Ger Can Get It

Strange and Beautiful Network

After meeting our favorite actor in September of 2023 and COMPLETELY LOSING OUR MINDS (please send them our way if you find them), we (Meg and Rachel) set out to watch everything Geraint Wyn Davies (Nick in Forever Knight, king of the Stratford Theater Festival, and star of much, much, more) has ever been in— at least everything we can find. This isn’t a podcast; it’s an inoculation (so don’t be a narc— please don’t tell him we’re doing this).

Not My Department (1987)- Season 1, Ep 2-- "The Hand that Feeds" -- Morgan Simmons

Ger plays the hot, mean, brother of a lady who does....something for the Canadian government. Hilarity did not ensue, but we enjoyed his contribution to CanCon regardless. Dancing in the Dark (1995)-- Dr. Lambert

This was supposed to herald the beginning of our break, not the middle of it (oops). Anyways, please enjoy a Ger performance of surprising depth and power, hidden in a movie that asks, "What if your wife was sexually harassed by your father, AND YOU CHOSE TO SEND HER TO A MENTAL ASYLUM BECAUSE HER CRYING WAS CRAMPING YOUR STYLE?" PS The husband is supposed to be the hero in this. Buckle up, kids. We're still on break until probably mid-September. Go feed your Ger needs by seeing him in The Tempest in The Stratford Festival, now through October 24, 2026 (and also an Italian play called Saturday, Sunday, Monday). RoboCop the Series (1994)- Season 1, Ep 8 "Provision 22"-- Martin

This week: an older, better Robocop. Come for the inexplicable sexual tension between Ger's character, Martin, and his older-but-still-attractive co-worker, Lewis (har har); stay for the total lack of attempts to hide that this was filmed in Toronto with a predominantly Forever Knight-based cast. There's also a plucky 12 year old girl named Gadget! Tropical Heat (1991)- Season 1, Ep 8-- "For a Song"- Frank Halstead

Ger's character visits Florida to try to buy the rights to a song from a hapless British bartender and his hot ex-girlfriend. A man with a ponytail foils his evil deeds. This will become a theme in his career. Fun visual of the episode: he origamis himself a towel and makes out with extras for non-plot-related reasons. Pure gold, A+, would recommend. Catch Tropical Heat and the related documentary, Slaughter Nick for President on Tubi. Also, PS, we're still running the MS Society 5k until June 30, 2026. For the Record (1979)- Season 4, Ep 1-- "Cementhead" - Joey

This week: come for the homoerotic hockey adventures with a young Martin Short, stay for the ten-year-old boy who has unexplained ducks in his pants. I'm not giving you anything else. That's it. That's the show (Ger actually does show up in this episode, for about 4 minutes, in case you were worried we pulled another RoboCop fiasco). AS ALWAYS: we're still running the charity virtual 5k and raffle for the MS Society of Canada. If you want to buy a tshirt, click here and here; if you want to donate money click here, and if you want to enter the raffle, email proof of donation and proof that you walked your 5k to gercangetit@gmail.com, subject line "RAFFLE ENTRY." RoboCop: Prime Directives (Part One) (2001) [OOPS, NO GERS!]

This week, we cover the first half of the Robocop: Prime Directives tv mini-series of movie-length episodes from 2001. Sidestreet (1977)- Season 3, Ep 7- "Once a Hero" - Gary Simpson

This week: like Heated Rivalry mixed with Law and Order. No crimes are solved and nobody makes out in the locker room, but we do get existential despair and Ger punching himself in the face with a doorknob, so it's not a total loss. Also, since recording this, we found out that, much like how Ger was not actually an amazing male ballet dancer in Diamonds, he's also not an amazing hockey player/skater in Sidestreet. You know who WAS an amazing hockey player/skater? A YOUNG WAYNE GRETZKY. AMAZING. Famous athlete body doubles are now officially a new Geracteristic. For proof, check this CBC article out. Pavane (2008) AND In Their Shoes-- "The Loyalists" (1977)

Prepare for our most unhinged episode thus far, in which we discuss the 2008 short film Pavane, in which Ger plays a man who was maybe-definitely sexually assaulted as a pre-teen and now must wear Estelle Getty's glasses, and the 1977 episode "The Loyalists" from what I can only assume was a CBC Canadian history show called In Their Shoes, in which Ger plays a damned dirty American rebel right after the American Revolution. Thank God we no longer need live in fear of roving bands of "patriots" coming to rip people out of their beds in the name of America. </sarcasm> The article referenced talking about Pavane and the Moving Images Film Festival (RIP) is here. Tracker (2001)-- Zin (PART ONE)

UPDATE: Audio issues fixed! This week, we have the first part of our two-part discussion of Canadian science fiction tv show, Tracker! This show stars Adrian Paul's underwear bulge and, to a much, much lesser extent, the rest of Adrian Paul. Come for the eternal battle between an evil space alien scientist and the Chicago Department of Planning and Development (definitely not located in Toronto, how could you even insinuate that?); stay for Ger getting to/having to talk directly to a super-smart (in this case, alien) German Shepherd like that's a normal part of anyone's career. This is your fifth magical dog at this point, sir. What was going on??
