Self(ish) Confidence

Jess Clerke

Self(ish) Confidence is your reminder that you don’t need to become someone else to create a life you love.

Hosted by Self-Discovery and Empowerment Mentor, Jess Clerke, this is the podcast for women who are ready to stop second-guessing themselves, let go of the “shoulds,” and start living life on their own terms.

We’re talking confidence, self-trust, identity, boundaries, relationships, motherhood, ambition, personal growth, and all the messy in-between moments that come with becoming more YOU.

Because confidence isn’t about having it all figured out. It’s about knowing yourself well enough to trust your choices, even when they don’t make sense to everyone else.

Each week, Jess brings honest conversations, real-life stories, mindset shifts, and practical tools to help you question what you’ve been told you should want and get radically honest about what you actually want instead.

You don’t need more permission. You need more trust in yourself.

Welcome to Self(ish) Confidence. A place to trust yourself, own your truth, and live life on your terms.

[305] [INTERVIEW] Painting Pictures with Sound: Confidence, Storytelling & Being Seen w/Melody Rose

A lot of people want to “use their voice” until the moment their voice can be judged. Today, I sit down with Halifax radio host and storyteller Melody Rose to talk about what confidence really looks like when you’re vulnerable, thin-skinned, and still committed to saying the honest thing on a microphone. Along the way, Melody shares the behind-the-scenes reality of public feedback, why openness can be a strength, and how storytelling creates the kind of community where someone hears your truth and thinks, “Oh my god, me too.” We get into the career path that brought Melody from teaching into media, and the realization that it was never about being a performer, it was always about telling stories and painting pictures with sound. Then we talk about how life changes your confidence, including the sleep deprivation years, the shift into a better schedule, and how perimenopause can collide with everything from mood to energy to identity. If you’ve been navigating women’s health, burnout, or the pressure to keep everyone else comfortable, you’ll feel seen. [304] Get in the Room (Your Confidence Will Catch Up)

Some weekends don’t just feel fun, they snap you back into yourself. After the Fredericton Women Show and the She Leads women’s panel, I walked away with that buzzing reminder that confidence grows faster when you’re surrounded by women who actually want you to win. I’m sharing behind-the-scenes from the quick road trip, the magic of meeting “internet friends” in real life, and the contrast between glitter-goggles energy and the very real reality of coming home to mom life. We also get into why watching women entrepreneurs share their products and stories is so motivating: it turns the half-formed ideas in your Notes app into a simple question you can’t ignore anymore. Are you going to bring it to life? We talk about building community on purpose, including why I created the Selfish Sisterhood as a community in your pocket, plus the Moms Club and our accountability group. If you’ve been craving encouragement, connection, and that “OMG that’s so cool” kind of support, this is your sign to stop waiting for motivation and start finding your room. Then we go deeper: the versions of ourselves people never see, my Barbados chapter, and what it means to thank the past you who started before she was ready. If you need a nudge to do the thing even when it doesn’t make sense, press play, then subscribe, share with a friend, and leave a review so more women can find this kind of confidence. [303] Become Unfuckwithable

You know that moment when someone shares an opinion and your stomach drops because you can feel the judgment coming? I wanted to talk about the skill that changes everything: becoming unfuckwithable, not in a rude way, but in an unshakable way where you stay rooted in who you are even when people disagree. If you’ve been dimming your personality, filtering your thoughts, or trying to be “easy” for everyone else, this is your reminder that confidence is allowed to take up space. We start with why it can feel safer to blend in, especially on social media where comments can be brutal, and why people pleasing keeps so many of us stuck. Then I share a simple real-life story from a coffee shop that turned into a bigger lesson about parenting choices, comparison, and trusting your own values. When you know your foundation, you don’t need to defend every decision or spiral after a sideways look. From there, we get practical: how to identify your values, how to notice the “question marks” where you’re still borrowing beliefs from family or culture, and how to practice saying what you mean with safe people first. This is personal growth, self confidence, and authenticity work all rolled into one, and it helps you build a stronger mindset, clearer boundaries, and a personal brand that actually feels like you. If you want extra support, I’m also offering a free week of my program Confidently You. [302] Overstimulated & Under-Joyed

Your brain isn’t broken, it’s overloaded. I’m sitting down with a cup of tea and naming the thing so many of us feel but rarely say out loud: life is loud, busy, and weirdly serious, and we’ll do almost anything to avoid an empty moment. If you’ve ever found yourself “productively” organizing junk, scrolling Threads a little too long, or filling every pause with content, you’re in good company. I talk about why constant distraction feels so tempting in 2026, how information overload can keep our nervous system stuck on high alert, and why quiet can feel uncomfortable at first. We practice a simple reset I love called a “nothing pocket” a short, timed window where you do nothing on purpose so your mind can breathe again. From there, we shift into the real mission: joy. What’s actually fun for you right now? When did we stop playing, and why did adulthood become a loop of work, chores, and screens? We get practical with ideas to bring play back without overhauling your whole life: revisiting what you loved as a kid, scheduling it like it matters, trying an “artist date” style weekly adventure, checking local events, going to things alone, following tiny creative urges like doodling, and even shaking out energy with a five-minute dance break while dinner cooks. The goal is simple: more play, more core memories, less autopilot. If this lights something up, share it with a friend who needs more fun, tag me so I can thank you, and please leave a five-star review on Spotify or Apple to help this community grow. [301] Mother Yourself First (and this is not just for Moms)

You can be wildly capable and still be running on 0%. That’s the tension we’re naming today: how so many of us show up for work, partners, kids, friends, and family without hesitation, while our own needs get whatever crumbs are left. When life feels like chaos, change, and constant responsibility, self-care doesn’t just slip, it disappears, and we start calling it “normal.” I’m sharing a grounding reframe that’s been hitting me hard lately: mothering yourself. Not a parenting talk, not a perfect-routine fantasy. It’s a way to ask, “If I were my own mom, what would I do for me right now?” Would I tell myself to go to bed instead of watching one more show? Would I actually eat something nourishing instead of pushing through on fumes? Would I problem-solve my stress, digestion, and sleep the same way I’d do for someone I love? We’ll get real about the mental load, the full-plate feeling, and why stopping can be the moment your body finally gets a chance to send warning signs. Subscribe, share this with a friend who’s depleted, and leave a review so more women can find the reminder they deserve. [300] From 0 to 300: How One Scary Choice Changed Everything

Ever feel the air shift and know something is about to change? That’s where we are as we hit our 300th episode—a milestone built on messy first takes, wobbly courage, and a relentless promise to show up even when it’s scary. I trace the arc from a whisper in 2021 to a life I couldn’t have sketched back then: leaving a first business, closing a dream editor role, stepping onto stages, hosting retreats, and choosing motherhood after once saying “never.” The common thread isn’t polish. It’s motion. We dive into the power of honouring past versions of ourselves—the ones who said the awkward thing, recorded in closets, and tried ideas that didn’t land. I talk about learning styles through the lens of Human Design, why my 3/5 “trial and error” path looks like throwing spaghetti and then teaching what stuck, and how your path might prefer research and plans. Either way, traction beats theory. Expect failures and let them sort you toward what actually fits. Four years from now, you’ll thank the you who took one brave step today. This conversation is also a love note to community. Not everyone has a ride-or-die cheerleader at home, so I built spaces where belief is contagious and momentum multiplies. From tiny actions like borrowing a library mic or texting a potential collaborator, to big leaps like launching a retreat, the magic shows up when you do. If fear is loud, bring it with you. If you’re cringing, you’re growing. Hit play for a candid, practical push to stop waiting for perfect timing and start shaping the life you want, one small, honest action at a time. [299] From Flu Prep To Life Prep: Building A Space, A System, And A Sisterhood

When life gets loud, confidence needs a home. We start with a chair, a candle, and a cup of tea—and end with a blueprint for handling chaos with more ease. After a week that knocked our whole household down with the flu, I share how a simple room refresh turned into a creative reawakening and why building a space that feels like you can change how you show up, even on the hard days. If you’ve been craving calm, the nervous system toolkit here is for you. We talk grounding in nature, sensory anchors like a signature candle or essential oil, a “sleepy song” that cues relaxation, and tactile objects that steady your breath. These rituals are rehearsed on neutral days so they’re ready when things wobble. We also practice flexibility on purpose—swapping dinner plans, shifting workouts—to teach our bodies that change isn’t danger. Add in real-world readiness with an updated first-aid kit and go-bag, and you’ve got compassionate preparedness without fear. Community is the final pillar. I relaunched the Selfish Sisterhood with connection first, plus an optional Moms Club thread for parents who need a village in their pocket and local meetups for those near Halifax. Whether you’re a new mom, a creative craving momentum, or simply tired of the noise online, you’ll find tools and people here to help you steady your week and protect your spark. Join the Self(ish) Sisterhood at the Founding Sisters Rate: $22/month or $222/year. If this resonates, subscribe, share with a friend who needs steadier days, and leave a review so more women can find their people and their calm.
