Midlife Unlimited

Kate Porter

Midlife Unlimited® is the podcast for women who want more!

I’m your host Kate Porter, The Midlife Metamorphosis Coach®, and each week I'm joined by a fabulous female guest to smash stereotypes, bust myths and tell Midlife how it really is.

Nothing is off limits - because together there's no limit to what we can achieve.

I know what it's like to feel stuck navigating the Midlife maze. I've looked in the mirror and though "Who IS that woman?".

So Midlife Unlimited® is here to let you know you are NOT alone. You don't have to put on a brave face and mask how you really feel. You don't have to settle and play it safe.

I'd love to hear your feedback on this podcast for Gen X-up women - would you like to join me as my guest, or sponsor the show?

And if you'd like to arrange a virtual coffee to talk about how we can work together 1-2-1 or in my all-in-one coaching program MORE! drop me a message.

How to Reclaim Yourself to Find Your Thrive as a Midlife Woman with Guest Emma Foster

Join the Midlife Unlimited® conversation by sending Kate a text What word sums up how you feel about Midlife? Again and again, I’m hearing from Gen X women who feel stuck… lost… invisible… surviving. Sound familiar? I’m all about unleashing the woman we deserve to be and living midlife our way… on our terms. And my Episode 113 guest agrees, perfectly epitomizing one of my favorite words for how I feel about Midlife and the opportunities that our Second Spring brings. I am delighted to be joined by Emma Foster, founder of Fifty Thrive and Midlife storyteller, to talk about How to reclaim yourself to find your Thrive. In this episode, Emma shares her powerful journey from a life-changing medical misdiagnosis at 46, through grief and loss, to discovering her own core Thrive foundations: curiosity, connection, courage, and compassion. She explains how these pillars guide her life and help build resilience, especially during challenging times. We dive into Emma's concept of "Fifty Shades of Thrive," emphasizing that thriving is a personal, unique journey for every Gen X woman. Plus, we talk about future ambitions, travel, starting a YouTube channel, and raising vital funds for Alzheimer's research. Tune in for an uplifting conversation on self-discovery, vulnerability, embracing aging, and becoming a true "thriveseeker." How to Help Men give themselves Permission to Grieve with Guest Stuart Walker

Join the Midlife Unlimited® conversation by sending Kate a text Please note that this episode includes open and candid conversations about grief, loss, and suicide. If you or someone you know is struggling, please know support is available. Grief is tough… and so is talking about it… Which can drive a wedge between us and our male nearest and dearest. According to new research by Sue Ryder Charity, men tend to be action-focused grievers—so can appear less emotional as they prioritize practical issues. But the research also found that 80% of men feel alone in their grief, with 52% admitting to bottling up how they were feeling and wanting to appear strong. And when asked why, 56% said they had to in order to support others. So do men grieve differently to women? And how can we broach the subject of bereavement and loss with the gents in our life? To explore this, I’m delighted to welcome my Episode 112 guest, integrative counsellor and psychotherapist Stuart Walker, an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist specialising in men's mental health, fatherhood, and grief. In this powerful episode, Stuart and I discuss the complexities of grief, including how it manifests in different forms such as bereavement, empty nest syndrome, and the loss of roles or jobs. Stuart explains the stages of grief using a brilliant metaphor about losing keys, and we delve into the unique challenges of grief following suicide and loss. We explore how men and women process grief, looking beyond stereotypes to individual experiences, and Stuart introduces his "Magnificent Seven"—a set of practical guidelines to help facilitate conversations about grief. This includes role modelling, talking alongside activities, resisting the urge to "fix" things, and being truly prepared for when someone opens up – DM me for the PDF link. Tune in for an insightful conversation on creating safe spaces, approaching the people we love before they feel forced to ask for help, and supporting the men in our lives to give themselves permission to grieve. How to Stick Your Head Above the Parapet with Guest Saskia Skoric

Join the Midlife Unlimited® conversation by sending Kate a text Do you doubt yourself? Are you hiding your talents? Stifling your creativity because you're worried about what others will think? For Midlife women like you and me, this is a great time to dust off forgotten pastimes, to rekindle our passions, to turn that dimmer switch to full brightness and put ourselves out there. And my Episode 111 guest is Fine Art Fingerpainter Saskia Skoric is a fabulous example of a Gen X woman who has done just that. Join us as we explore how to stick your head above the parapet by overcoming long-held fear of judgement to reach that Eureka moment of at last feeling free from the shackles of low self-worth. Saskia shares her artist's journey, and we delve into how hurtful experiences in our teens can have a huge impact on how we not only feel about our own abilities, but can hold us back from reaching our full potential - which drove Saskia to walk away from the art she loved. Tune in for Saskia's insights from how she reignited her love of painting, which will inspire you to give yourself permission to experiment and explore your passions to find what is right for you now - and moving forward into your new chapter. How to use connection to feel you belong as a Midlife woman with guest Angie Litvinoff

Join the Midlife Unlimited® conversation by sending Kate a text When was the last time you felt like you truly belonged? Not because you were managing everyone else's needs, but just as yourself? Many of us have spent decades fitting into roles. But as life shifts, that sense of deep connection can start to feel elusive. Identity is a topic that comes up again and again here on Midlife Unlimited®. That feeling of not recognising the woman we are. Maybe mourning the woman we were. Or worried about the future... what kind of woman are we becoming? What is our role now? Who are we? If this resonates, join me and my guest Medicine Woman Angie Litvinoff as we explore how to use connection to feel you belong as a Midlife woman. With beautiful honesty and openness, Angie relates how fleeing Chile as a child and beginning again as a immigrant in the UK has led to her questioning everything and that "belonging takes on a nomadic quality where you connect with something much deeper than where you were born". We delve into why "the sh*t hit the fan" when Angie turned 50, and Angie shares how she walks a path that merges her roots and ancestral heritage with the now - and how her evolution of belonging has led to her becoming known as the Midwife of the True Self. See the transcript for our full conversation. How to Meet Yourself Again as a Midlife Woman with Guest Jayne Clayton

Join the Midlife Unlimited® conversation by sending Kate a text I'm often asked why I use the word metamorphosis over transformation? And it's simple. Because in both my own experience and that of the fabulous females I coach, everything we need to fall in love with ourselves is already inside us. It's just a matter of waking it up. Taking stock, as we stand on the threshold of our next era. Not yearning to go backwards when we're feeling stuck between "Is this it...?" and "What's next...?". But realigning ourselves with who we are right now. And giving ourselves permission to let go of what's no longer serving us, and the woman we've outgrown. To make room for what does bring us joy. And my Episode 109 guest Jayne Clayton, founder of Menopause Well, feels the same. Jayne shares how discovering new focus while navigating grief led her to come to understand and know herself for the first time. And now living like me joyously alcohol-free, Jayne reveals how she realised that the answer to the questions she was asking herself lay not in a bottle of wine, but in the power of self-care and carving time to nurture herself - which is now at the core of her mission to help Midlife women. . Join the Midlife Unlimited® conversation by sending Kate a text Menopause. It's a fact, and we can't change that. But one thing I'm all for is making sure the facts we get surrounding menopause are just that - facts. Join the Midlife Unlimited® conversation by sending Kate a text Are you getting enough? Could you always do with more? Sleep! Arguably Midlife’s most precious commodity – and a hot topic with a myriad of information, advice and suggestions infiltrating our socials… to the point that it’s tough to sort what will actually work for us from the latest marketing fad. So if you’re fed up with tossing and turning, but exhausted trying to find a solution, then Midlife Unlimited® Episode 103 is just for you. Because I’m delighted to be joined by my guest Sonia Jenkins, Midlife health coach and author of The Invisible Midlife Woman, to talk about How to get a good night’s sleep. Sonia and I share insights and inspiration for how to assess and rethink our sleep hygiene routine. But our conversation goes much deeper than cutting back on caffeine and ditching the doom scrolling. How to Make Connections that Count as a Midlife Woman with Guest Jen Corcoran

Join the Midlife Unlimited® conversation by sending Kate a text If you’d told me 10 years ago that I’d be sitting here at 57 with a band of fabulous cheerleaders, and nurturing wonderful new friendships, I’d have laughed in your face… Because I was lonely. Friendships had drifted… Circumstances had shifted. And I didn’t have the confidence, or the motivation, to start forging new connections, whether for business or pleasure. But it is possible… I’m proof. And it’s a timely topic to explore as we kick-start September. So I’m delighted to be joined for Midlife Unlimited Episode 102 by LinkedIn Strategist and trainer Jen Corcoran to talk about How to make Connections that Count as a Midlife woman. Joining the dots can be scary, especially when a myriad of Midlife changes can be making us feel vulnerable. From that wedding where you know no-one, to joining a new dance class, via the potentially overwhelming new networking event, Jen and I explore why temptation to choose JOMO over FOMO can cause us to miss out on marvellous opportunities to turn chance meetings into meaningful relationships. We explore why quality over quantity is the way to go when forging Midlife friends. Jen shares inspiration and anecdotes for her experiences as both an introvert and a super connector, and don’t miss our proven practical advice that you can use to start meeting people that light you up – whether at work or play. And – it would be rude not to ask her – Jen walks us through how we can ensure our LinkedIn headline is a powerful tool for attracting connections that count. How to Get Out of Your Own Head with Guest Lisa Webb

Join the Midlife Unlimited® conversation by sending Kate a text One of the many changes Midlife brings - and one that can really take us by surprise - is spending more time on our own. And this can be not just a shock, but an open invitation for our inner critic to do her worst. From empty nesting to pivoting and starting our own business, my guest director of Pink Frog Limited Lisa Webb and I explore how spending hours in our own company can result in us heading down rabbit holes of overthinking, procrastination and uncertainty as we create excuses and talk ourselves out of things. Lisa explains how we can be busy, capable and holding things together but, while we don't necessarily feel lonely, spending long stretches of time alone - particularly when working for ourselves - can feel surprisingly isolating. And Lisa shares how she has discovered surprising and enriching ways of getting out of her own head. How to Use Movement Hacking in Midlife with Endurance Sport with guest Alexandra Johnson

Join the Midlife Unlimited® conversation by sending Kate a text There's a Midlife rebellion going on that we're just not talking about enough! More and more of us are rejecting the "slow down" stereotype that gets slapped on us when we hit our 50s, and we're choosing to take on physical challenges instead. If you're tempted to ramp your fitness up a gear, find out MORE by joining me and my guest founder of The Movement Hacking Project Alexandra Johnson. Alexandra, who was born with a rare vascular condition, shares her metamorphosis journey from being told at 13 she would never walk normally to counting running Marathon des Sables among her athletic achievements. We explore how we can rewrite the stories we're telling ourselves so that we can stop underestimating our Midlife bodies and become stronger, more capable and more independent. And Alexandra explains how her own struggles have led to her creating movement hacking, with insights and practical advice for how we can use her techniques to embrace the adventures our second chapter has to offer. How to Feel Sexy After 50 with Guest Dr Julie Merriman

Join the Midlife Unlimited® conversation by sending Kate a text Are you feeling more "meh" than "mwah!? Has sexy time disappeared off your radar, and you'd rather be chilling with a good book than getting down and dirty with your other half... or finding a spark with someone new? We don't talk about "It" enough here on Midlife Unlimited, so brace yourself for a rather sexy episode as I'm joined by Dr Julie Merriman. We examine how the role of sex changes in Midlife, as it becomes something to explore purely for pleasure and connection. Dr Julie shares her own Midlife metamorphosis from "living on fumes and self-abandonment" to feeling alive and purposeful - and feeling sexy in her own skin again. And Dr Julie, author of Are We Going To Have Sex or What?, shares her insights and advice from her 25 years of clinical work for how we can reignite desire, reclaim our bodies and feel fully alive in our fifth decade and beyond.
