Live at the Bop Stop - Max Schlenk Quintet

Performance and Works used with permission from the artist and venue. Northeast Ohio has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to jazz musicians, no doubt because of the plethora of jazz and classical educational programs. Many students come for a time and move on to other pastures but some, like Max Schlenk, kick the tires on larger markets but choose to make their way back, and we're better for it when they do. The last time saxophonist Max Schlenk was featured on this program he was a student at Oberlin leading an Octet. Six years and one sojourn to New York later Max is back and he makes his home here in Northeast Ohio now as a bandleader and educator. This quartet performance features some of Max's favorites along with a number of original compositions. Featuring Garret Folger on Trumpet, Tim Picard on Guitar, Jordan McBride on Bass, Jeremy McCabe on Drums and Max on Saxophones, and from an April 11th, 2025 performance, it's the Max Schlenk Quintet…Live at the Bop Stop.

Forecast has been a mainstay on the Cleveland music scene for over 30 years, selling out shows consistently and opening for acts as diverse as Grover Washington Junior, Brian Auger and Roy Ayers himself. Live at the Bop Stop - Reclamation Band

Performance and Works used with permission from the artist and venue. Founded in Chicago and Led by Bassist Kevin Robert Martinez, Reclamation Band is modern jazz with an open rural backdrop. Its unique combination of composed and improvised elements evokes an array of moods and styles such as Americana, Avante-Garde and Blues. A number of things make this group's sound unique. The first is the equal division between a guitar and two saxophone leads versus a rhythm section that includes Bass and Bass Clarinet along with drums. I'm a sucker for the Bass Clarinet sound and Kevin really understands how to leverage that sound in a way few other composers do. The second is that the group functions more as a versatile collective than as a fixed unit. Some configurations exchange a saxophone for a trumpet while others exclude guitar. Kevin took eight months off from the band before regrouping for a tour in support of their recent release These Roads and the new material shines as a result. Featuring Kevin Martinez on Bass, Anthony Tadeo on Percussion, Dan Bruce on Guitar, Tony Spicer on Bass Clarinet, Chris Coles on Alto Saxophone and Tim McDonald on Tenor Saxophone, and from a July 19th, 2025 performance it's the Reclamation Band…Live at the Bop Stop.
