We all know that there can be fear and pressure felt around the Irish language, and Mollie is full of practical advice - we discuss the games that can be played in Irish, the opportunities for exploring Irish history and folklore, and relating the language to the students' lives. Starting Strong: Supporting Autism and Mainstream Classrooms in a New School Year, with Angela Cummins
This week, Jane and Hugh are joined by Angela Cummins, who has been teaching in autism classes for 27 years. Angela has a Masters in Education specialising in Autism, and is currently working on her Doctorate of Education. At the start of a new school year, there is so much to discuss. We look at how teachers in both mainstream and autism classes can set up their classrooms for their incoming students, and how they can best set expectations and routines. We also look at how teachers from all classes can support each other, and develop a better understanding of what goes on in each other's rooms. Angela gives practical tips on supporting a sense of community between all students and staff in the school, as well as how all subjects can be integrated into fun and playful activities.
