Indigenous Wisdom Archetypes: The Seer and Their Peeps

Some archetypes can be cultivated. The Seer cannot — they arrive this way already, walking with their peeps, and stay that way their whole life. Julia Carmen returns to the archetype series with the Seer and their Peeps: those born already balancing the physical and non-physical worlds, in a constant, ever-flowing motion that never looks for a point of reference — because in the physical there isn't one. "Peeps" is Julia's generic word for whatever your own tradition calls this crew: ancestors, guides, angels, four-legged and winged ones — the group each Seer comes in with and walks beside for life. The Seer holds their past lives the way most of us can't: fully understood, never carried. They aren't leaders and they aren't followers, and their energy moves like a colorful, DNA-like spiral — unique to each person, the way no two snowflakes match. Unlike most archetypes in this series, the Seer can't be cultivated into. You either come in this way, or you don't. Their companion is Mother Dragonfly: inside of me is your life... you see, you are the mother — which Julia clarifies isn't literal parenthood, but the mother within yourself, the one doing the creating. If this isn't your archetype, look around — chances are good there's a Seer already in your life. Trust the quiet, still voice. That's how you'll know. Indigenous Wisdom Conversations: Tending the Casita with Juliana Guerrero

What is a casita, really — and what happens when it gets crowded with somebody else's stuff? Julia Carmen sits down again with her granddaughter Juliana Guerrero for another J&J, sparked by a question Juliana asked after their overculture conversation. A casita isn't a house — it's the place within each of us connected to the Soul Self of Being, what Julia has also called the little blue light since Juliana was small. It's a homing pigeon: wherever you go, it says, this is you. The two talk through what happens when a casita gets neglected or overrun with other people's stuff, and how Juliana found her way back to hers after a dark stretch in high school — asking herself what she actually wanted, rather than what she was told to want. Julia shares the question a friend once asked her that changed how she guards her own casita: if someone knocked at your door, would you just let them in? Boundaries, they agree, are a form of care, not withholding — and Julia is direct that if what you're carrying is more than a casita can hold on its own, get the professional support you need. Juliana offers her own tending practice — sun, a walk, a good cry, writing it down. Julia pulls a dragonfly card live on air with a message for anyone listening: rest in the sleep of yourself, and know that how will show itself in its own time. Indigenous Wisdom Archetypes: The Seeables

What if the child in your life who doesn't quite fit the mold was never a mystery to solve, but an angel you were chosen to guide? Julia Carmen returns to the monthly archetype series with the Seeables — the new babies being born now, angels who have never taken human form before. They see without the veil: no past lives, no future to hold onto, only the Now, known within itself. They need guidance from the humans raising them, and the relationship runs both directions — as we help a Seeable learn to be human, they awaken us to the soul self, the alma of being. Julia shares something pointed for the parents, tías, tíos, and grandparents raising a Seeable while carrying their own ancestral wounds: these children did not come here to heal you. They came because they are love, unconditional love, here to walk beside you. The companion for this archetype is the Night Rainbow dragonfly, carried by Makua, the male healer: be not afraid of the night, because that is when the rainbow shows its truth. He hides from the all until we're ready to see him, and shows himself only to the brave who move into the night of self. Share this with someone raising a little one who sees. Indigenous Wisdom Conversations: What the Body Knows with Catherine Gairard

What happens to the parts of us that don't go away when someone we love leaves? This is Part Two of Julia Carmen's conversation with Catherine Gairard, harpist and musician carrying a lineage both French and Peruvian. Catherine's mother passed away earlier this year, and what she's experienced since isn't grief in the usual sense. Julia meets her here freshly grieving her own loss, and shares a moment of very human, unscripted grief of her own. Together, they explore knowing the truth of the soul self doesn't cancel out the body's need to feel its pain. Indigenous Wisdom Archetypes: The Bastards

What if the thing that makes you feel like the odd one out is actually your royalty? In this month's archetype episode, Julia Carmen sits with the "Bastards" — and puts the name in quotes on purpose. The dictionary root simply means something of a different shape or size than usual for its kind. Different from the mold, and nothing more. The Bastards are solid and unmovable, like a warrior — the pillars who hold up the king and the queen, taking on the frequency and vibration of whoever they support. Julia shares a story from a retreat in Montana, where her granddaughter Juliana was identified as a lead Bastard and was, at first, genuinely upset by the word. Months later, working through what the archetype meant, she made changes in her life she never thought she'd make. The teaching underneath it: the Bastards think they're the outsiders, the ones set apart. That feeling is an illusion — they are from royalty. Discernment goes both ways, and the Bastard's work is turning it inward, toward their own worth. The companion for this episode is the Jasper dragonfly, a rascal, a coyote, the Trickster, whose message is simple: go ahead and chase me, you'll never catch me, but you can try. If you've ever felt like the different shape, the odd one out — the invitation is to see the royalty in you. The different shape was never a flaw. It's the blueprint. Indigenous Wisdom Conversations: The Soul Beneath the Overculture with Juliana Guererro

Where did the word "overculture" come from — and why do we still need it? In this J&J conversation, Julia Carmen and her granddaughter Juliana Guerrero trace the word back to Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés (Women Who Run With the Wolves) and Dr. Magda Permut's essay "On Overculture." Together they define it: whatever dominant force runs a family, a classroom, or a country — the hierarchy everyone quietly agrees to without questioning. Juliana, a high school teacher, uses the word with her students to talk about colonization. Julia shares the overculture she grew up inside — one that dictated marrying young and starting a family early — and reads a poem she wrote, "The Me and the Others," about being a fair-skinned Mexicana whose own brown children have called her a "white Mexican." They close on what it costs to keep explaining yourself so others feel comfortable, and where that explaining should end. The overculture didn't invent us, and it doesn't get the last word — underneath it is the Indigenous soul, older than any grid placed over it. Indigenous Wisdom Archetypes: The Lovers

What if the Lovers were never about who they see, but who they've forgotten to look at — themselves? In this month's archetype episode, Julia Carmen sits with the Lovers, and the first thing she does is set down the assumption — this archetype isn't about romance. It's about unconditional love, for self and for others. A Lover is always balanced, made up of a divine heart and a soul — an alma. They know how to self-soothe, and they know what they want, always. This love isn't something to obtain, Julia teaches — it's already inside. Archetypes come from the nonphysical realm of being, where there's no right or wrong, only frequency and vibration. Like fish that don't know they're in water, we often don't recognize we're already swimming in it. What stands in the way is judgment — the judgment we hold of ourselves. Soul work is remembrance, not reinvention. The companion for this episode is the Kissing dragonfly, and their message is playful, a little cheeky: Yes is the answer. Kiss me once, kiss me twice, then kiss me once again. It's been a long, long time since you did that. Kiss your own life again. Indigenous Wisdom Conversations: The Voice You Already Have with Julie Williams

What does it take to trust a yes before the mind can explain it? Julie Williams — scientist, healer, educator, and founder of Consciousness Medicine — returns to the show. Along with their conversation today, Julie tells us about her new book, Om La La: The Power of Positivity Guidebook, a collaboration with twenty-four authors and featuring a forward from Julia. Julie and Julia talk about how Julie actually knows what's true for her — a kinesthetic yes that starts low in the belly — and about Gabe, Julie's dog of eighteen years, to whom the book is dedicated. Her chapter, "My Dog Is My Guru," traces a family constellation session where Gabe's presence, brought in as a resource, shifted the whole room. From there, the conversation widens: what women build with each other that's hard to build elsewhere, why "why" keeps you circling a problem while "what if" opens a door, and the four principles Julie calls the power of positivity — presence, perception, possibility, and practice. Indigenous Wisdom Stories: Going for the Tamales

What does it mean when someone we love doesn't come back right away — and no one panics? Julia Carmen shares a fable from her mother's village in the mountains of Mexico, where messages traveled in the bodies of people — usually children — because there were no phones. When a child came home late from an errand, no one scolded her. The family just smiled and said, "she went for the tamales." Julia traces the phrase through three generations, grandmother to mother to daughter, and asks the question this episode turns on: what are your tamales? What absorbs you so fully that time disappears — and is that a problem, or is that the medicine? Find your tamales. Not to escape the task, but to stay alive to what's actually here. Indigenous Wisdom Archetypes: The Sensitives

What does it mean to feel everything? In this month's archetype episode, Julia Carmen sits with the Sensitives — the ones with the big human hearts, who feel from the earth all the way to the universal source of the all. She opens by drawing a line many of us blur: a Sensitive isn't the same as an empath. Empathy is a human condition, tied to this planet. The Sensitive reaches further — earth to universe. The teaching turns on stardust. We're all made of it, surrounded by it — and a Sensitive picks up more of other people's than they need to. Three things every Sensitive must establish: boundaries, center, and balance, and all three are deeply personal. Julia shares her own toolkit — a warm shower to release what isn't hers, burning sage, calling the wind for a "swipe," a hot bath, a good meal, dancing, a few minutes on a mini trampoline. The companion for this episode is the Crying dragonfly, and her message flips crying on its head: the falling stars are not crying. Make your presence known. Stay in the awareness of you. Cry for joy. For a being who feels everything, the feeling itself is never the problem. Indigenous Wisdom Archetypes: The Healer

What holds the healer together? In this month's archetype episode, Julia Carmen sits with the Healer — the curandera, the servant, the teacher — and follows the teaching back to where it has always begun: with yourself. The Healer's energy flows like an atom, putting the stardust back together wherever it needs to be. Their medicine bag holds all the elements — water, fire, earth — because the path of healing draws from all of life. And the first thing Julia names is what this archetype is not: the one who goes out there and fixes everyone else first. The medicine has to live in you before it can move through you. You cannot give from an empty vessel. Three movements shape the teaching: how the Healer heals others, how the Healer heals themselves, and how the Healer connects with the world. Julia holds space for the Healers who give and give and forget to receive. Boundaries here are clarity, not withholding. Resentment is a signal. The invitation is always to come home to yourself first. The Jade Dragonfly is the companion: *Health is yours today. Let the healing begin. Healing from the inside out. Take your time to heal. Wear jade. Be the jade.* Learn more about The School Without Walls and the Dragonfly Guides: Get your free guide: 10 Questions to Ask Your Soul Self Enroll in The Magical Papers Schedule a free Cafecito y Chisme Call with Julia Explore The School Without Walls Production assistance from Podlad.com and Daypack Digital. Indigenous Wisdom Conversations: The Female Frequency of Being with Juliana Guerrero

What changes the day you stop asking someone else for the answer and finally ask yourself? In the second of a two-part conversation, Julia Carmen sits back down with her granddaughter, Juliana Guerrero, and follows the thread back to ancestors, heritage, and what Julia calls the female frequency of being — the creative force that makes and remakes the world, squashed for a long time and now waking back up. At the heart of the episode is a story Juliana has carried for years: leading a group to a ceremony site in Montana, losing the way, and finding it again only when she stopped, breathed, and followed a little girl down a lavender trail — running like she had run her whole life. Watching from a distance, Julia's sister saw a white-tailed deer where Juliana stood. Julia names what that is: a witness, so we can trust that what we felt was real. They close in the practice of it — soul listening, stillness, community, and Juliana's turn toward asking herself instead of always asking her grandmother. You are the genius of you. Be still, and listen. This completes the two-part conversation that began in Episode 172. Indigenous Wisdom Conversations: Walking Both Worlds and the Now of Life with Juliana Guerrero

What did the word "woke" mean before the over culture got hold of it? In this conversation, Julia Carmen sits down with her granddaughter, Juliana Guerrero — high school English teacher, writer, and curandera in her own right — for one of the talks they share a few times a year. They begin with that one loaded word and the difference between its political version and the older one: the meaning that lived in us first. Not awakening for the first time, but remembering what we already are in the soul self of being. From there: what it takes to stay awake when the world keeps pulling us back to sleep. Juliana, three years into teaching high school English, talks about the "iPad generation," the decline in critical thinking, and children who only know how to communicate through a screen. Together they name what that costs — and the medicine that answers it: Chi Chi soul time, kindness to yourself, boundaries, and community, because we cannot do this alone. This is Part One of a two-part conversation. Next time, Julia and Juliana sit with heritage and the female frequency of being. Indigenous Wisdom Stories: What the Dragonflies Asked Her to Hold

What does it mean to walk in both worlds when the outer culture keeps pulling you toward one? A listener sent that question in. Julia Carmen answered it live — by pulling a card. In this episode, Julia traces the full origin of the Dragonfly Card Deck: a vision that arrived in Hawaii nearly twenty years ago, fifty-two channeled texts, and a long journey to physical form. She walks through how she works with the cards in daily practice — not looking for answers, but for orientation — and pulls Grandmother Dragonfly live to address the listener's question. The deck pairs with the archetype series but stands completely on its own. Julia also shares details about a June 24th gathering — an intimate card deck session open to anyone who feels the call to experience this work in community. Indigenous Wisdom Archetypes: The Wizard

What do people sense in a Wizard — before they can name it? In this episode, Julia Carmen continues the 2026 Archetype Series with the Wizard: an archetype that lives at the intersection of the seen and unseen, moving between worlds with a subtlety that is easy to miss and impossible to forget once you feel it. The Wizard moves and balances. People are drawn to them without quite knowing why. Julia describes a childlike quality — a playfulness, a full arrival in the present moment. The magic is not grand. It is specific to you: your frequency, your fingerprint. The companion guide for this archetype is the Magical Wizard Dragonfly, whose message is simple: "Just for today, and only today, make your magic. It is within you. You see, there is only today." Your magic is not someday. It is now. Discover your own Archetype in The Magical Papers Workshop, on demand at theschoolwithoutwalls.net. Indigenous Wisdom Stories: Mothers Give Us Life Twice

What do you do with the love that didn't always come in the form you needed? Twenty years ago, Julia Carmen wrote an essay about being asked to care for her 80-year-old mother. She didn't want to do it. She called her sister. She briefly considered trading mothers with a friend. What followed those four days — and the fifteen years after — became one of the most profound teachings of her life. In this episode, Julia reads that essay in full, then reflects on everything that came next: how she and her mother slowly found each other, the soul work of walking two worlds at once, and the ceremony Julia performed to help her mother rebirth — and go back home. She shares the story of Las Mañanitas, the Mexican birthday song her mother sang to her every year at 5 AM, and what she finally understood it was saying. Julia's mother passed in 2019 at the age of 95. This episode is a love letter to her — and to anyone still working out what to do with everything their mother gave them. "Mothers give us life twice, if we are lucky. Once when we are born. Once when they leave us." This episode was first released as Episode 109: My 80 Year Old Mother. We're bringing it back because these questions don't belong to any one season. Indigenous Wisdom Stories: A Place to Just Be

Today, Julia revisits one of her most cherished stories: a memory from 1957 in the Mission District of San Francisco, when she was four or five years old and her Tía Francisca was living with the family. This is a story about what happens when two people show up in a kitchen with a willingness to just be. No fixing, no pretending. Julia talks about soul care—not the Instagram version with bath bombs, but real tending. The kind that happens when you're known, your whole self, the grief and the giggles and the messy parts in between. Julia also opens about belonging—what it means to really belong somewhere, not just show up and be tolerated. And she shares what the School Without Walls is building: a space where you can come as you are and be held. Julia also shares this reflection which pairs with today's episode: On the day we held the service for my Tia Francisca, it was a beautiful day but I was feeling very heavy in my heart. As we were going into the chapel, I saw what I first thought was a huge bird, but it was a Blue Dragonfly. So today, I want to share with you Blue Dragonfly's message that I heard on that day: Hey Mija, Do you really think we have left you behind? Do you really think we do not guard you? Listen to me. You are loved beyond any love you could imagine. Have faith in yourself and in us that all is working out for your good and happiness. That sure sounds like something my Tia Francisca would say. Indigenous Wisdom Archetypes: Mother Earth

This month in our archetype series, Julia sits with Mother Earth. Julia explores what it actually means to carry this energy—the gift of it, the weight of it—and how Grandmother Dragonfly shows up as a companion for this archetype. She talks about the difference between nurturing from fullness versus nurturing from depletion, the "spaghetti dinner" moment when you realize you're running on empty, and why soul care isn't selfish—it's essential. If you're a Mother Earth archetype, you'll recognize yourself in these stories: how people trust you without knowing why, how your presence shifts a room without needing to announce yourself, and why you keep saying yes to everyone even after you've said yes to yourself. Julia challenges those who lead with this archetype to ask themselves: What would it look like to let yourself be held the way you hold others? Indigenous Wisdom Conversations: Sound as Inheritance with Catherine Gairard (Part One)

What does it mean to own something you made — in a world where anything digital can be copied in an instant? And what does that question have to do with the music your ancestors carried? In this episode, Julia Carmen sits down with Catherine Gairard, a French-Peruvian harpist and songwriter who creates what she calls emotive landscapes — music designed to reach the places words can't always find. They begin in the practical, discussing digital art and why proof of ownership matters more to small, independent artists than most people realize. But the conversation doesn't stay there. It moves — the way good music does — into something deeper: cultural inheritance, the difference between forgiveness and ongoing harm, and what it really means to carry a lineage forward rather than be weighed down by it. And then there's sound itself. Catherine breaks down the science of healing frequencies — why 432 Hz feels different in your body than 440 Hz, why you don't just hear with your ears, and why the idea that music "goes through you" is not metaphor. It's physics. This one starts in the practical and walks right into the sacred. Listen in today and join us in the future as Julia continues the conversation with Catherine in a powerful Part Two. Self Discovery & Soul Care: The Alma Class

In this episode, Julia Carmen introduces the Alma Class: a year-long container for those who are hearing the knock—that inner call to come home to themselves. This is not a curriculum. It's a remembrance. The Alma Class is for anyone who has felt that movement within, that sense that something deeper is asking to be known. Julia talks about what soul listening actually is, how the archetypes guide your own remembrance, and why this work cannot be rushed or done alone. She shares what you receive as part of the class—quarterly group sessions, one-on-one time with Julia, access to the Dragonfly Messenger readings, the Dragonfly 52 card deck, early access to retreats, and most importantly, real time with Julia focused entirely on you and your soul self.
