Before the Mountains Were Brought Forth
“Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.” — Psalm 90:2 I interviewed my brother, Joey Wickham, to hear the story of his climb of Mera Peak in Nepal—and the more I listened, the more I realized this story was about so much more than climbing a mountain. It’s amazing what our bodies can endure when our minds are set on something beyond ourselves. Joey’s story is filled with moments that would have made me turn around: headaches that lasted for days, nausea, extreme fatigue, and the relentless effects of altitude. There were moments when even he had to rethink the goal he had set out to accomplish. And that raises a question: What happens when we turn around? Sometimes turning back is wisdom. Sometimes it is necessary. But sometimes, giving up leaves us wondering what might have happened if we had just kept going. Would there be regret? Would we always wonder what was waiting for us at the top? There are few things in this world that can compare to the feeling of standing above the clouds, looking out from the top of the world. But even that beauty will pale in comparison to the beauty of a new and perfect heaven and earth. (Revelation 21: 1-8) Joey’s story is about a group of guys taking on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to climb one of the world’s great mountains. But underneath that adventure are lessons about the trials along the way, the moments of doubt that threaten to derail us, and the pride that can sometimes be hidden inside us. Ultimately, this story is about recognizing that we are but men. The mountain doesn’t care how strong you think you are. Your body has limits. Your mind has limits. And altitude has a way of reminding you of both. As Joey put it: “You can be the fittest person in the world and the altitude can still take you out!” And maybe that’s part of what makes a mountain such a powerful reminder of who God is. The mountains exist because He made them. He was there before them. They were there before us. Both will pass away. God will remain. From everlasting to everlasting, He is God. What If Faithfulness Is the Victory?
What happens when you step out in faith, do the work, fight the fight—and the outcome isn’t what you hoped for? That’s where I started my conversation with Dusty Blue. After a hard-fought campaign for Missouri State Senate District 18, I wanted to hear how Dusty was doing on the other side of Election Day. We talked about some of the highs and lows of the campaign, what he learned along the way, what surprised him, and what he believes the road ahead looks like. But our conversation quickly became about something much bigger than an election. Because if we believe God is sovereign, then our responsibility isn’t to control the outcome. Our responsibility is to be faithful to what He has called us to do. And that led us into one of the questions I think Christians need to wrestle with: What is the Church’s role in the civic arena? Why are so many Christians hesitant—or apathetic—when it comes to engaging the culture around them? What happens when the Church retreats from the public square? And what would it look like for the Church to stop simply reacting to culture and start intentionally shaping it? We talked about the difference between filling a state with church buildings and filling a state with The Church—people who understand that their faith isn’t confined to Sunday morning, but reaches into their families, communities, schools, workplaces, government, and every part of culture. The election may be over. But the work isn’t. And maybe the question isn’t simply, “Who won?” Maybe the better question is: Were we faithful? Because duty is ours. Results are God’s. The Truth Doesn’t Need A Villain
Missouri voters went to the polls in August under one congressional map. Now, just weeks later, they’ve been told that map will not be the map used for the November general election. It’s confusing. It’s frustrating. And it’s tempting to immediately ask: Who is to blame? But what if the answer isn’t as simple as we want it to be? In this episode, I sit down with Act for Missouri to talk through the mess surrounding Missouri’s congressional redistricting and the difficult position voters now find themselves in. The Missouri Supreme Court has ruled that the 2025 congressional map will not be used for the November 2026 election and that the 2022 map remains in effect. But beyond the legal details is a bigger question: Are we actually interested in the truth—even when the truth doesn’t give us a convenient person to blame? We have become increasingly quick to pick a side, defend our people, attack the other side and decide who is “right” before we’ve even worked through the facts. And I think that says something about us. It seems that in crisis after crisis, too many people care more about being right than doing what is right. Could this situation have been avoided? There are certainly lessons to be learned, and there may be changes that need to be made. But acknowledging that something could have been handled differently is not the same thing as proving that someone acted outside the law. Sometimes the facts are complicated. Sometimes multiple things can be true at the same time. And sometimes the answer isn’t finding the perfect villain—it’s fixing the system that allowed the problem to happen. That’s where I believe we need to go from here. Rather than spending all our energy pointing fingers, we the people need to demand better laws and better processes so Missouri voters aren’t put in this position again. Because this isn’t ultimately about protecting one political side or proving another side wrong. It’s about whether we care enough about truth, law and good government to fix what isn’t working. Should We Walk Away?
Can someone who has spent years fighting for liberty really just walk away from politics? I sat down with Ike Skelton to talk about what he’s been doing since losing the Senate race—and what the path ahead might look like. Can Ike actually walk away from politics? I have a hard time believing that’s possible for someone like him. And honestly, I’m not sure it would be wise. Our state needs steady voices who understand the Constitution and are willing to stand on principle, even when it isn’t politically convenient. We also took a hard look at the sudden backlash against Flock cameras. Is there truly an uprising against them, or are we seeing another case of people jumping on the bandwagon because it has suddenly become popular to oppose them? And if people are just waking up to the problem now, why now? Where were the investigations called for by U.S. Senators a couple of years ago when Ike was fighting for his freedom because he stood up for the liberty of his county? That leads to an even bigger question: Is Flock really the issue? Because if Flock disappears tomorrow, our work isn’t finished. We have to remain vigilant enough to recognize when one system of surveillance or control is simply replaced by another. We also went places in this conversation that aren’t always comfortable—and frankly, aren’t always topics people want to discuss. What does limited government actually mean? Does America still understand what our Constitution was designed to do? And more importantly, do we really want limited government? What happens if three-quarters of the country decide they don’t want our current Constitution to stand? Should it be rewritten simply because the majority wants something different? And perhaps the most important question of all: What is our role as Americans—and is that role different from our role as Christians? This conversation covers a lot of ground, but I think these are questions we need to be willing to wrestle with. Take a listen and let me know what you think. Beyond The Echo Chamber
What happens when we stop talking only to people who already agree with us? That was one of the reasons I invited Cody Hutcheson to join me on Nadine@9. I knew Cody and I had different perspectives on some issues, and I wanted to have more conversations on the show where differing viewpoints are actually welcome. It’s easy to live in an echo chamber. We hear the same opinions, follow the same people, and surround ourselves with voices that reinforce what we already believe. But if we’re never challenged, how do we know whether our convictions have been thoughtfully examined? Sometimes being challenged should cause us to change our minds. Other times, it should cause us to dig deeper, ask better questions, and gain an even stronger understanding of why we believe what we believe. My conversation with Cody ended up covering more of her personal story—from her time serving in the United States Air Force to what eventually brought her to Missouri and led her to run for State Representative in District 123. But one moment in the conversation really stood out to me. A caller challenged Cody on her perspective, and rather than becoming defensive or dismissive, she remained calm and respectful. So maybe we haven’t lost the ability to have meaningful conversations after all. Maybe we can disagree on a lot of things and still recognize the things we do agree on. Maybe we can work toward a common goal without pretending our differences don’t exist. And maybe listening to someone we disagree with doesn’t mean compromising our convictions—it means having enough confidence in those convictions to actually engage. As a follower of Christ, I know there will always be a divide between those who have repented and accepted salvation and those who have not. But that divide was never meant to be an excuse to alienate people. So the question I continue to ask myself is: How do I love someone well, have an honest conversation, and neither condone what is wrong nor condemn the person? I hope this episode encourages you to step outside your own echo chamber, listen to someone you disagree with, and remember that disagreement doesn’t have to mean division. Rugged. Unconventional. Passionate.
This week, I talked with 26-year-old Jake Jackson—a young American who is ready to put in the hard work required to preserve our Republic. Jake’s passion for limited government and individual liberty started early. Even as a kid, he noticed government attempting to dictate certain day-to-day aspects of life, and it never sat well with him. Some difficult years in middle school would ultimately help prepare him for the path he is on today: politics. And Jake isn’t stepping into politics to simply fall in line. He’s stepping into it to ask questions, challenge assumptions, hold politicians accountable, and encourage healthy debate—even when that means challenging people on his own side. We talk about the problems that arise when party loyalty becomes more important than constitutional principles, the “uniparty” mentality that can reward bullies and discourage dissent, and why Republicans shouldn’t automatically fall in line simply because their party has put something forward. Because, as I say often, our loyalty shouldn’t belong to a political party. It should belong to the Constitution—and to the principles that make our Republic worth defending. And there’s a pretty fitting family connection behind Jake’s passion for the fight. He has traced his ancestry back to John Sevier, a battle-tested Patriot who fought for American independence and went on to become Tennessee’s first governor. Turns out, those Patriot roots run pretty deep. This is what it looks like when a young American decides that being a citizen means more than simply casting a ballot every few years. Post Election Thoughts
Missouri was loud and clear: the legislature did not give voters amendments worth changing our Constitution for. Now the question is—will our elected officials listen? My hope is that the Governor and General Assembly will look at this election as an opportunity to recognize that they need to do better. My concern is that instead, they’ll simply blame “stupid” voters for not understanding what they were trying to accomplish. But there’s a bigger issue here that goes beyond these two amendments. How did we get to a place where we think it’s acceptable to block someone simply because we’re annoyed with them or disagree with them? When did belittling someone for having a different viewpoint become acceptable? And perhaps most importantly, when did we decide that being a Republican—or belonging to any political party—means we have to defend everything our side does? I don’t belong to a political party, and I won’t allow any party to dictate what is right and what is wrong. Truth isn’t determined by a party platform, a politician, or a majority vote. Truth is found in one place—and I belong only to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. So here’s my question for those Republicans who supported these two amendments: Would you have supported them if Democrat leadership had put them forward? The Supermajority Problem

Election Day is almost here, and Missouri voters have four constitutional amendments in front of them. On this episode, Mike and Amy from Act4MO join me to walk through each proposal, what it would do, and why these measures deserve more than a quick glance before heading to the polls. One of the biggest frustrations we discuss isn’t simply what’s on the ballot—it’s how these amendments got there. Time and again this legislative session, Missouri’s Republican supermajority had opportunities to send clean, straightforward proposals to the people. Instead, many voters are once again left sorting through complicated compromises and political “sausage.” We also talk about the growing divide among conservatives. Increasingly, anyone unwilling to embrace mediocre legislation is dismissed as helping the other side or labeled something they’re not. But healthy disagreement isn’t always a sign that something is wrong. Sometimes it’s evidence that people are refusing to compromise on principle. As Christians, our identity should never be rooted in a political party or movement. Years ago, God reminded me that my truest label is “redeemed.” That’s the identity I want to carry, regardless of which political battles are won or lost. We may not win every battle in front of us, but Scripture reminds us that the war has already been decided. My prayer is simply that we remain faithful to Christ until the very end. Steadfast Under Pressure
Taylor Burks is a fifth-generation Missourian, a U.S. Navy commander and veteran with multiple overseas deployments, a former Boone County Clerk, and a Republican candidate for Missouri's newly drawn 5th Congressional District. Raised on a family farm in the Ozarks, Burks says his leadership has been shaped by military service, public service, and his commitment to faith and family. He and his wife, Elyse, are raising their three sons in Boone County. Redistricting changed the political landscape in Missouri, and for Taylor Burks, it also changed his calling. Seeing what he believed was a lack of leadership from someone seeking the newly drawn congressional seat, he decided it was time to step back into the race. But this conversation goes much deeper than politics. Taylor shares how years in the military prepared him to stand firm under pressure, to lead with integrity when compromise would have been easier, and to understand that leadership isn’t built through grand speeches—it’s built through faithful, consistent work day after day. One of the most refreshing parts of our conversation wasn’t about legislation at all. It was hearing a man openly acknowledge that he doesn’t do this alone. Taylor spoke about the unwavering support of his wife, Elyse, whose prayers and encouragement have strengthened him throughout his journey. He also emphasized the importance of surrounding himself with godly men who are willing to hold him accountable for both his words and his actions. Happy 2nd Anniversary!
It all started on July 5, 2024. Looking back, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the way God orchestrated so many things to bring incredible people into my life. Through this little podcast, I’ve had the privilege of meeting new friends, hearing inspiring stories, and walking down paths I never could have planned myself. Nadine@9 has become a much bigger part of my life than I ever imagined. Believe it or not, I still get nervous before every single show! But every week, I also have this quiet assurance that this is exactly where God wants me to be. If I’m honest, there are times when I get distracted by numbers, downloads, and growing the audience. But every time I start focusing on those things, God gently reminds me why I started this journey in the first place. This show has never been about building a platform—it has always been about pointing people toward eternal Truth and faithfully using whatever opportunities He places in front of me. One of the things I’ve loved most about this experience is seeing how God prepares us for something long before we ever know it’s coming. Nadine@9 was never on my radar, yet somehow He had been preparing me for it all along. In the grand scheme of things, this podcast may seem small, but I’m incredibly grateful for each of you who has listened, shared an episode, sent an encouraging message, or prayed for me. The Wizard Behind the Curtain
Everyone has heard the phrase “conspiracy theory.” But how often do we stop to ask what those words actually mean? Conspiracy:A secret plan between two or more people to commit an unlawful, harmful, or deceptive act. Conspiracy Theory:An explanation that alleges a conspiracy is responsible for an event or circumstance, typically before it has been conclusively proven. So why do we so often use the two interchangeably? And when evidence is presented, what does it take before we stop dismissing uncomfortable questions and start examining uncomfortable facts? In this episode, Dr. Frank and I discuss election integrity, institutional accountability, and why admitting failure seems to be one of the hardest things for governments—and people—to do. If the goal is fair and transparent elections, why is there so much resistance to independent scrutiny? How deep does the problem go, and how bad does it have to get before someone finally pulls back the curtain? If you had asked Dr. Frank years ago where life was headed, election integrity would never have made the list. A scientist by training and a respected member of the academic community, he expected to spend his career in research—not at the center of one of the most controversial issues of our time. But God has a way of redirecting even the best-laid plans. Where There’s A Will...
This week’s guest is someone many of you in the area already know from Lake TV, but he’s also someone I’ve had the privilege of calling a friend for a while. In this conversation, Will Holtz shares his story—the good, the hard, and the redemptive. We talk about growing up in the Catholic Church, the faith foundations that stayed with him, and the things he began to see differently as he navigated his own walk with God. Will also opens up about buying a local television station at a young age and trying to figure out who he was while carrying the weight of leading a business. Like so many of us, Will made choices he wishes he could take back. Choices that could have easily become the label that followed him for the rest of his life. But God had a different story to write. Instead of being defined by addiction, Will chose the difficult road of recovery. With the unwavering support of his wife and the grace of God, he has now celebrated many years of sobriety. Today, he shares his story not because he’s proud of every chapter, but because he’s seen how God can use even our darkest moments to bring hope to someone else. America is closing in on its 250th birthday, but instead of fireworks and nostalgia, maybe it’s time for some honesty. What kind of country are we becoming? I Like Ike
The race for Missouri Senate District 6 is heating up. With the current seat holder terming out, the field is filled with candidates eager to claim the spot. But while many are talking about freedom, constitutional values, and fighting government overreach, only one candidate has already proven he’s willing to act when it matters most: Ike Skelton. I sit down with Ike to discuss why he’s entering the race, what leadership should actually look like, and why Missouri voters are hungry for representatives who are willing to do more than make campaign promises. As presiding commissioner over the last three+ years, Ike faced a direct challenge when his county became entangled in concerns surrounding mass surveillance through Flock camera systems. Rather than ignore the issue or hide behind bureaucracy, he helped LEAD the charge against what many viewed as intrusion. After an ordinance was passed requiring the cameras to be removed — and the company failed to comply — Ike personally stepped in and removed the camera himself.*Read more about that here. That moment became symbolic of something larger: leadership rooted in conviction, not convenience. A longtime activist dating back to the Tea Party movement, Ike understands the importance of constitutional limits, honest government, and transparency at every level. He believes elected officials should know the Constitution, follow it, and remember that government exists to serve the people — not control them. We also discuss the growing push for massive data center expansion across Missouri and why Ike believes communities should be cautious whenever government begins artificially forcing “growth” into an area. To Ike, real prosperity happens organically — through strong communities, local businesses, and citizens shaping their own future. When government and corporate interests begin aggressively steering development from the top down, history shows that trouble usually follows close behind. As the campaign trail heats up, voters are going to hear a lot of polished speeches, slogans, and promises from candidates trying to separate themselves from the pack. But amid all the noise, there’s one thing worth remembering: when the pressure came, when government intrusion became real, and when leadership actually mattered — Ike was the one who led. The Left Hand No One’s Watching
What is the proper role of government—and who are we really loyal to? In this episode, I sit down with Tom Martz (Locke & Smith Foundation) for a conversation that cuts through party lines and goes straight to the heart of responsibility, truth, and accountability. We dig into a pattern that feels all too familiar: when one party is in power, outrage is loud—but when the other takes over, the questions suddenly disappear. So what’s really going on? Is it ignorance… or intentional blindness? Using the analogy of the oldest trick in the book—watch the shiny thing in one hand while the other hides the truth—we explore how easily distraction replaces discernment in today’s political climate. Truth doesn’t shift based on who holds office. If we only demand accountability when it’s convenient—or when it’s the “other side”—then we’re not standing for truth… we’re standing for preference. Are you holding leaders to a consistent standard…or just the ones you already disagree with?
