The Twisted Love Triangle That Ended in Murder - Dolly & Otto
Imagine discovering that your wife has been secretly keeping her lover in the attic… for FOUR YEARS. In this episode of Killers, Cults & Queens, Nikki and Cheryl head back to the 1920s for one of the strangest true crime stories we've ever covered: the bizarre case of Dolly Oesterreich and Otto Sanhuber. In 1922, Fred Oesterreich was shot dead inside his Los Angeles home. His wife Dolly was discovered locked inside a pantry, apparently the terrified victim of a robbery gone wrong. But there was one problem: the evidence didn't quite add up. Because hidden above their heads was Dolly's secret lover, Otto Sanhuber — a young man who had been secretly living in the couple's attic for years. Otto had originally met Dolly while working at her husband's factory, and their relationship soon developed into a bizarre secret arrangement. After Fred discovered their affair, Otto was fired… but Dolly wasn't prepared to let him go. Instead, she found a way to keep him close — by hiding him in the attic. For years, Otto lived in secret above Fred's head, helping Dolly around the house, writing pulp fiction and waiting for the opportunity to escape his strange double life. Then Fred was murdered. What followed was a bizarre investigation involving a missing gold watch, suspicious lovers, discarded guns, a hidden man in an attic and a conspiracy that remained secret for years. This is the true story of the man in the attic, one of the strangest forgotten murder cases of the 20th century. ⚠️ This episode contains discussions of murder, domestic abuse, sexual exploitation and coercive relationships. What REALLY Happened After the Titanic Sank? | Titanic Part 3
The Titanic sank on 15 April 1912 — but what happened after the ship disappeared beneath the Atlantic? In the final part of our Titanic series, Nikki and Cheryl go beyond the famous sinking to uncover what happened to the survivors, the dead, and the wreckage left behind. As survivors waited in freezing lifeboats, the RMS Carpathia raced towards them. But rescuing those who survived was only the beginning. Hundreds of people were still missing in the icy Atlantic, and recovery ships were sent back to search for the dead. In this episode of Killers, Cults and Queens, we get into the darker side of the Titanic disaster: the bodies recovered from the ocean, the difficult process of identifying victims, burials at sea, the aftermath for survivors, the investigations into why Titanic sank, and the safety changes that followed. We also look at some of the biggest Titanic questions and myths, including: ⚓ Why did Titanic's distress signal give the wrong location? ⚓ Why were so many Titanic lifeboats launched with empty seats? ⚓ What happened to the bodies left in the Atlantic? ⚓ How many Titanic victims were recovered? ⚓ What happened to J. Bruce Ismay after surviving? ⚓ What happened to Titanic's sister ship Britannic? ⚓ When was the Titanic wreck finally discovered? ⚓ What did the 1997 Titanic movie get right — and wrong? ⚓ And, of course… could Jack and Rose REALLY have both fitted on the door? The Titanic disaster killed more than 1,500 people and changed maritime safety forever. But the story didn't end when the ship sank. This is the final episode in our three-part Titanic series. The Titanic was the most luxurious ship in the world. But how did the supposedly unsinkable ship go from a floating palace to one of history's deadliest maritime disasters? And what REALLY happened before she ever hit the iceberg? In Part 1 of our Titanic series, Cheryl and Nikki explore the incredible true story of the RMS Titanic, from her construction in Belfast to her ill-fated maiden voyage in April 1912. JonBenét Ramsey: Patsy, Burke & The Ransom Note | Unsolved Murder | PT 4
COME AND SEE US ON TOUR THIS OCTOBER! 8th October- The Bedford - London (Livestream available if you can't make it in person) 15th October - The Monkey Barrel - Edinburgh 28th October - Komedia - Brighton https://www.cheerfulearful.co.uk/ In the final episode of our four-part series on the unsolved murder of JonBenét Ramsey, we turn our attention to the Ramsey family themselves — Patsy, Burke and John — and examine the theories, evidence and unanswered questions that have kept this case in the public eye for almost 30 years. We revisit the controversial pineapple theory, the fibres found on the ransom note's duct tape, the disputed interpretation of the 911 call, the Ramsey family's decision to hire lawyers and private investigators, and the grand jury proceedings of 1999. We also discuss the DNA evidence that led to the Ramsey family being publicly cleared in 2008. Then we get into some of the strangest and most debated details of the case: the alleged photograph taken inside the Ramsey home on Christmas night, the handwriting comparison involving Patsy Ramsey and the infamous ransom note, and the theories surrounding Burke Ramsey and the torch found in the house. As always, we're separating documented evidence from speculation and looking at the theories that have developed around one of America's most notorious unsolved murders. At the centre of all the theories, documentaries and decades of speculation remains the same fact: JonBenét Ramsey was a six-year-old girl whose murder remains officially unsolved. This is Killers, Cults & Queens. ⚠️ This episode discusses the murder of a child and contains disturbing subject matter. Listener discretion is advised. Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey? The Suspects & Shocking Confessions | Part 3
Who killed JonBenét Ramsey? In Part Three of our deep dive into one of the most notorious unsolved murder cases in modern history, Nikki and Cheryl examine the suspects, theories and bizarre confessions surrounding the murder of six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey. From the intruder theory and the strange circumstances surrounding the ransom note, to the people investigated by police and the suspects who later inserted themselves into the case, we look at some of the most widely discussed possibilities surrounding JonBenét's death. We examine the claims surrounding Gary Oliva, whose possession of images of JonBenét and later confession brought renewed attention to him, as well as John Mark Karr, who claimed he had murdered JonBenét before DNA evidence ultimately ruled him out. But the investigation eventually comes back to the Ramsey family themselves. We look at the questions surrounding John Ramsey's actions on the morning JonBenét was found, the contamination of the crime scene, the family's interviews with investigators and the various theories that have circulated about what may have happened inside the Ramsey home. And just when you think we're reaching the end of the case… we're not. This was supposed to be a three-part series. It has now become four. ⚠️ This episode discusses the murder of a child, sexual abuse and other disturbing subject matter. Listener discretion is advised. JonBenét Ramsey: A Suspicious Crime Scene & Shocking Evidence | Part 2
The investigation into the murder of six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey continues in Part Two of our deep dive into one of the most infamous unsolved true crime cases in history. In this episode of Killers, Cults & Queens, Nikki and Cheryl return to Boulder, Colorado, in the aftermath of JonBenét's murder on Boxing Day 1996. What should have been a straightforward investigation into a kidnapping quickly became a murder investigation — but the crime scene had already been seriously compromised. We look at the Ramsey family, the backgrounds of John, Patsy and Burke Ramsey, and the events surrounding the discovery of JonBenét's body. We also examine the ransom note found inside the family home, including the bizarre $118,000 demand that matched John Ramsey's Christmas bonus, and why investigators questioned whether it was really written by a kidnapper. We also delve into JonBenét Ramsey's autopsy findings, the clothing and DNA evidence, the fibres discovered on the duct tape, the mysterious pineapple found in her stomach, and the problems created when family members, friends and police moved around the house before the crime scene could be properly secured. With the evidence seemingly pointing in different directions, investigators were left facing two competing possibilities: was JonBenét killed by someone inside the Ramsey family, or was there an intruder who entered the house that night? And as the investigation develops, the Ramsey family find themselves increasingly at the centre of suspicion while continuing to insist that an intruder was responsible. This is Part Two of our four-part JonBenét Ramsey series. In Part Three, we begin working through the suspects, intruder theories, false confessions and DNA developments that have kept this case in the public eye for decades. ⚠️ CONTENT WARNING: This episode discusses the murder of a child, graphic injuries and potential sexual abuse.
