"Whose Wife Is It Anyway?" (Series 2, Episode 2)

Arthur's old mate Alex has been beaten up and ended up in hospital, so naturally Arthur sees an opportunity - and Terry finds himself looking after an antiques shop. But things aren't quite what they seem. Alex's wife Gloria is involved, the shop's other owner Jim raises Terry's suspicions, and before long Terry is convinced there's something decidedly fishy going on. In this episode of Minder: On The Slate, Andy, Mark and Pete head into Series Two for a story packed with dodgy dealings, mistaken assumptions, antiques, Arthur's latest wheezes and one of Terry's more memorable investigations. There's also plenty to discuss when it comes to the episode's language and attitudes, some of which are considerably more problematic to modern ears! Andy, Mark and Pete attempt to tackle some of the more uncomfortable moments carefully and in context - but can they actually pull it off or have they just cancelled themselves? You decide....Slate it Dave!

"National Pelmet" (Series 2, Episode 1)

Pete, Mark and Andy sit down with National Pelmet, as Terry joins Arthur on a little seaside jaunt to Brighton — where Arthur has a meeting with the wonderfully named Jeremy Burnham-Jones. Arthur thinks he’s onto a right winner with Jeremy’s miniature statues, while Terry unexpectedly finds himself minding a racehorse called Pelmet. He’s more than happy to take the job, though, when he meets the lovely Jocelyn Maxwell-Saunders. But as Terry and Arthur soon discover, there’s rather more to Jeremy and Miss Saunders than first meets the eye. The lads chat about one of the rare occasions when Minder escapes London, Arthur’s latest get-rich-quick wheeze, Terry’s susceptibility to a pretty face, and the increasingly mysterious business surrounding Pelmet. And just who is actually trying to do away with the horse? Slate it, Dave!

Bonus Episode: 2026 World Cup Special - "The World Cup: A Captain's Tale"

Pete, Mark and Andy head back to 1909 for a special discussion of The World Cup: A Captain's Tale, the much-loved football drama starring Dennis Waterman as West Auckland miner and footballer Bob Jones. Based on the extraordinary true story of the West Auckland football team, the film follows a team of County Durham amateurs who unexpectedly find themselves travelling to Italy to compete in the Sir Thomas Lipton Trophy against some of Europe's finest clubs. The lads discuss why this enduring drama remains such a favourite amongst football supporters and television enthusiasts alike, exploring its blend of sporting adventure, working-class life and one of football's greatest underdog stories. They also consider Dennis Waterman's performance away from the familiar territory of Terry McCann and examine the real-life events that inspired the film. Along the way, expect nostalgia, trivia and a celebration of a remarkable production that captures the spirit of a community taking on the world. It's a tale of grit, pride and adventure - and proof that football's greatest stories don't always happen on the biggest stages.

"You Gotta Have Friends" (Series 1, Episode 11)

Pete, Mark and Andy take a look at You Gotta Have Friends, where Arthur’s loyalty to an old mate lands both him and Terry right in the middle of a very nasty mess involving fake bearer bonds, gangsters, and a dead man floating in the water. When “Pretty Billy” Gilpin turns up battered and desperate for help, Terry reluctantly chauffeurs him out of London — only for Billy to end up dead soon afterwards. Before long, Arthur and Terry are being leaned on by violent heavyweight Bobby Altman, who reckons they know exactly where Billy’s missing stash has gone. The lads discuss one of the darker episodes of early Minder, with Arthur genuinely out of his depth for once, Terry trying to keep everybody alive, and a cracking turn from George Baker as the menacing Altman. Plus there’s chat about dodgy aristocrats, Arthur’s gift for attracting trouble, and why this one feels more like a proper London gangster film than a cosy caper. Slate it, Dave!

"The Dessert Song" (Series 1, Episode 10)

Pete, Mark and Andy sit down with The Dessert Song, where Arthur gets involved in the restaurant business for all the wrong reasons — mainly because he fancies the owner and reckons there’s probably a free meal in it somewhere. After Terry and Arthur step in to help a bloke getting a hiding in the street, they find themselves caught up in a messy family feud at a Greek restaurant, complete with dodgy relatives, old grudges, and people losing their tempers every five minutes. Terry ends up playing peacekeeper while Arthur wanders about acting like he owns the place. The lads chat about Arthur’s terrible flirting, Terry getting dragged into yet another situation he wants no part of, and why this episode manages to be funny, tense, and slightly chaotic all at once. Slate it, Dave!

"Monday Night Fever" (Series 1, Episode 9)

This week on On The Slate, Pete, Andy and Mark head into Minder’s “Monday Night Fever”, where Arthur Daley fancies himself as a music impresario and, as ever, is completely out of his depth. When Arthur discovers Sharon Dobbs, an aspiring singer with big dreams and a questionable set of pipes, he’s convinced he’s found a goldmine. Before long, he’s promising gigs, talking up her talent, and putting money behind a showcase at a seedy nightclub run by exactly the sort of people Arthur should know better than to trust. Terry, naturally, isn’t buying any of it and finds himself dragged along for the ride as things start to unravel. The big night doesn’t quite go to plan, the cracks begin to show, and Arthur is left facing the reality that not every opportunity is the “little earner” he thinks it is. Pete, Andy and Mark break it all down with the usual mix of insight and humour, taking in the clubland setting, the guest performances, and an episode that shows what happens when Arthur’s confidence finally meets its match.

"Come In T-64, Your Time is Ticking Away" (Series 1, Episode 8)

When a minicab firm Arthur’s got a stake in starts taking a pasting — drivers getting roughed up, motors getting wrecked — it looks like someone’s trying to send a message. Keen to protect his investment (and more importantly, his profits), Arthur sends Terry in undercover as a driver to find out who’s behind it.What follows is less a simple protection job and more a slow-burning stitch-up, as Terry works the rank and realises the attacks aren’t random at all. With tensions rising, livelihoods on the line, and Arthur sniffing an angle as always, it becomes clear someone very close to the business has their own agenda — and they’re willing to play dirty to get what they want.Pete, Mark and Andy dig into an early, grittier episode of Minder that leans into the realities of late-70s London — part character piece, part low-level crime story — with Terry doing the legwork while Arthur circles for the best deal. And of course, there’s the small matter of the On the Slate Hall of Fame — who’s earned their place this week, and who’s been sent packing? So, keep your head down, watch who you’re working for… Slate it, Dave.

"The Bengal Tiger" (Series 1 Episode 7)

When a local newsagent finds his shop under attack, it looks like a straightforward job—step in, apply a bit of pressure, and restore order. Naturally, Arthur Daley sees an opportunity, and before long Terry’s drawn into what should be a routine bit of protection work. But in Arthur’s world, nothing stays simple for long, and this “little earner” soon becomes tangled up in family expectations, uneasy alliances, and a situation that no amount of smooth talking can neatly resolve. Pete, Mark and Andy dig into an episode that shows a slightly different side of Minder—still packed with sharp dialogue and dodgy dealings, but with an added layer of tension bubbling beneath the surface. And of course, there’s the small matter of the On the Slate Hall of Fame—who’s earned their place this week, and who’s been firmly shown the door? So, pull up a chair, keep your wits about you… slate it, Dave!

"Aces High...& Sometimes Very Low" (Series 1 Episode 6)

This week, we’re heading into the smoky, high-stakes world of Minder with “Aces High: And Sometimes Very Low”—an episode where luck, nerve, and a fast shuffle of the cards are the name of the game. When a professional gambler hits a casino for everything it’s worth, it should be a cause for celebration… but in Arthur Daley’s world, a big win rarely stays that way for long. Before you can say “double or nothing,” the winnings vanish, and suddenly Terry’s pulled into a murky game involving dodgy deals, shady characters, and the kind of trouble that doesn’t stay confined to the card table. Pete, Mark and Andy break down an episode that perfectly captures Minder’s blend of grit and humour—where ambition meets bad luck, and Arthur’s “little earner” instincts once again land everyone in hot water. Along the way, there’s talk of memorable guest turns, classic late-70s atmosphere, and just how quickly fortunes can turn in Arthur’s London. So, pour yourself something strong, keep your cards close to your chest… and remember: in this game, the house always has a way of winning.

"The Bounty Hunter" (Series 1, Episode 5)

Pete, Mark and Andy dive into The Bounty Hunter, where Arthur spots what looks like a chance to play the white knight… and maybe make a few quid on the side. When an old acquaintance of Arthur’s—a recently widowed Jo—is conned out of her late husband’s insurance money in a dodgy overseas property scam, Arthur promises to help put things right. Naturally, that means sending Terry in to do the actual graft, with vague assurances of a reward if the cash can be recovered. What starts as a simple bit of debt collection soon turns murky, as Terry discovers the money’s vanished into a web of chancers, middlemen, and outright liars—all pleading they’re as skint as the victim. But when Arthur clocks the supposed “broke” mastermind swanning about in a Rolls Royce, the game changes.... .

    "A Tethered Goat" (Series 1, Episode 4)

Pete, Mark and Andy tuck into one of Minder’s most memorable early outings, where what looks like a cushy little earner quickly spirals into something far more dangerous. Arthur, sensing an easy few quid, loans Terry out as a bodyguard to visiting Lebanese businessman Bassam Sayin—promising a straightforward three-day job with minimal aggro. Naturally, that lasts about five minutes. Terry soon realises their man isn’t just a nervous foreign client… he’s a walking target. With hired heavies circling and Arthur blundering about in the background, Terry has to switch from minder to full-on protector, navigating double-crosses, dodgy diplomacy, and a rapidly escalating situation that’s way above Arthur’s usual pay grade. Along the way, the lads discuss the episode’s shift in tone—from light caper to genuine threat—plus standout guest turns, Arthur’s toe-curling attempts at playing host, and why this story marks an early moment where Minder starts thinking a bit bigger than the manor. "Shooters, Terry, shooters!"

"The Smaller They Are ..." (Series 1, Episode 3)

Pete, Mark and Andy take on Minder’s third outing, where small-time chancer Scotch Harry nicks a suitcase from the airport and suddenly finds himself holding what looks like a fortune in crisp American dollars. Naturally, when Harry realises he’s in way over his head with international crooks, corrupt coppers and some very dangerous people looking for their money back, he turns to the only man in London who can “sort it out” — Arthur Daley. As usual, the lads will be handing out Guest Star Hall of Fame nominations (with particular attention to the unforgettable pairing of Scotch Harry and Big Stan), checking in with the Terry’s Fights Rating as patience inevitably gives way to fists, and enjoying another early glimpse of the ever-watchful DC Rycott. There’s also plenty to enjoy in this early-series outing where the stakes suddenly get international — even if the cash itself might not be quite what it seems.

"Gunfight at the OK Launderette" (Series 1, Episode 1)

Pete, Mark and Andy launch the pod with the show’s perfect mission statement: Arthur Daley “loans” Terry out for a routine cash job… and Terry ends up trapped in a laundrette hostage siege when an armed robbery kicks off. They love how Terry’s steady head keeps things from going bang, while Arthur instantly sniffs publicity and profit from Terry’s accidental hero moment. Also: first proper Guest Star Hall of Fame debate, the Terry’s Fights Rating baseline (more nerves than knuckles), and a big nod to how this opener nails the blend of danger, laughs, and Arthur’s shameless hustle.

"Bury My Half at Waltham Green" (Series 1, Episode 2)

Pete, Mark and Andy dig into Minder’s second adventure, where Arthur promises Terry an easy gig minding a newly released bank robber with a buried stash… and of course, nothing is ever that simple. Terry dutifully collects Albert Stubbs — only to find the job is fraught with erratic behaviour, rival crooks sniffing around for the hidden loot, and Arthur’s typical behind-the-scenes scheming to stay one step ahead. As a standard, we will discuss Guest Star Hall of Fame nominations (particularly for the delightful chaos brought by the Stubbs double act), a Terry’s Fights Rating check on patience versus punching, and a big nod to how this early outing cements that no job is ever “easy” when Daley’s involved.
