He swam away from cancer | Dean Hall | Niklas Gustafson
Can falling back in love with life change how your body heals? Dean Hall has worked as a licensed therapist for over 30 years. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 2007 and then lymphoma in 2012. Everyone told him to "fight cancer," but he says it wasn't a fair fight, and he was losing. So he made a radical choice: he stopped fighting cancer and started loving life. That choice took him into cold, wild water. In 2014, with active leukemia and lymphoma, he became the first person to swim the full 187 miles of Oregon's Willamette River. Later he swam Ireland's River Shannon too. When he finally went back for the blood work he'd been putting off, his doctor said he couldn't find any sign of the leukemia. We get into why Dean traded fear for joy, what cold moving water, sunlight and nature did for him, what he learned about purpose and resilience, and the story he tells in his book, The Wild Cure.
