Texas Just Changed the Rules for Bitcoin Miners

Texas is ending 4CP. The incentive that saved flexible miners roughly $50,000 per MW per year is likely in its final season, and ERCOT is moving toward 12CP by 2028. Haley Thomson, Director of Energy at Luxor, explains what that means for Bitcoin miners and who ends up paying for the grid.Haley breaks down how 4CP actually works, why firm loads are pushing for change, and how 18+ GW of new battery storage has compressed capacity prices across ERCOT. We also cover why Bitcoin mining is close to the perfect grid-balancing load, how batteries and miners compare as grid assets, and how Luxor performed what's likely the first 4CP curtailment of GPUs in ERCOT.We also walk through the Luxor Energy dashboard live, from tracking load against breakeven to iMiner underclocking, 4CP buffer settings and what it really costs to be online during a peak. At the time of recording, 4CP season 2026 was likely already over. This episode is not sponsored by Luxor. Nothing discussed is financial advice. This Is the "Polymarket" for Bitcoin Miners

Matteo Spinosa, founder and CEO of Doefin, built the first accessible prediction market for Bitcoin miners to hedge difficulty. Doefin lets miners and traders take a directional view on network hashrate — or lock in revenue certainty before difficulty spikes — using a Polymarket-style venue where price equals probability. In this episode, Matteo breaks down why Bitcoin miners have historically been unbankable and uninvestable: difficulty volatility has run twice as volatile as the S&P 500, making cash flow impossible to forecast. Doefin gives miners a primitive tool to stabilize revenue, or to speculate on where hashrate is going. We cover how the Oracle works (SHA-256 validation of Bitcoin block headers, secured by the network itself), why settlement is non-custodial via cbBTC on Base, and how a miner can hedge a specific amount of petahash against a difficulty increase. Matteo also walks through a live demo of the platform, explains the "For Miners" hedging tool, and shares why Doefin stays out of scope regulation-wise with legal opinions in the UK and Mauritius. Doefin launched to the public one week before recording, already has seven miners trading (roughly 0.15 BTC in volume), and is building toward a full forward curve for hashrate. This Bitcoin Boiler Pays for Itself in 2 Years

Elmeri Suomi runs a heating company that happens to mine Bitcoin. His product, the SunBit Bitcoin Boiler, drops one or two hydro-cooled ASICs into a water tank, heats a house to 60°C, and lets the mining revenue pay the power bill — in the best case leaving the homeowner in profit on their heating. He started in water-to-air heat pump sales, began mining as a hobby in 2020, and founded SunBit in 2023 once the two worlds clicked. In this episode we get into the economics that make consumer-scale mining work at 7–12¢/kWh power: not fat mining margins, but offsetting an oil bill that can run 3,500 litres a year at €1.80/litre. Elmeri walks through the ROI (two years best case, five years worst), why he explains everything in cents per kWh instead of hashprice, and how spot-price optimisation and solar over-production feed into the tank. We also cover why he abandoned immersion after too much grey hair — dissolved cooling paste, dead S21s and oil everywhere — and landed on hydro; why the boxes are Antminers, not Whatsminers (60°C is all you need once you're past Legionella at 52–55°C); the 3×25A wiring that lets it fit a normal Finnish home; the first installs in Kotka and Nokia plus the first international job in the Netherlands; and the pre-seed raise now funding a 100 kW industrial version. Zcash Miners Earn 7x Bitcoin's Revenue. But There's a Catch. [NEWS]

Hash price is holding at elevated levels, but Bitcoin mining is entering a very different kind of market. Public miners are shedding hashrate, AI infrastructure keeps absorbing power, and for the first time in years the network may be facing a genuine period of declining hashrate. In this news roundup: Zcash mining economics are exploding as Z15 Pros generate multiples of current Bitcoin mining revenue, Tether walks away from a $120M mining investment in Uruguay after a power dispute, Bitdeer approaches 9% of Bitcoin block rewards, and AWS + Nvidia plan another 2 million GPUs as AI infrastructure keeps expanding. We also look at Sweden's VAT crackdown on crypto miners, Bitdeer's $100M Texas land acquisition for AI/HPC expansion, Canaan pausing mining operations in Ethiopia, and Demand's new Stratum V2 transaction acceleration model that could change how mining pools compete for hashrate. The bigger question: if AI keeps winning the competition for power in developed markets, where does Bitcoin mining go next — and what happens when pools have to fight over a shrinking hashrate pie? 🛠 Sponsored by: Altair Technology — ASIC hardware, replacement parts & mining infrastructure Code: HASHRATEUP https://altairtech.io/aff/125/ Luxor — Mining software, firmware & hashrate tools https://luxor.tech/ Timestamps: 0:00 Intro — Hash price & difficulty outlook 1:22 Zcash mining surge — Z15 Pro economics 4:43 Tether's $120M Uruguay mining bet collapses 7:04 Sponsor: Altair Technology 7:30 Bitdeer nears 9% of Bitcoin block rewards 8:00 AWS + Nvidia plan another 2 million GPUs 8:48 Bitcoin miners outperform the AI trade 9:32 Sweden's VAT crackdown on crypto miners 11:52 Bitdeer buys 200 acres in Texas for AI/HPC expansion 12:42 $31.6T projected data center spending through 2050 14:05 Sponsor: Luxor 14:40 Public miners shed 56 EH/s as AI retrofits accelerate 15:12 Canaan pauses Bitcoin mining operations in Ethiopia 16:04 Demand brings transaction acceleration to Stratum V2 17:14 Bitcoin's first declining-hashrate environment 17:58 Final thoughts & mining market opportunities 📊 HashrateUp Hardware Deals: https://t.me/hashrateup 📩 Free 5-Day Bitcoin Mining Course: https://hashrateup.com/newsletter-sign-up/ #BitcoinMining #HashPrice #Zcash #ArtificialIntelligence #BitcoinHashrate #Bitdeer #Tether #DataCenter #StratumV2 #MiningPool #BitcoinNews #HashrateUp

They Could Have Built This Years Ago. Nobody Did.

Michael Schmidt, better known as Schnitzel, bought a hundred S19J Pros for $40 each. Machines that used to cost $15,000. He's bringing them back with open-source firmware he built in his garage, with help from an AI agent and about eight burned hashboards along the way. Michael is one of the lead engineers at the 256 Foundation, and he's back on the show to talk about Magina. It's an open-source firmware that does things Braiins, Luxor, Vnish and stock firmware simply won't. You can ramp a miner from 3,000W down to 1,000W in three to five seconds, where other firmware takes half an hour. You can follow a live solar curve. And you can run hashboards from completely different machines together in one rig, which no proprietary firmware will let you do. We talk about why nobody built any of this before, why the 256 Foundation wants open rigs but not open chips, and what happened when Michael handed an AI agent an S19 and a power meter and told it to figure things out. We also get into why your miner's power API is lying to you about wattage, what he learned from destructive testing across eight different hashboard variants, and where he thinks this all goes over the next two or three years. 👤 Guest: Michael Schmidt (Schnitzel), Lead Engineer at the 256 Foundation 256 Foundation: https://www.256foundation.org Follow on X: https://x.com/schnitzel Timestamps: 0:00 Intro: Schnitzel, Teddy the Swiss mountain dog & proof of dog 3:04 The 256 Foundation: Libreboard, Ember One, Magina & Hydro Pool 4:13 Heat reuse goes commercial: the Swiss solar monetization project 5:00 The solar problem: chasing a production curve that never sits still 5:31 Why existing firmware takes 30 minutes to change wattage 6:35 Why nobody built sub-minute ramping before (and why it isn't malicious) 9:18 Proprietary hardware: the tire manufacturer who only sells whole cars 10:57 Open rigs, not open chips: what the 256 Foundation actually wants 13:52 What Magina is and how it differs from Braiins, Luxor & Vnish 15:06 Handing an AI agent an S19 and a Shelly power meter 17:03 Zero to 500 MHz: the board that died and the ramping fix 19:21 Destructive testing: 8 hashboard variants in a single S19J Pro 20:22 Physical vs digital: 2,900W on the API, 0W on the wall 22:10 Microphones, temp sensors and eight burned boards 24:13 Why the power API guesses, and why the PSU already knows 27:09 S19J + S19K on one control board: 130 TH/s from mismatched hardware 31:30 Building a Frankenstein miner from two dead machines 32:25 The $40 miner renaissance and bringing dead hardware back 34:04 Magina on a Canaan Nano, Proto chips and the wildfire moment 35:08 Get involved: dev calls, donations and hardware you're not using 🛠 Sponsored by: Luxor. Old ASICs, $0.058 Power & a 50/50 Profit Split w/ Ben Smith

Most people scrap their old ASICs, ship them overseas, or let them gather dust. Ben Smith (Bear Market Mining) offers a fourth option: profit-split hosting that keeps end-of-life machines online in the US. Ben joins me — you can hear the miners running in the background — to break down the model he built at his Walnut Ridge site: a 5.8¢/kWh all-in rate, a straight 50/50 split of net profit after power (60/40 on S21s), no deposits, no rack fees, and no long-term lock-in. We get into why he'd rather stack the Bitcoin than take your dollars, the 10,000-unit S19 redeployment that inspired the whole idea, why he doesn't think hashprice climbs back to $80, how he keeps six-year-old machines alive with a wall of spare parts and Braiins firmware, exactly how the pool split is calculated every 30 days, and his hard-won take on immersion cooling (spoiler: 180 machines still sit in his bath). Plus the hydro build, dry coolers running in 110°F heat, and the too-cold startup problem nobody warns you about. 👤 Guest: Ben Smith — Founder, Bear Market Mining (President, Arkansas Blockchain Council) Bear Market Mining: https://bmmining.tech Optimization Calculator: https://bmmining.tech/optimization.html Schedule a Consultation: https://bmmining.tech/apply.html Contact: ben@bmmining.tech Timestamps: 0:00 Intro — end-of-life ASICs and the profit-split pitch 5:00 Walnut Ridge: from immersion to air to hydro 10:30 The profit-share model — 5.8¢ all-in and why Ben stacks BTC over dollars 16:30 Redeploying dead fleets: the 10,000-unit S19 second-life story 23:00 Profit-split incentives: downside protection vs giving up upside 29:30 Why Ben doesn't think hashprice hits $80 again (Rockdale, difficulty, the bull case) 36:00 The construction side: 200 MW built + becoming Arkansas' #2 power buyer 42:00 Running old units: free part swaps, Braiins firmware & underclocking 47:30 How the split actually works: Braiins pool, 30-day cycle, power paid first 52:00 Full deal terms: no deposits, no rack fee — just ship it 57:00 Hydro infrastructure, dry coolers & the too-cold startup problem 1:01:00 Immersion reality check: why 180 machines still sit in the bath 🛠 Sponsored by: Luxor — Mining pool, firmware, hardware trading & hashrate tools https://luxor.tech/ Altair Technology — ASIC hardware, replacement parts & mining infrastructure Code: HASHRATEUP https://altairtech.io/aff/125/ 📊 HashrateUp Hardware Deals: https://t.me/hashrateup 📩 Free 5-Day Bitcoin Mining Course: https://hashrateup.com/newsletter-sign-up/ #BitcoinMining #ProfitSplitHosting #BitcoinHosting #ASIC #S19 #HydroCooling #BearMarket #Braiins #MiningPool #Arkansas #EndOfLifeASIC #Bitcoin #HashrateUp

Bitcoin's Back - Miners Are Quitting for AI Anyway [NEWS]

Bitcoin's back above $70K and hash price ripped more than 10% — from the lows of $31 all the way to $35. Great news for anyone running machines. But public miners are still dismantling capacity to chase AI money, and this may be the first true hashrate bear market ever. Why BIP-110 Was Dead on Arrival w/ Chris

Bitcoin nearly split in two. On BIP110 activation day, a chain split actually happened — and almost nobody noticed. Coinjoined Chris (Seedor, Bitsurance) joins me to break down what BIP110 really was, why it was dead on arrival with under 6% real node support and near-zero hashrate, and what it teaches us about how consensus in Bitcoin actually gets decided. His Energy Cost Is NEGATIVE 2.67¢/kWh w/ Bipin Patel

Bitcoin mining can be more than a 24/7 race for cheap power. In this episode, I sit down with Bipin Patel, CEO of Flexionics, to talk about how their team uses Bitcoin mining infrastructure as a flexible energy asset in Sweden. The interesting part is the framing: Flexionics does not primarily think of itself as a Bitcoin miner, but as an energy company, and even more specifically, as an energy security company. We get into frequency regulation, why older ASICs can make sense when uptime is intentionally low, how the economics compare with batteries, and why flexible load may become more important as renewable generation and AI data centers put more pressure on grids. 🔗 GUEST LINKS: Bipin Patel on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/bipincpatel/ 🛠 Sponsored by: Luxor, Mining software, firmware & hashrate tools https://luxor.tech/ Altair Technology, ASIC hardware, replacement parts & mining infrastructure Code: HASHRATEUP https://altairtech.io/aff/125/ Timestamps: 0:00 Intro 0:44 Flexionics as an energy company, not just a miner 2:44 Turning mining sites into frequency regulation assets 4:44 Sweden, regulation, and the perception problem around Bitcoin mining 6:44 Energy-first operations versus 24/7 mining 8:44 Why older ASICs can work in a flexible-load model 9:45 Sponsor: Altair 10:15 Explaining the model to investors 14:13 Why miners and energy investors both struggle with the story 16:43 Grid instability, renewables, and the Iberia blackout discussion 19:13 Bitcoin mining as energy security infrastructure 21:43 Flexible demand as the missing customer for stranded and curtailed power 24:10 Bitcoin's global market as a unique buyer of last resort 26:41 Sponsor: Luxor 27:12 Flexionics economics: capacity revenue plus hash revenue 29:39 Revenue per MW and comparison with batteries 32:59 Hashprice, AI demand, and upside scenarios 37:09 What happens if hashprice goes much higher 39:39 Flexionics sites, 30 MW expansion, and heat reuse 41:09 Wrap-up 📊 HashrateUp Hardware Deals: https://t.me/hashrateup 📩 Free 5-Day Bitcoin Mining Course: https://hashrateup.com/newsletter-sign-up/

Raphael Zagury — co-founder & CEO of Elektron Energy, one of the largest private Bitcoin miners in the world — explains why they're doing the exact opposite. We break down the first-ever hash rate bear market: why this cycle feels different, why hash rate has been grinding down since October (not crashing like the China ban), and what happens when 60-70% of machines get wiped out at the next hashprice halving. Raphael makes the contrarian case that right now is one of the best times ever to start mining — if you can survive on the left side of the cost curve. We also get into why Elektron refuses to pivot to AI/HPC, how they pitch mining to institutions like Fidelity, the self-correcting mechanism in hashprice, and why stranded energy in Brazil and Africa is the real opportunity nobody's pricing in. ⏱ TIMESTAMPS 0:00 – Intro 0:47 – World Cup, bear markets & Bitcoin cycles 2:49 – The first-ever hash rate bear market explained 3:36 – How this affects one of the largest private miners 3:53 – Why this isn't the China ban (gradual grind vs sharp drop) 5:33 – Why miners are fleeing to AI/HPC 6:50 – Why Elektron sees this as an opportunity 8:19 – The risks in AI/HPC nobody is pricing 9:05 – Pitching mining to Fidelity & institutions 9:30 – Unit economics: mining is still profitable 10:32 – Cost curve & the self-correcting mechanism 11:14 – What happens when 60-70% of machines shut off 13:02 – Why institutions love contrarian miners 14:37 – The AI pivot & hash rate on the way back up 16:32 – When does mining beat just buying Bitcoin? 19:08 – Why this story is so hard to tell investors 20:25 – Market share, path dependency & hash rate dynamics 22:20 – Why now is one of the best times to start mining 22:45 – Capital & capital structure in mining 23:40 – Why the AI boom will boom and bust 24:19 – Building the optionality stack around energy 25:17 – Why AI/HPC innovation is still dangerously early 28:34 – electronics.dev: open-sourcing mining research 30:29 – The efficiency curve (log scale) explained 31:50 – Predicting the S23s with a regression line 32:14 – Why efficiency gains are about to flatten 32:42 – Network composition: S19s, S21s, S23s 33:38 – Machine-by-machine break-evens & cost to mine 34:58 – What a hashprice halving does to the network 36:11 – Summer heat & temperature-sensitive machines 36:36 – The shareholder-money era & underwater machines 40:17 – Stranded energy: wind in Brazil, curtailment credits 42:19 – Bitcoin's only customer is the protocol 42:39 – Old S19s at $30: 6-month ROI vs 10-year energy ROI 43:11 – Why Raphael is bullish on mining in Africa 47:28 – Speaking the language of energy & TradFi 48:08 – Batteries vs miners: a tenth of the capex 49:54 – "Buyers of last resort, sellers of first resort" 50:47 – RAPID FIRE: hashprice bottom, recycling, security & Brazil 📊 KEY TOPICS - The first hash rate bear market — gradual grind vs the China ban shock - Why 60-70% of machines could turn off at the next hashprice halving - The self-correcting mechanism in hashprice and the cost curve - Why Elektron refuses to pivot to AI/HPC (and the mispriced risks) - When mining beats simply buying Bitcoin - The efficiency curve flattening as R&D dries up - Stranded energy, curtailment & why Bitcoin is the most flexible load ever invented 🔗 RESOURCES 📊 HashrateUp Hardware Deals: https://t.me/hashrateup 📩 Free 5-Day Bitcoin Mining Course: https://hashrateup.com/newsletter-sign-up/ #BitcoinMining #HashRate #BearMarket #BitcoinVsAI #Mining #Elektron

Why Scandinavia Is Bitcoin Mining's Next Frontier w/ Lukas Pfeiffer

Lukas explains Gridmetry's flexibility-as-a-service model: qualifying miners for grid balancing markets, connecting steering software to site infrastructure, and running pre-qualification tests with regulators. Once live, miners can earn up to three separate revenue streams from a single megawatt hour — a 24/7 capacity fee for standing ready, payment for consuming power during negative price events, and Bitcoin mining itself. For some clients running older S19-class hardware, only 10% of income now comes from mining, with the rest from load balancing — at gross margins in the 60-70% range. The conversation covers what it takes to qualify for FCR, mFRR, and FFR markets in the Nordics, why older air-cooled miners often outperform the latest ASICs in these programs, and why GPU/AI compute can't yet replicate this model economically. Jesse and Lukas also dig into the biggest blocker to scaling in Europe — not politics, but capital and perception — and why Gridmetry is already the largest balancing provider by activated hours in Sweden's SE1 zone. They close with a rapid-fire round covering the best EU market for mining (Northern Sweden), why miners make better "batteries" than actual batteries, heat reuse vs. demand response, and Norway's ongoing Bitcoin mining moratorium. ⏱ TIMESTAMPS 0:00 – Intro 0:52 – Why Gridmetry focuses on Northern Europe 1:55 – State of the bear market & hash price at $30 4:07 – What Gridmetry does: flexibility-as-a-service explained 4:48 – Customer economics: demand response vs. heat reuse revenue 6:46 – Getting paid to be offline vs. mining at 95% uptime 7:40 – Three revenue streams from one megawatt hour 9:03 – How integration works for a mining farm 10:55 – Pricing model & pre-qualification process 11:44 – Requirements to qualify for demand response markets 12:42 – FCR, mFRR, FFR markets explained 13:23 – Preferred miner models (Bitmain, Canaan) 14:11 – Air-cooled vs. hydro-cooled fleets 14:27 – Can AI/GPU compute do the same? Starting with a breakdown of Luxor's full-stack platform (pool, firmware, hardware trading, hashrate forward contracts, and ERCOT power services), Kaan and Jesse dig into the hard numbers: Bitcoin price fell from a $125K all-time high to the low $60Ks, USD hashprice hit a fresh all-time low of $27.74/PH/day in June 2026, and network difficulty has now declined for the first-ever recorded bear market in hashrate — down 12.3% year-to-date after peaking in October 2025. The conversation shifts to forward markets, where Kaan unpacks two years of hashrate forward contract data — nearly $300M in trading volume in 2025 alone. The headline finding: every rolling hedge strategy, regardless of duration or denomination, has outperformed spot Bitcoin mining since the 2024 halving. Over the trailing 12 months specifically, dollar-denominated hedges beat spot by up to 9%, while Bitcoin-denominated hedges lagged — a direct result of the ongoing AI/HPC compute competition for power and its effect on network difficulty. Jesse and Kaan also debate why the forward market is currently pricing in a return to 1+ zettahash of network hashrate by October 2026, despite AI/HPC infrastructure buildout showing no signs of slowing — and close out with a look at ERCOT's 4CP summer curtailment season and its seasonal drag on difficulty. ⚠️ DISCLAIMER This content is for informational purposes only and should not be construed as legal, investment, financial, or other advice. Starting with an update on Wilson Mining's move from Iowa to Nebraska and where hashprice sits right now ($32/PH/day), Steven and Jesse get into the core idea: instead of selling mined Bitcoin every month to cover hosting bills, miners can borrow against their BTC holdings and pay operating expenses with the loan — keeping their Bitcoin in place while they wait for better prices. Using a real model (S21 Pro, 245T, hosted at 8¢/kWh, 4-year period, LTV capped at 15%), Steven walks through the numbers: without BLOC, a miner nets 0.02 BTC. With BLOC, that number jumps to 0.32 BTC — a 60% difference in final Bitcoin holdings, driven entirely by not being forced to sell during weak price periods. The conversation also covers why buying ASICs on credit is a bad idea (unlike BTC, they depreciate fast), how LTV and liquidation risk actually work, why rolling lines of credit (Strike-style) beat fixed 12-month loans, and how BLOC ties into US tax strategy for miners. Steven closes with rapid-fire advice on safe starting LTV, liquidation buffers, and the biggest mistake miners make with Bitcoin-backed loans. ⚠️ Neither Jesse nor Steven are financial advisors. Starting with a Hashrate Index update at $31.25/PH/day, Jesse walks through the -10% difficulty drop (with a +5.83% adjustment incoming), the 4CP season, and Texas summer curtailment driving the volatility. But the bigger story is structural: public miners are no longer maximizing hashrate at all costs — they're deciding how much of their power should stay on Bitcoin versus shift to AI and HPC. From there the episode opens into the policy and energy picture reshaping the industry: ERCOT's newly approved Batch Zero framework, 438 GW of data center interconnection requests (5x Texas's all-time peak demand), Microsoft's 2 GW West Texas AI campus, FERC ordering grid operators to fast-track large loads, and PJM's $23B warning as wholesale power costs jump 75% year over year. Plus Oman's mandatory national mining pool, Hive's $220M sovereign AI deal, and why Jesse thinks Luxor's forward hashrate market may be mispriced — a trade he's tempted to fade. The throughline: hashrate may simply not come back this cycle. As more companies pivot to AI, the miners who survive will be the ones who already think like power developers — and that power-first playbook is becoming a real competitive edge. ⏱ TIMESTAMPS 0:00 – Intro & Hashrate Index update — $31.25/PH/day 1:17 – 4CP season, Texas curtailment & the -10% difficulty drop 2:27 – The AI pivot: every article is an AI story 3:33 – ERCOT Batch Zero & 438 GW of data center requests 7:10 – Microsoft's 2GW West Texas AI campus & FERC fast-tracking 9:27 – Oman launches a mandatory national mining pool 11:09 – Sponsor: Luxor & the forward hashrate market 14:49 – Bitcoin miners, AI re-pricing & the first hashrate bear market 18:08 – Data centers blocked & PJM's $23B power cost warning 20:17 – The power-first playbook as a miner's edge 🔗 RESOURCES 📲 HashrateUp Hardware Deals (Telegram): https://t.me/hashrateup 📩 Learn Bitcoin Mining (Free 5-Day Course): https://hashrateup.com/newsletter-sign-up/ #BitcoinMining #Hashrate #AIPivot #ERCOT #Hashprice #HashrateUp

    Introducing My New Venture: Bushmining

🔗 Bush Mining: Website: https://bushmining.com In this episode of HashrateUp, Jesse introduces Bush Mining, his new venture with partner Conrad, and walks through the live pilot project: a hydro-powered farm in South Africa's Eastern Cape that turns stranded, wasted power into Bitcoin mining revenue. Jesse breaks down the flexible-compute model that makes it work: a site survey identifies surplus power, metering and load controllers measure what's truly available, and ASIC miners soak up only the stranded energy that would otherwise be dumped as heat. Local needs always come first, the load follows the site, and the system can switch off from full load to near-zero in under 0.4 seconds the moment power is needed elsewhere. The conversation then opens up into the bigger picture: why so much renewable generation goes to waste, and how flexible Bitcoin mining can make otherwise unviable energy projects pencil out. Whether you operate a farm with excess solar, sit on stranded hydro, or want to build an energy asset that nobody could justify before, this one shows how surplus power becomes income, fully scalable from a single machine to half a megawatt in a shipping container. Brad explains how Cholla, a three-generation oil & gas exploration company, turned its mining arm into an R&D lab for the wider industry: flexible-load curtailment in ERCOT's energy-only market, early bets on hydro and immersion cooling, and breaking even by mining only when power is cheap. The conversation then widens into the structural shift reshaping mining: pubcos liquidating fleets, megawatts and ASICs being lost to the AI pivot, and what that means for US hashrate.
