Welcome! I have a knack for explaining stuff and I want to share some knowledge with you.

I received a BA in chemistry from Carleton College, and performed graduate studies in both synthetic organic chemistry and science education at Cal State Northridge, receiving an MA in the latter. Prior to this I taught for about a decade in various high school and undergraduate settings, specializing in organic chemistry but also teaching general chemistry, physics, and biology.

This channel is for students at the high school and undergraduate level, but it is also for members of the general public who just want to know more about the world and how things work. My goal is to increase science literacy in our society, so please share these tutorials with anyone that you think might enjoy them. Happy learning!

    James Monroe: Last Cocked Hat (1817 - 1825)

    You've heard of the Monroe doctrine, perhaps? This is the guy! Well, John Quincy Adams wrote it... but everyone liked this guy. They liked him so much that his entire presidency was called "The Era of Good Feelings". His story starts all the way back during the Revolutionary War, where he fought alongside George Washington, so let's learn a little bit about this guy, who was the last of the founding fathers to be president.     The Early Middle Ages: Charlemagne and His Successors

    Let's kick off our study of the Middle Ages by looking at Western Europe. The Roman Empire had splintered into two halves. In the east there was the Byzantine Empire, but the west had split up into separate kingdoms rules by various Germanic tribes. Over time this morphed into the Holy Roman Empire, based in modern day Germany. Charlemagne was the first ruler of this empire, so let's learn about him and other associated figures.
