He Turned Pain Into Purpose! Robert Courtney Collins Talks CreatorCon, Loss & Legacy

What happens when life forces you to start over, but your purpose refuses to let you quit? 🔥 On this episode of Shad Vs. Everybody, Shad sits down with entrepreneur, marketing visionary, and CreatorCon founder Robert Courtney Collins for a powerful conversation about creativity, entrepreneurship, personal loss, and building something bigger than yourself. Robert takes us back to the beginning of CreatorCon, explaining how an idea to connect creative minds evolved into one of the Midwest's most exciting conferences for content creators, entrepreneurs, influencers, and business professionals. But this conversation goes much deeper than business. Robert opens up about the heartbreaking loss of his wife, finding the strength to move forward, and continuing to build a legacy while navigating life's most difficult moments. The conversation also tackles a question that deserves more attention: WHAT EXACTLY IS A CREATOR? 🤔 Is it someone with thousands of followers? A podcaster? A filmmaker? An entrepreneur? Or is creativity something much bigger than social media? Robert breaks down the importance of recognizing your creative value, building meaningful relationships, understanding the creator economy, and turning your ideas into real opportunities. And with CreatorCon returning to Detroit November 13–15, 2026, the timing couldn't be better! From overcoming adversity to empowering Detroit's next generation of innovators, this episode is a reminder that sometimes the most powerful things we create aren't products, businesses, or content — they're opportunities, connections, and legacies. 🎙️ IN THIS EPISODE: The inspiration behind CreatorCon and how it all started Robert's personal journey through grief and rebuilding after losing his wife Why EVERYBODY needs to understand what being a creator really means The business of creativity, branding, and entrepreneurship Why Detroit deserves a seat at the table in the creator economy What attendees can expect from CreatorCon 2026 Building relationships, creating opportunities, and leaving a legacy 🔥 CREATORCON 2026 — DETROIT, MICHIGAN Learn more about CreatorCon, upcoming events, speakers, and registration: 🌐 https://creatorcondetroit.com/ 💯 Whether you're a podcaster, filmmaker, business owner, content creator, or somebody with a dream and a plan, this conversation is for YOU! 👇 JOIN THE CONVERSATION: Do you consider yourself a creator? DeShawn Sims: From Detroit Pershing to Michigan, Pro Basketball & Back Home | Shad Vs Everybody

🏀 FROM PERSHING TO MICHIGAN… AROUND THE WORLD… AND BACK HOME! | DESHAWN SIMS | SHAD VS EVERYBODY This week on Shad Vs Everybody, we sit down with Detroit basketball royalty — DeShawn Sims — for a conversation that goes WAY beyond the hardwood. Before he was wearing Maize & Blue, Sims was putting in work at Detroit Pershing High School, where he became one of the city's premier players, earning AP Class A Player of the Year and Parade All-American honors before taking his talents to the University of Michigan. At Michigan, Sims became a force in the Big Ten, finishing his Wolverine career with 1,584 points and 728 rebounds, earning multiple All-Big Ten honors and helping Michigan return to the NCAA Tournament. But basketball was only getting started. After Michigan, DeShawn's journey took him through the Boston Celtics organization, the NBA Development League — where he became the 2011 Rookie of the Year — and professional leagues around the globe, including stops in Greece, South Korea, Puerto Rico, Israel, Lebanon and Italy. And now the story has come FULL CIRCLE. DeShawn is back where it started — Detroit Pershing High School — serving as a Dean of Students and leading the basketball program as head coach, pouring years of basketball knowledge and life experience into another generation of Detroit kids. Pershing currently lists Sims among its Deans of Students, and he returned to his alma mater to coach the Doughboys in 2024. 🎙️ Shad and DeShawn talk about: 🔥 Growing up in Detroit and becoming a Pershing basketball standout 🏀 His journey from Pershing to the University of Michigan 〽️ Playing Big Ten basketball and becoming an All-Big Ten performer ☘️ His experience with the Boston Celtics organization 🌍 What professional basketball overseas is REALLY like 🏆 Becoming NBA D-League Rookie of the Year 🧠 The lessons basketball taught him beyond the court 🏫 Returning home to Pershing as a Dean and head basketball coach 💯 Why giving the next generation the game matters This isn't just a basketball conversation. It's about leaving home, seeing the world, gaining the knowledge… and bringing it back to the same neighborhood that helped create you. Detroit made him. Basketball took him around the world. Now DeShawn Sims is back home helping build what's next. ▶️ Tap in with another episode of SHAD VS EVERYBODY! NO GUEST, JUST CHAOS 😂 | Old School Parenting, Classic Movies & E-Block Debates

🔥 NO GUEST. NO PLAN. JUST PURE CHAOS. | SHAD VS EVERYBODY PODCAST 🔥 Sometimes you don’t need a special guest… you just need the right people in the room and enough microphones to get everybody in trouble. 😂 On this episode of Shad Vs Everybody, Shad is joined by producer Q. Lewis, with some of the E-Block family — 2 G’s and Killa K — jumping into the conversation from off camera. And once everybody gets comfortable, the conversation goes EVERYWHERE. 🎬 Classic movies that still hit different. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Old-school parenting vs. new-school parenting. 😂 The stuff our parents could get away with that would probably get somebody investigated TODAY. 📺 Growing up in a completely different era of entertainment, family and culture. 🗣️ And plenty of random debates, wild opinions and hilarious stories that nobody planned on talking about. This is one of those episodes that feels less like an interview and more like sitting around with your people when one conversation turns into ten. From debating the movies that defined our generation to asking whether today’s parents are too soft, more emotionally aware… or just trying not to traumatize their kids the way WE got traumatized 😂 — Shad, Q., 2 G’s and Killa K bring different perspectives to the table. No celebrity guest. No prepared interview questions. No safe topics. Just real conversation, Detroit humor, generational debates and E-Block energy. 👇 JOIN THE CONVERSATION: What classic movie can you watch over and over again? And when it comes to raising kids, who had it right — old-school parents or the new generation?
