggle in others? If you’ve ever noticed that a child can focus for hours on something they love but “can’t sit still” in school… this conversation matters. We explore:* What mainstream institutions say ADHD is* How it’s diagnosed* Recommended treatments* Where debate exists in the research* How environment shapes attention and behavior* And what ADHD means — and what it doesn’tThis is not about denying struggle. It’s about expanding the lens.We examine how ADHD is defined by:* The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)* The National Resource Center on ADHD, a program of Children and Adults with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD)* Clinical guidelines from the American Academy of PediatricsWe also discuss what it means when millions of children fit these criteria — and how prevalence shapes the “deviance” conversation.Beyond diagnostic criteria, we look at two major social trends:1. Parents losing confidence in their natural authority and capacity.2. Rising rates of anxiety, depression, and ADHD diagnoses in children. Is over-parenting playing a role? How does modern structure — schools, screens, sedentary life — interact with certain temperaments? This episode invites you to question the narrative without dismissing the complexity. 🧠 The Neurodiversity PerspectiveWe explore alternative frameworks, including: 📖 ADHD: A Hunter in a Farmer's World by Thom HartmannThe idea that ADHD traits may have been advantageous in hunter-gatherer environments — hyper-vigilance, rapid decision-making, stimulation-seeking — but clash with modern “farmer-style” systems built around routine and sustained focus.### 📖 ADHD Is Not an Illness and Ritalin Is Not a Cure by Yakov OphirA critique of the medical model and an examination of whether ADHD meets traditional criteria for mental illness.### 📖 The Myth of the ADHD Child by Thomas ArmstrongA strengths-based look at ADHD traits and how reframing can shift outcomes. We also reference the work of Daniel Amen, who discusses multiple brain patterns associated with ADHD and describes it as different wiring rather than illness.Instead of suppressing behavior through labels, coercion, or fear, this episode invites parents to become advocates for their child’s nature while still providing strong structure and accountability.## ⚖️ A Balanced TakeThis is not a medical directive. It’s an invitation to think critically.Your lens will determine:* How you interpret behavior* What solutions you pursue* And how your child sees themselves## 🚀 Work With MeIf this conversation resonates with you, my **Becoming Leaders, Raising Leaders** program walks you through a 10-week process of stepping into your role as a calm, grounded, benevolent leader in your home.https://www.efratamira.com/blrlprogramWe focus on:* Vision* Family culture* Meaning* Structure* Emotional leadership* Raising resilient, confident childrenDetails are in the link below.## 📺 Related Episodes* Parenting strategies for children with ADHD (non-medication approaches)* Upcoming episode: A research-based look at ADHD medication side effectsSubscribe so you don’t miss it.👉 Join my newsletter to receive weekly parenting insights and updates here: https://www.efratamira.com/newsletter👉 The Parenting Wisdom Website: https://www.efratamira.com/

But what if leadership in the home isn’t oppression — it’s love in action? In this episode, Efrat shares a powerful 5-step framework to help you step back into your role as a calm, confident, benevolent leader — without yelling, shaming, or crushing your child’s spirit. If you want a home where your word carries weight, your boundaries are respected, and your children feel secure under your leadership, this episode is for you.In This Episode, You’ll Learn:1️⃣ Belief – Reclaim Your Rightful RoleMany modern beliefs — from extreme democracy to mistrust of authority — have weakened parents’ confidence in leading their homes.Efrat explains why:If you doubt your right to lead, your children will doubt your instructions.Boundaries do not equal oppression. You were chosen to guide your child — and you have what it takes.Leadership begins with belief.2️⃣ Emotional Regulation – Authority Is QuietAnger doesn’t create authority — it destroys it.When we yell or lose control:We step down into immaturity. We enter power struggles. We surrender leadership to our emotions.True authority is grounded, calm, and regulated. You’ll learn practical tools to:Neutralize emotionally charged momentsCalm your nervous systemRelease adrenaline in healthy waysShift thoughts that fuel frustrationBecause regulated parents lead secure children.3️⃣ Consistency – Root Boundaries in ValuesInconsistent boundaries weaken authority.Efrat explains why:Boundaries that stem from clear family values are easier to uphold. 4️⃣ Perspective Shift – Discipline Is for ThemDiscipline is not selfish. It’s not about your comfort. It’s about:Socializing your childTeaching responsibilityGuiding them toward maturityHelping them think beyond themselvesWhen children feel that your boundaries serve a greater purpose — a bigger vision, a family “North Star” — they’re more inspired to follow. This is what benevolent leadership looks like.5️⃣ Execution – Integrity Creates SecurityYour word must mean something. If you say it:Follow through on promises.Follow through on consequences.Don’t threaten what you won’t enforce.Children feel safest when they know your word is steady and reliable.Integrity builds trust.Trust builds authority. When you embody these five steps, your children don’t follow you out of fear — they follow you because they feel safe.Reflection QuestionWhich step is hardest for you right now?Belief?Regulation?Consistency?Perspective?Execution?Let’s work on it together. If this episode resonated with you, be sure to like and share it so more parents can step into calm, confident leadership in their homes. And don’t forget to check out the related episode on emotional regulation and neutralizing anger for practical nervous system tools. You are not meant to be your child’s best friend. You are meant to be their leader.Chapter List:00:00 The Struggle of Parenting Communication00:26 Regaining Parental Authority00:59 The Five-Step Framework Overview01:07 Step 1: Belief in Authority02:56 Step 2: Emotional Regulation06:05 Step 3: Consistency in Boundaries08:38 Step 4: Perspective Shift on Discipline10:35 Step 5: Execution of Boundaries👉 Join my newsletter to receive weekly parenting insights and updates here: https://www.efratamira.com/newsletter👉 The Parenting Wisdom Website: https://www.efratamira.com/
