Feeling Things with Amy & Kat

Nashville Podcast Network

Feeling Things with Amy & Kat is a podcast for anyone who’s ever had feelings—or wants to. Hosted by Amy Brown and therapist Kat Van Buren, this is a space where nothing is off-limits. From deep reflections on childhood to pop culture obsessions to what’s happening in the world, all feelings deserve a seat at the table—big, small, awkward, joyful, confusing, and everything in between. At its core, it’s real friends having real conversations about real feelings. Some episodes go deep, some stay light, but all are rooted in curiosity, honesty, and connection. In a world that moves fast, sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is pause... and feel things.

    Dealing with Narcissists at Work

Working for or with a narcissist can seriously damage your mental and physical health. Today we're breaking down what narcissism actually looks like at work, from the loud, degrading "overt" boss everyone can spot, to the sneakier "communal narcissist" who love-bombs you, plays the hero, and quietly discards you once they've gotten what they need. We talk about why these people rise to the top, how toxic teams end up mirroring dysfunctional families with everyone playing a role, and what to actually do if you're stuck in a workplace like this, including documenting everything, setting boundaries, and being honest with yourself about how much you can really take. Plus, this week's Hasbro Moment honors a teacher, coach, and dad who shows up fully for kids both in and out of the classroom. Hasbro is sponsoring Feeling Things for 8 weeks, celebrating back to school by getting families around the table with games again. Even better: they're helping us honor amazing teachers! Know one? Email heythere@feelingthingspodcast.com or call 877-207-2077, they could get featured on the show, plus a $500 Walmart gift card from Hasbro for classroom supplies. What's God Got To Do With It?: Making Peace With What I Can't Control with Lysa TerKeurst

In this powerful conversation, Lysa TerKeurst gets honest about something most of us don't want to admit: we all have control issues. And often, what we call "being responsible" or "planning ahead" is actually fear disguised as strength. As the founder of Proverbs 31 Ministries and a #1 New York Times bestselling author, Lysa has spent years helping women navigate boundaries, forgiveness, and faith. But in her new book, Making Peace With What I Can't Control, she reveals her own struggle with trying to change people who don't want to change, prevent outcomes she feared, and manage things that were never hers to control in the first place. In this episode, we explore the intersection of neuroscience and faith, how our brains are wired to seek certainty and safety, and what happens when our need for control bumps up against our relationship with God. Lysa shares how to know when we've crossed the line from healthy responsibility into fear-driven control, what it actually looks like to surrender without giving up, and how to make peace with trusting God's heart when we don't understand what He allows. This isn't about becoming passive. It's about learning the difference between what is actually ours to steward and what was never ours to carry. If you've ever felt exhausted from overthinking, trying to fix others, or wanting to figure it all out, this conversation is for you. Write Your Story: Here’s Why You Should Celebrate Yourself

I used to think celebrating myself was self-centered. Self-aggrandizing. A waste of time at best. An overextension of the ego at worst. If someone else wanted to celebrate me, I would let it happen. But letting it in was a whole different story. When it came to celebrating myself, it used to be a non-starter. But I changed my mind and I want to tell you about it. Soul Sessions: Why We Ignore What We Already Know (And How to Break the Pattern)

This week on Soul Sessions, Amanda Rieger Green explores the space between what we know deep down and what we're actually willing to do about it. Why do we stay in relationships, jobs, and patterns that felt "off" from the very beginning? Amanda breaks down how fear disguises itself as pride, loyalty, people-pleasing, and rationalization — and walks through the shift many of us are feeling between third, fourth, and fifth-dimensional consciousness (and why the "fourth dimension" can feel like walking against ocean waves). She shares a personal pattern she's tracked in herself for years — the quick slide from sensitivity into criticism and self-righteousness — as an example of how to notice and interrupt old coding without shame or over-analysis. Amanda also offers practical, low-hanging-fruit tools for pattern-breaking: movement, sleep intentions, hydration, and nourishing food choices as the foundation for bigger courage and bigger change. If you're staying somewhere because the discomfort feels familiar rather than facing the unknown, this episode is your permission to trust what you already know. Is It 'Bad Enough' To Ask For Help? (Couch Talks)

We're answering two emails that hit close to home for a lot of listeners. First, Sarah, 32, writes in feeling like a stranger to herself after a lifetime of being whoever everyone else needed her to be, and asks how to actually start figuring out who she is. We talk through some real starting points, from noticing what energizes you to practicing choosing for yourself in small ways. Then Mary, 47, shares a vulnerable question about a long, complicated relationship with food and her body, and asks how you know if something is "serious enough" to get help for, even when you're still functioning and showing up for your life. We talk through why the answer to that question might be simpler than she thinks. Get some Feeling Things merch by clicking HERE! Comfort Over Cool: Confessions of Getting Older

Amy's feeling proud, while Kat's feeling sad! We confess all the ways we've settled into getting older, from sensible shoes to loving vacuums to not wanting to go to concerts that start too late. Kat takes us through the realization that millennials are no longer "the future" (or the problem child) as Gen Z has officially taken over that title. Plus: a story about the time Amy's mom showed up at school and walked her to class, a mom who told her kids the TV "broke" four months ago, taking a cruise to Antarctica, and this week's Hasbro Moment honoring a teacher whose family tradition of playing Monopoly turned into decades of showing up for a family in need. What's God Got To Do With It?: Removing the Blocks: Self-Acceptance and God's Unwavering Grace

In this episode of the "God Pod", Leanne invites you to redefine "surrender" and actively shift from self-reliance to God's guidance. Diving into the first ingredient AND the first "God Block", the focus is on Self-Acceptance as both an ingredient for a loving Self-Image and a potential block to receiving God's love. Consider this episode a roadmap to recognizing and addressing your own "God Blocks", fostering self-acceptance, and taking practical steps to actually break through the "Paradox of Acceptance"...and how to accept yourself (even with all the messy bits) when you DON'T accept yourself. Write Your Story: To Learn the Truth, Listen to the Body

The dominant cultural narrative says that truth lies in data, rational thinking and logic. And so when we set out to heal, we think we need to alter the thoughts, reframe the story, and get the mind under control (and for a while this may even work). But then there comes a point where the body begins to disagree with the mind. The body doesn’t care about “right” answers. The body doesn’t care how you’re “supposed” to feel. The body is unconvinced and unconcerned with positive affirmations. The body has one objective and one objective only: to express what is inside. What’s true. And a repressed body will eventually get louder. Much louder. Are you willing to listen to the truth of the body? Soul Sessions: Intentional Friendship, Front-Loading & the Energy of September (with Amy Brown)

This week on Soul Sessions, Amanda Rieger-Green welcomes a very special guest: her cousin Amy Brown, co-host of The Bobby Bones Show and Feeling Things with Amy and Kat, who traveled all the way to Cuenca, Ecuador to visit her. Amanda and Amy dive deep into what it means to be truly intentional in friendship, how the loss of both of their mothers deepened their bond, and why "front-loading" your schedule to protect time with the people you love is worth it. They talk through calling an audible, coping mechanisms disguised as chores (hello, aggressive counter-wiping), book recommendations for reconnecting with fiction, and how September's numerology landing as a 1 month in a 1 Universal Year, amplified into a 10, is asking all of us to engage more fully and show up present in our relationships. Amanda also opens up about a recent, tender loss and what it's teaching her about living in the now instead of waiting for "someday." A warm, funny, and honest conversation about presence, reciprocity, and inhabiting your life with the people who matter most. Host: Amanda Rieger Green Subscribe to Amanda's YouTube HERE! When Rejection Is Redirection & More (Couch Talks)

We're diving into your voicemails and emails…starting with Samantha's story about how a job she "didn't get" ended up leading her to her best friend, her fiancé, and a promotion (proof that maybe you didn't get what you wanted because you deserve more). We're also unpacking a body language expert's claim that carrying two bags to work makes you look "chaotic" and unprofessional, answering a listener's question about LENS neurofeedback therapy, and Kat's tackling a great question from Mary (a fellow therapist-in-training) about how to balance hosting a podcast with keeping client boundaries intact. Plus: Amy shares an important PSA about Instagram reposts (go check your page, you never know what's on there), Kat tells us why one etiquette expert says "congratulations" on an engagement is actually a faux pas, TSA-approved airport hammocks for your next long layover, a genius gift idea involving printed group texts, and a 70-year-old's texting code cheat sheet that will have you dying laughing (BYOT = Bring Your Own Teeth). What's God Got To Do With It?: Unraveling Worthiness: Breaking Down the 5 'Blocks' to God's Love

Leanne is kicking off a new series based on her own experiences navigating "The Paradox of Worthiness" (as she calls it). As in, how do you feel worthy when you don't feel worthy? There is so much talk nowadays about self-love and worthiness, but the crucial question remains: How do we truly embrace it if all we’ve ever known is the opposite? How do you suddenly feel worthy if all you’ve ever known is feeling unworthy? In this kickoff to the series, Leanne introduces you to (what she calls) "The 5 Blocks To Love", and how she discovered that when it came to actually FEELING worthy of being loved, that was a really hard concept for her to grasp at first. It felt like something was actually blocking her. And that's when she discovered that there were "5 Blocks" that were hindering her ability to RECEIVE what was already there, and that this was what was actually causing her resistance. She also discovered that removing those blocks catapulted her ability to connect to herself, others, and God. You're going to get an in-depth look at each of these blocks in this upcoming series, but first she dives into the fusion of faith, neuroscience, and self-image as a pathway to feeling worthy and putting yourself in the optimal position to remove your own blocks. Soul Sessions: September 2026 Numerology: The Capstone Month & the Power of the 1 Year

September is the capstone month of numerology — the ninth month landing inside a 1 Universal Year (2026), amplified by the energy of 10. In this episode, Amanda Rieger Green breaks down why this month accelerates new beginnings, self-authorship, and identity, and why so much closure has shown up in a year that's supposed to be about starting fresh. She unpacks the shadow side of the 1 (urgency, busyness for its own sake), the meaning of the 0 as pure potential and higher consciousness, and how to recognize what's still emerging in you from the last nine-year cycle (going back to 2017, the last 10 Year). Amanda also shares how the body is processing accelerated energetic shifts, why the small moments — not the big dramatic ones — carry the most data about where your life force wants to go, and what to expect as September, October, and November build toward each other. Plus: how to find your personal year and personal month for September, and details on Amanda's Frequency Field fall bundle for anyone wanting to go deeper in community. A Surprising Silver Lining + Chasing More Money at Work (Couch Talks)

A caller offers her perspective on a tough topic, why an ex moving on to a new relationship might actually be a hidden gift, even when it stings at first. We also dig into a listener's tricky career dilemma: she loves her current boss and the balance she's built, but has an offer on the table for significantly more money with an unknown boss and company culture. We break down how to weigh a guaranteed good thing against an unknown bigger opportunity. What Your Fidgeting Says About You + 7 Morning Habits of Happy Couples

Do you touch your hair or fidget with your jewelry at work? We're breaking down a communication expert's take on small nervous habits, twirling your hair, fixing your earrings, playing with loud bangles, and why these tiny, seemingly harmless movements can unintentionally read as nervousness or even flirtation to the people around you. We talk about the upcoming Verity movie and get into 7 research-backed morning habits that couples who stay in love tend to share, from a 6-second kiss to connecting before checking your phone. We got a sweet DM from a listener grateful for the show's prep work ahead of Kat's baby, a hilariously dark confession about making a younger sibling cry on purpose as a kid, and a whimsical mental reframe for creating your own "golden ticket" to a great day. We're also continuing our Hasbro Moment series, this week honoring a school librarian who creates a true sense of community for her students, and celebrating how games like Jenga, Scrabble, and Trivial Pursuit sneak in real learning through play. Soul Sessions: Why You Can Feel Lonely Even When You're Not Alone

You can be loved, surrounded, and constantly connected — and still feel profoundly unmet. In this solo episode, Amanda unpacks the difference between solitude, isolation, and loneliness, and why loneliness isn't about lacking people — it's information. Drawing on her public health background (and the loneliness research she presented to Amazon during the pandemic), Amanda explores why this "epidemic" has only deepened since 2021, and connects it to the current astrology — Saturn and Neptune both retrograde in Aries — asking us to grow up and soften at the same time. In this episode, Amanda covers: The real difference between nourishing solitude and protective isolation Why loneliness can happen in a crowded room, a marriage, or a community How to stop pathologizing your loneliness and start listening to it The question to ask instead: what kind of connection am I actually hungry for? Where you might be performing connection instead of experiencing it Additional Resources: Amanda is opening enrollment for the next Frequency Field chapter (September–November). Write Your Story: Stop Doubting Your Brilliance

You are brilliant. You don’t think you are, but you are. The exact way that you move through the world, that you love others, that you dress, that you speak, that you take care of people, that you create and make and dance and laugh is magical and needed and utterly irreplaceable. The problem is you’re second-guessing it. You’re downplaying it. You tell yourself that you don’t want to be too arrogant or think too highly of yourself. You don’t want to stand up too tall or shine too brightly. This is your reminder to shine EXACTLY THAT BRIGHT. To shine so brightly that you feel like an absolute fool.
