God's Covenant at Sinai: When and Where

[Season 5, Episode 2] The work of the The Biblical Chronologist flows out in many directions. On today's episode, we share an enriching and enjoyable application of this Bible/science research. Certain biblical events can be reconstructed in their historical context, causing the Bible come to life in new ways. We have a story to share with you today—the true story of Exodus 24:1-8, when God's covenant with Israel was ratified in the sight of all the people. Based on what is now known from archaeology and geography, because of modern biblical chronology, some aspects of the biblical narrative have been colored in, beyond the details provided in Exodus chapter 24. Listen in to the story of God's covenant with Israel at Sinai. Critique of BioLogos' Article on Biblical Lifespans

[Season 5, Episode 1] BioLogos recently published an article titled Why Did People in the Bible Live So Long? Of course, this got our attention. After reading it, here is our summary of the argument: The author begins by observing that the life span data contained in the early part of Genesis are quite surprising. (We agree at least on this one point.) Could this be real, factual information about how long people lived? The author does not think so, in light of all that is currently known about aging today. The best course of action, according to the author, is to examine other ancient genealogies to see how they might help us in understanding this information in Genesis. Various points are given about other ancient geneaologies (none nearly as complete or detailed as that contained in Genesis). The author (who states that he "holds the Bible in high esteem") concludes that these people in Genesis didn't actually live hundreds of years. This information is most likely purely rhetorical and was never meant to be taken literally. As you might imagine, we have a few things to say. It's astounding how some of the most precious data in the world is being thrown out, downplayed, glossed over, explained away, and even seen as embarrassing. Get ready for a lively discussion! Deep Into the Wilderness (Route of the Exodus)

[Season 4, Episode 12] We have been deep into the wilderness lately—figuratively speaking. In preparation for a detailed video series on the Route of the Exodus, we have been compiling all of Dr. Aardsma's work on this subject. For today's podcast, we pull out several points of interest, some being brand new information for our podcast audience. Each point is presented as a trivia question. What is Ezion Geber? In what two locations did a "water from the rock" miracle happen? Where did Israel spend most of 40 years in the wilderness? Upon which mountain did Aaron die? Upon which mountain did Moses die? The Joshua Narrative: Archaeology, History, and You

[Season 4, Episode 11] Instead of our typical back-and-forth discussion as the featured topic, this month we share a message given to a church congregation. Steve recently preached this message covering several aspects of the real-world history we find at both Jericho and Ai, when traditional biblical chronology is corrected. This was part of a sermon series in the book of Joshua. After the message was concluded, we decided it would be an excellent fit for The BC Messenger podcast audience as well. Given in his typical energetic and engaging style, this message demonstrates just how applicable and inspiring the historical, archaeological context is for these biblical accounts. Providing congregations with real-world information and data-rich apologetics equips them with the tools to strengthen their faith, answer challenges, and restore foundations that have been broken down. Make the Old Testament Great Again

In any evangelical church today, congregations are much more likely to hear a sermon based on the New Testament rather than the Old Testament. Perhaps the pastor will allude to or reference the Old Testament, but the primary text will most likely be from the New. Congregations do not demonstrate a general familiarity with notable Old Testament stories, such as young men calling out to Elijah "Go up thou bald head!" or Daniel's dream of a stone that grew into a mountain and filled the whole earth. Our Daily Bread, a classic, evangelical devotional publication, has produced a booklet: "Five Reasons to Love the Old Testament." That title alone indicates the dearth in this area within the Christian church today. It's an odd phenomenon, considering that the Old Testament is over three times the length of the New, containing plenteous thrilling accounts of God's power, setting the foundation for God's redemption plan for the world, teaching God's character through examples, demonstrating both His judgment and His mercy. While the Old Testament covers thousands of years of history, the New Testament spans only decades. This is not only an odd phenomenon, but it also presents a major problem for teaching the historicity of the Old Testament, as we strive to do on this podcast. People are unlikely to care about the historicity of something if they don't know the content of it in the first place, or why that content matters. Why and how did the major emphasis in churches shift to the New Testament? What problems arise as a result of this imbalance? How can this be corrected? Join us for this discussion. Is the Law of Moses Just a Copy of Older Law Codes?

[Season 4, Episode 9] A good way to undermine biblical authority and divine authorship is to demonstrate that the biblical writings seem to be mimicking earlier historical ideas and events. A well-known example is the historically revered Law of Moses. Because there are at least five ancient law codes that pre-date the traditional time of Moses, all bearing some similarities to the Mosaic Law, many people have claimed that the Law of Moses was copying earlier law codes. Yet, Christians have historically believed that when God gave the Law to Moses on Mt. Sinai, something new and special was happening. For example, Moses (holding the Ten Commandments) is the central figure on the east pediment of the United States Supreme Court building. He is flanked by other ancient law givers. Was the Mosaic Law borrowing from the law codes of other ancient peoples? Dr. Aardsma never set out to research this topic specifically. However, the discovery of the missing millenium settles this question, as it does many, many others. Truth is like that; the ripple effects of enlightenment seem to never end. Knowing when Moses actually lived (1,000 years earlier than traditionally thought) clearly demonstrates that when God gave Moses the Law on Mt. Sinai, something special and unique was indeed happening. Moses lived during the Exodus of 2450 BC. We have no record of ancient law codes that predate this time. Nothing Fails Like Bible History?? Challenging YouTuber "Holy Koolaid"

[Season 4, Episode 8] For over three and a half years, we've been instructing you about biblical historicity and chronology, from many angles. Today we want to show you just how effective all this knowledge is in the "real world." The YouTube channel "Holy Koolaid" gleefully wreaks havoc with problematic issues facing Old Testament historicity. It was created by Thomas Westbrook (missionary kid turned evangelistic scoffer) whose channel boasts 391K subscribers. His popular series "Nothing Fails Like Bible History" sets out to skillfully and swiftly debunk the faith of as many Christians as possible. On this episode, we set out to correct the claims put forth by Thomas Westbrook, demonstrating how quickly his house of cards tumbles once a few basic corrections are made and a few key things are properly understood. What a marvelous application of the data-rich apologetic that we present. It works: real science, real Bible, real history, real world. We address several of Westbrook's videos from his series "Nothing Fails Like Bible History." Travel along with us and put your own knowledge to use as we think through how to answer some of the accusations of Holy Koolaid against the Bible and Bible-believers. The truth is, in the end, nothing SUCCEEDS like Bible history. Corruption in Modern Science (Why We Are Independent)

[Season 4, Episode 7] For new ideas to move forward, a society must have free speech. In addition, societies today have systems for new ideas (scientific research) to be presented and evaluated. But what happens when those well-established systems become corrupted—when they actually stand in the way of truth and advancement? This is now happening in our country's academic institutions, and many are completely unaware. "Publish or perish" and peer review have become roadblocks to truth and progress. Some scientists have seen their lives and reputations destroyed through the corrupted system. Others learn to jump through the hoops and work the system to accomplish their personal career goals. Yet others decide to leave the mainstream altogether in order to avoid a career spent trying to satisfy the system. Being outside the mainstream (and therefore self-published) has its own set of problems, but it does allow meaningful research to take place and the unadulterated, undiluted results to be published, albeit to a limited audience. And that is exactly where we find ourselves here at The Biblical Chronologist. Listen in to learn about the major "establishment" problems facing scientists today, how the winds of change are beginning to blow, and why The Biblical Chronologist has a 31-year-history of doing research and publication independently. "Noah's Flood Revisited" by Hugh Ross - Why it Fails

Last year, Hugh Ross (Reasons to Believe) replied to a comment we left on X (formerly Twitter). Our comment asked if he had seen some aspects of Dr. Aardsma's work. Ross replied, "I have just completed a book on Noah's Flood and have responded to Aardsma's claims." The book Ross referenced became available in October. This month we critique Noah's Flood Revisited (new depths of insight from science and Scripture). We discuss several aspects of this new book by an old-earth creationist, pointing out where it falls critically short—false fronts, fuzzy facts, failing to follow through, and an ultimate fatal flaw. This is important because, as Christians, we must be actively advancing the cause of truth, not just giving some reasons to hold to our faith. We must stop treading water in Christian apologetics, and begin to take ground with data, scientific investigation, research results, and specific dates that show these events in real-world history. Who Were the People Who Perished in Noah's Flood?

The proper date for Noah's Flood, based on extensive evidence, is 3520 B.C. With this anchor point established, we can then begin to investigate questions surrounding the Flood, and we can get real, concrete, fascinating answers from various branches of science, including archaeology. Today, we delve into one such question. Who were the people who perished in Noah's Flood? In Matthew 24, Jesus says: "For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away, so will the coming of the Son of Man be." Another version says "until the flood came and swept them all away." Who were these people groups, these civilizations who were swept away in Noah's Flood? What can we know about them? We investigate the lives and cultures of specific ancient people groups in south Mesopotamia, in Palestine, in Greece, in Ireland, and North America. Evidence strongly supports the hypothesis that all of these civilizations perished in the Flood, at the date of circa 3520 B.C., causing a major well-known cultural break across continents in the centuries following Noah's Flood. "Historians see circa. 3300-3000 B.C. as one of the most dramatic turning points in human pre-history. Multiple major civilizations across the world underwent sudden cultural breaks—urbanization, writing, political unification, collapse of older cultures, migration waves, and technological milestones." -Chat GPT Nowhere else will you hear this specific, detailed information. Other Bible-believing groups have not been able to pin a functional date on Noah's Flood, and this stops them from knowing much of anything about the Flood, outside of what the Bible says. We are blessed to be able to tie secular history together with biblical history with the strong foundation of proper chronology. This sound reasoning goes far beyond guesswork or speculation, giving us great confidence in the biblical text. Two New Vitamins Walked Into the FDA...

[Season 4, Episode 4] After his initial discovery of the anti-aging vitamins, Dr. Aardsma made contact with the United States FDA, attempting to follow the applicable guidelines before bringing his new product to market in 2017. The interactions between Dr. Aardsma and the FDA at that time ended up being frustrating and unproductive. "Two new vitamins" appear to be uncharted territory for the FDA. After five years of subsequent silence, the FDA contacted Dr. Aardsma this past summer. (Why now, after five years of silence? We have some ideas.) Learn what the FDA communicated to us this summer, where things stand now, and what the future might hold, on today's podcast episode. We find ourselves blazing a trail of sorts with the discovery of these two new vitamins, rooted in Bible/science research. There is no manual or web search that can give us instructions on how to move this new discovery forward into the hands of the proper authorities. Last month's episode reminds us of the inherent difficulties faced by previous vitamin discoveries, by which we can see that we are in good company at least, and thereby we are encouraged that eventually the truth will prevail. Life, Death, and the Vitamin Quest

[Season 4, Episode 3] Imagine a time when people were getting sick and dying, sometimes large groups of people at the same time, and living in the same area. Although symptoms were similar in each case, the mysterious illnesses defied conventional cures. Nobody could pinpoint the problem. Maybe it was something in the environment, or an unknown virus or bacteria. Doctors tried various remedies, some typical, some bizarre. Still, the victims suffered in misery, or even died a horrific death. Imagine the astonishment when people began to discover that something as simple as lemons or cod liver oil in the diet seemed to cure these horrible diseases. Why a lemon? Why cod liver oil? Why were specific foods needed to fix the problem? Welcome to the world of vitamin discovery, where mysterious illnesses were eventually cured by groundbreaking scientific advancements. Just a few hundred years ago, nobody foresaw that tiny amounts of specific chemical substances could transform human health. Nobody knew that without specific invisible molecules (much to small to be seen with the unaided human eye) the body would get sick and die. Missing molecules were, in fact, the cause of unimaginable suffering. Scientists began to reach a new level of understanding of the relationship between diet and nutrition. Once these substances which we now call vitamins started to become known, the path to acceptance and scientific consensus remained challenging. People often clung to mistaken beliefs. Fast forward a hundred years, and the era of vitamin discovery is far from over. The field of Bible/science research now intersects with the field of vitamin discovery. And the path forward for these newly discovered vital molecules (the anti-aging vitamins) has proven, so far, to be just as difficult. This new discovery has been greeted with suspicion, subjected to ridicule, and in general met with resistance. People still cling to mistaken beliefs. Here at Aardsma Research and Publishing we have been talking about two newly discovered vitamins since 2017. The stories shared on today's episode help set the stage for next month's podcast, when we plan to share some stories of our own. This summer re-established some communications with the United States FDA, which we also plan to share on November's episode. Join us as we traverse the arduous path of vitamin discovery, one which is lined with remarkable stories and the quest for answers to life-and-death questions. Otzi the Iceman

[Season 4, Episode 2] On today's episode we discuss an unusual piece of history which relates to Bible/science research; an amazing story of discovery with numerous intriguing applications. In 1991, the body of "Otzi the Iceman" was discovered in the high Alps where he lived and died over 5,000 years ago. This rare and remarkable find provides unusual insight into ancient times. Knowing the date of Otzi's death allows us to place him on the timeline, and we find that Otzi and ancient Bible history complement each other rather nicely. Many points about Otzi are brought forward by the work of The Biblical Chronologist, in an article Dr. Aardsma published back in 2002. Unfazed: 6 Unique Ideas to Equip Christian Students Heading to University

[Season 4, Episode 1] Over 2.5 million students will begin college as first-time freshmen in the coming weeks, and roughly 50% of them will be from some kind of Christian background. Entering a college environment (whether private or secular) can be challenging for Christian young people, as new ideas are presented from all directions. Sooner or later they will face some major ideas that seem to oppose their Bible-believing foundation. Is it possible to face secular scientific ideas and remain unfazed as a Christian student? The following unique ideas from the field of Bible/science research will equip a Christian young person to successfully navigate the university experience. Good ideas and real answers will enable a Christian young person not only to survive, but also to thrive at the university level! Our discussion travels through the following points. Three Foundational Principles: Hold a high view of both science and Scripture. Both belong to God, both are used to shape our understanding of truth, and both are vital to a proper understanding of the world we are in. Don't fear data. It may challenge your assumptions, and that is okay. Realize that God uses measurements, facts, and information to help shape our understanding of reality. Data is a God-given pathway to arrive at the truth. Chronology is key. Always ask, when did this particular event happen? We cannot understand the past in any meaningful way without placing events correctly on the timeline. Science reveals things about the past. So does Scripture. Both must be understood in a chronological context. Three Big Ideas: Missing Millenium. Yes, the Bible's history does harmonize with secular history. Virtual History. Yes, the earth's history shows millions of years, but this is not a serious challenge to the biblical account of Creation happening less than 10,000 years ago. Noahic Events. Yes, climate change is real, but the cause is misunderstood. Bible/science research shows the reality of the situation. PODCAST WEBSITE: The BC Messenger has a podcast website! Understanding the Pillar of Fire

[Season 3, Episode 12] God led the children of Israel through the wilderness by a "pillar of fire" during the night. (Exodus 13:21) Was this a miraculous pillar of actual fire floating in the air, involving smoke and heat? Or was it something else that could actually be explained by science? As with the pillar of cloud, we find that modern science sheds light on what was happening within the environment to create this observable phenomenon at night within the unique environment of the Israelite encampments. Today we call this phenomenon "chemiluminescence." As a result of this new scientific understanding, we can even see what color the pillar of fire would have been. God's works in history are beyond amazing, and once again, we see that they are more real than we ever imagined. Solving One of Einstein's Greatest Mysteries (Einstein's Biggest Mistake)

[Season 3, Episode 10] Albert Einstein contributed numerous breakthrough contributions to science. His discoveries, which include both special and general relativity, the photoelectric effect, the mass-energy equivalence formula, and a mathematical explanation for Brownian motion, ushered in the era of modern physics. One of the great unsolved mysteries left behind by Einstein was the origin of earth's magnetic field. "Albert Einstein worked diligently, but unsuccessfully, to understand the origin of Earth’s magnetic field, which he considered to be one of the five most important unsolved problems in physics." Although Einstein was a deist, he cast aside the Bible's recorded history early in life. However, the Bible's ancient record holds the data which ultimately leads to the solving of this great mystery of geophysics (and several others). Noah's Ark on Ararat?

[Season 3, Episode 9] Does the Bible say that Noah's ark landed on Mt. Ararat? In fact, the Bible does not identify Mt. Ararat as the place the ark came to rest. Instead, it identifies "the mountains of Ararat" in Genesis 8:4. The mountains of Ararat in eastern Turkey include many mountain peaks. The biblical text gives some clues to help determine where the ark came to rest. We discuss these clues, and show how science can be used to help pinpoint one particular mountain as the most likely resting place for Noah, his family, and the animals inside the ark. Our discussion flows out of an article Dr. Aardsma published in 1997, which narrowed down step by step which mountain is likely to be the place where the ark actually landed, and explained why this question is of importance to biblical chronology (and much of the Bible/science research that has happened since that time). "You Can't Get Data from Myths" - Applying the Scientific Method to the Bible

[Season 3, Episode 8] "If you wanna have faith have faith, but don't tell me you have 'data.'" These and other related statements have recently been made by people interacting with our podcast content. This month we delve into the following questions: How is it possible to start with the Bible as "data"? Can the scientific method be applied to the Bible? What do we mean by the Bible/science method of research and discovery? Aging: The way it was, the way it is, and where things stand.

[Season 3, Episode 7] We introduce this month's topic by discussing a recent video we saw of Dick Van Dyke, who has recently turned 99 years old. This sweet but heart-wrenching video shows clips of Van Dyke as a young entertainer, placed in quick succession beside clips of him as a 99-year-old. Time is a thief when it comes to aging. After a quick review of what we can learn from the biblical data on aging, we turn our attention to a full update on the aging research happening here at The Biblical Chronologist. Where do things stand with the current theory of aging, current recommendations, communications efforts, and what does this all mean for our listeners? Included in the discussion is an explanation of the recent NR recommendation by Dr. Aardsma. Also on this episode: As a Matter of Fact: Genetic Bottleneck?
