So I researched it

raised_on_diy

Welcome! I’m Evelyn — and if there’s one thing about me, it’s that when I get curious about something, I need to know EVERYTHING about it.

This channel is where I share what I learn.

From diseases and health topics to gardening, DIY, sobriety, home projects, true crime, everyday life, and the random rabbit holes I inevitably fall into — I do the research, sort through the information, and bring it back here in a way that’s interesting and easy to understand. I'm not an expert in anything, I'm a curious person who loves learning, asking questions and educating others.

Episode 3: Sleep Deprivation - What happens to your brain and body over time

What happens when you don’t get enough sleep—and what changes when it keeps happening? In episode 3 of So I Researched It, I’m looking at sleep deprivation and its effects on the brain and body over time. We’ll talk about why one bad night can make it harder to think clearly, manage emotions, and get through the day, and why regularly missing sleep can have wider effects on your health. If you’ve ever wondered whether you can really “catch up” on sleep, or why being tired feels like so much more than just being sleepy, this episode is for you. What’s the first thing you notice when you haven’t slept enough? Let me know in the comments. Subscribe for more episodes of So I Researched It, where I take a question, do the research, and share what I find.

Episode 2: Radiation Therapy - Why it's not AS scary anymore

Radiation therapy has a scary reputation—but how much of that fear comes from what radiation treatment used to be rather than what it looks like today? We’ll start with the basics: what radiation is, why it’s used to treat cancer, and what actually happens when that beam reaches a tumor. Then we’ll get into the science of how radiation damages cancer-cell DNA, why cancer cells have a harder time recovering from that damage than healthy cells, and how modern radiation oncology has become dramatically more precise. We’ll also look at the history of radiation therapy and how treatment has evolved—from the early days of radiation to today’s highly targeted technology designed to deliver radiation to the tumor while limiting exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. But if radiation is so much more precise now, why do patients still experience side effects? We’ll talk about that too—including why side effects happen, why they can vary so much depending on where someone is being treated, and some practical ways patients may manage common side effects. (This portion is for general education only and is not a substitute for medical advice from your healthcare team.) Finally, we’ll look at where radiation therapy is headed next and some of the technology making cancer treatment increasingly targeted and individualized. If you’ve ever heard the word “radiation” and immediately pictured something terrifying, this episode is for you. I did the research so you don’t have to. Let’s talk about what radiation therapy actually is—and why the radiation treatment of today may be very different from what you imagine.
