Why Christians Can't Be Demon Possessed (And Other Hyper-Charismatic Beliefs I'm Abandoning)
I've been going through a big theological shift as I got more captivated by the gospel and the freedom we have in Jesus... ...and it started to profoundly change my relationship to hyper-charismatic Christianity. The root belief I started to question after receiving deliverances for two years, being trained as a deliverance minister, and starting to give exorcisms essentially was that Christians can be demon possessed. It never sat right with me and never biblically lined up, but the teachers of this ideology were so engaging, confident, and powerful that I was reeled right in. I believe many New Age to Jesus Christians get on this track of going straight into deliverance ministry and that it's a lot of mixture, pride and witchcraft, and New Age mindset applied to Christian sounding things with poorly analyzed Scripture to "back it up"... and I was one of them! I needed to spend more time meditating on the cross than learning demonology theory based on extra-biblical personal revelation. I decided to sit down and concisely go through the Scriptural evidence against Christian demon possession and a variety of other out-in-left-field hyper-charismatic teachings. Yes, I still believe in spiritual warfare and the gifts of the Holy Spirit, but where is our focus? How does the Bible actually say to engage with these things? No where is demon exorcism for a blood-bought believer prescribed. Interested to hear more of my sobering revelation and repentance for engaging in these practices?
