Motional Intelligence

Calum Goddard

Motional Intelligence is a podcast for people who enjoy pushing themselves (and for the rest who'd rather watch, ideally seated). Every Thursday I talk to athletes and content creators about what's really going on when it gets hard: marathon training that wrecks social plans, personal bests nobody claps for, and the 5K that felt like an IRONMAN at the time.

Runners, this is your KM-after-KM companion. Everyone else, feel free to just feel vaguely inspired. Motivation, movement, and some truly terrible takes. This is Motional Intelligence with Calum Goddard!

Ello: The Truth Behind Ello & Mark Dowdle's Viral Ultramarathon Showdown...

FINALLY! We find out what really happened... This week I sat down with ultra runner Ayyoub El Osrouti AKA Ello. I travelled over to the Another Cotton Lab store in Düsseldorf, Germany just days after he completed one of the most dramatic backyard ultras ever seen... The Last Soul Ultra. Ello ran 93 loops (623.7km) over 4 days, battling Achilles issues, sleep deprivation, hallucinations, and an intense head-to-head rivalry with Mark Dowdle that went viral around the world. This was such a great chat and so so interesting to get inside the head of one of the greatest endurance runners in the world at the moment.Ello: https://www.instagram.com/anotherello/?hl=en Follow on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@motionalintelligencepod Follow on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/motionalintelligencepod Calum's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/calumgoddard/ Calum's TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@calumgoddard YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@UC4g2mhwrlRBzXhAsyXVWz4A Contact: motionalintelligencepod@gmail.com 00:00 - Intro: Ello's Last Soul Ultra result 00:50 - Welcome to the podcast 04:17 - How Ello's body feels after finishing 09:07 - Ello's PBs and race highlights (Ironman, London Marathon) 12:53 - Introducing the Last Soul Ultra rivalry story 19:30 - Bringing in elite coach Sam Harvey 30:46 - Back to the start line of this year's race 35:10 - The first mental barrier of a 4-day ultra 39:06 - The final 14 laps: it gets tense with Mark 49:01 - Ello's relationship with Mark Dowdle 58:12 - The viral finish line meltdown moment 1:03:09 - Fame, attention, and being an athlete vs. an influencer 1:06:04 - Room 101: what Ello can't stand about the race 1:08:43 - Fan questions: darkest thoughts, hallucinations, and more 1:16:36 - What's next for Ello: Moab 240

I sat down with George Rickwood to break down the Last Soul Ultra, the backyard ultra that took over the internet. DOUBLE OLYMPIC CHAMPION🤯🥇Not only one of the most decorated triathletes of all time, he’s a hero for many and was part of the iconic Team GB in 2008, 2012 & 2016 👏🏼. Alistair gave us one of the most iconic, heartwarming & controversial moments on endurance sport when he dragged his brother Jonny at the world championships over the line. If you were to have told that young lad watching the 2012 Olympics that he’d be one day chatting with a man who won gold I would have laughed at you. Emily Fairs is back on the pod! And if that wasn't enough, we touch on the Meta glasses consent controversy, London Marathon's new two-day format, and why delusion and optimism might be the secret to achieving anything. 48. Holly Archer on Why Hyrox Needs FIXING & Future of Content Creator ATHLETES

Holly Archer — European Silver Medalist and one of the most exciting voices in endurance sport — joins the podcast for an honest conversation about what it really takes to compete at the highest level. Holly opens up about her unlikely origin story: getting a double detention at age 12 for "cheating" in a school cross country race — an accusation lighting a fire that never went out. From a scholarship at an American university to training at altitude with Under Armour, missing Tokyo 2021 by 0.04 of a second, burning out as a pro, and rebuilding from scratch — Holly holds nothing back. She also gets into why Hyrox has a consistency problem, the controversial gel wrapper penalty that cost her a World Championship spot, why she ran a 2:33 marathon with zero long runs in the build-up, and why she believes brands and content creators need to take more responsibility for the running advice they're putting out. In this episode: The school cross country story that started it all Life on a D1 athletic scholarship in Texas Coming 4th at Tokyo Olympic trials by 0.04 seconds Transitioning from track to Hyrox — and why it's working Why Hyrox's rulebook is broken Running a 2:33 marathon off a Hyrox block Content creators, stress fractures & the responsibility gap (00:00:00) Introduction (00:00:48) Who Is Holly Archer?
