THIS WAS A VERY FUN SHOW, HAD ALMOST ZERO PREP DONE FOR IT (Ep #1306)
Episode 1306 of The Clay Edwards Show, with Creston Berch. JPD hiding under the stack on I-20 catching Rankin County folks on the way into Jackson, a shackled suspect whooping detectives in an elevator at headquarters, Kenneth Stokes mad about armed marchers on California Avenue, and a Tennessee execution that didn’t take. Hour 2 opens with Patrick Kelty of Kelty Tile, Marble & Home Remodel. Clay opens by snitching, which he hates doing. JPD is set up westbound under the stack on the Rankin side of the Pearl River, tucked behind a beam, while Jackson still has plenty of its own problems. Construction zone, 50 mph, flow of traffic be damned. Then the story that started as a FAFO video and ended with the award going the other way: 22-year-old Cameron Mitchell, on probation for felony fleeing, in for a robbery interview via the U.S. Marshals. Interview stops, two detectives escort him toward detention, elevator turns into a brawl. Handcuffed and shackled, headbutts, knees, chains. Five detectives pulled in, one hospitalized, all back at work, Mitchell still in jail. Chief Rochelle Brackney calls it a bloody fight in close quarters and says they’re reviewing how suspects move through the building. Clay and Creston get into front-cuffing versus belly chains, weapon retention, the 2013 Eric Smith killing inside headquarters, and why “wrap your arms around him and tell him you love him” is not a use-of-force policy. WLBT’s correction on the strangling detail gets a nod, and so does Chris Fields’ glow-up from night runs to the studio suit. Hour 1 stays local. Mississippi Free Press is the source Clay would rather pour bleach in his eyes than cite, but the topic is the topic: Kenneth Stokes sees about 30 armed people from the Fred Hampton Gun Club, the Black Clan, and the Black Panther Party marching California Avenue over what they frame as lynchings. Brackney says no street closure, no noise waiver, no permit required, and that the Second Amendment covers it. She also says Fortune was not hung by a roving band, three men are in custody, Wiley is still under investigation, and Wells’ cause of death is undetermined. Clay’s correction: three black men, not the white-supremacist posse the internet ordered, and “national scrutiny” is not a couple of loud accounts. **The Clay Edwards Show — Come Debate. Leave 1619 at the Door.** I keep hearing I won’t sit down with Black content creators. I have. I’ve been on their shows. What I will not do is chase grown men to argue on a show with my name on it. Open invite: conversation, not a debate-club stunt. You want the chair, take it. Two rules. No slavery. No civil rights greatest-hits from before I was born. That file is closed for this conversation. Last fifty years only. America has rolled out more opportunity in the time I’ve been alive than any other stretch or country you want to name. School, work, capital, the whole runway. Drive and self-control still required. Nobody is hunting you down to drag you onto it. We can talk the ’80s crack wave. We can talk the ’90s crime bill. What we will not do is pretend the CIA made anybody light it or that Freeway Rick had no choice but to sell it. White neighborhoods got poisoned too. You did not have to sell the product. You did not have to torch the nuclear family. That part is on the people who did it. Then I told my own story so nobody could hide behind “you don’t know.” Thirty-four, clubs gone, bankrupt, parents’ couch, one pair of clothes, truck getting repo’d in the driveway. Six months of why me. Then I looked in the mirror and admitted the only constant in every disaster was me. Effort or the lack of it. That’s the standard I’m holding. Healthy adults who chose culture rot over faith and basic decency do not get to lecture me about phantom oppressors. Creston wanted to keep “systems.” I said save it. Time-is-racist Smithsonian talk does not get a seat. Majority-minority snake districts and the bigotry of low expectations do. If that sounds like extreme accountability, good. Zach wrote a song because he got tired of the same line: you ain’t from here, you didn’t grow up here, why don’t you just move to Madison. He played it on the air. “From Here.” It’s going on the album. 817 to the 769. White boy raising a family in the blackest city in America. Dirty cops, youth in detention, Uncle Ray’s, work in the cut since 2016. They’d love him if he had more melanin, wrote a check, kept quiet, and blamed the elephant every election. He says the glory goes to Christ and the city still ain’t showing him love. Last line hits: it’s obvious I ain’t from here — I’m heavenly. After the track we sat in it. I told him I’ve heard every one of those lines since Save Jackson started. Fondren and Belhaven living in a bubble and acting like I-20 is the city limits. Two wings on the bird: he’s still doing the work on the ground, I’m in the anger phase of the ministry. This is still a Jackson show even though I can drive around the city every day if I want to. Jackson used to own the restaurants and the nightlife. Now it has to compete. That’s not a knock. That’s the bill coming due.

No cameras and that crowd might have introduced him to the balcony. Not charged with hitting a cop. Yet. Still the weekend’s undisputed FAFO grand champion.
