Matthew Donahoe | Nova Scotia Teacher Facing Disturbing Charges
A Nova Scotia teacher is facing a disturbing series of criminal charges involving students at a Pictou County school. Matthew Donahoe, 53, was arrested in September 2026 and charged with 10 offences, including sexual assault, sexual interference, assault by choking, assault with a weapon, and administering a noxious substance. Court documents indicate the allegations involve four students and incidents said to have occurred during the first week of the school year. In this episode, Jordan and Madeleine examine the timeline of the investigation, what the court documents reveal, Donahoe’s release conditions, and questions surrounding his history as an educator. They also discuss accounts from former students who have since come forward publicly with their own experiences. The charges against Matthew Donahoe are allegations that have not been tested in court. He has not been convicted of these offences and is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Scot MacDermid and His Missing Kids (Edmonton, AB - 2026/08/28)
In August 2026, Edmonton father Scot MacDermid disappeared with his two children, George and Lesley, setting off a search that would stretch beyond Alberta and raise troubling questions about an already bitter family dispute. But the disappearance did not come out of nowhere. Years earlier, Scot and the children’s mother, Edilenia, had built a life between Canada and the Dominican Republic before their relationship eventually fractured amid allegations of domestic violence, protection orders, and an international custody battle. The Missing Men of Smiths Falls, Ontario
In the small eastern Ontario town of Smiths Falls, a series of missing men began to fuel widespread rumours, fear, and suspicion about what was happening beneath the surface of the community. For years, families waited for answers while police searched for evidence and residents traded theories about whether the cases were somehow connected. Then, just one month after a large reward was offered for information, the investigation took a dramatic turn. There would be arrests, murder charges, and the discovery of human remains on a remote rural property outside town. But that was only the beginning… As investigators continued searching the land, more bodies would be found, and attention would turn to the disturbing history of the property itself, raising new questions about how far back this story really goes, and how many secrets may still be buried there. Where are Lilly and Jack Sullivan - Part 18: Melahya Speaks
Six-year-old Lilly Sullivan and her four-year-old brother Jack Sullivan disappeared from their rural home in Lansdowne Station, Nova Scotia, on May 2, 2025, after their parents reported waking up and finding the children missing. Despite Nova Scotia’s largest ground search involving police, volunteers, dogs, drones, and helicopters, no trace of the children has been found. In this episode we hear from the children’s mother, Malehya Brooks-Murray, for the first time in fifteen months. Parker Wells, Darius MacDougall, and the fight to strengthen Canada's Emergency Alert System
Canada has an emergency alert system capable of reaching millions of people within seconds, but when a vulnerable person goes missing, whether that system can be used often depends on where they disappear. In this episode of The Canadian Gothic, we are joined by Jennifer Ball, founder of the Project Indigo movement, and Ronald DeGagne the advocate behind the Darius’ Law petition, to examine the gaps in Canada’s emergency alert system. Jennifer discusses how the disappearance of Parker Wells inspired her advocacy, while Ronald explains how the disappearance of six-year-old Darius MacDougall pushed him to call for change. Together, they discuss why AMBER Alerts do not cover many vulnerable missing-person cases, the patchwork of Silver and vulnerable-person alert policies across Canada, and what a standardized national system could look like.
