Was Milly Alcock REALLY the problem? Or did Supergirl have much bigger issues?     Deadhouse Landing feels like the best fan fiction ever written… except the fan writing it is actually one of the creators! In this spoiler-lite review, Jim dives into Ian C. Esslemont’s Deadhouse Landing, Book 2 of the Path to Ascendancy series, and explores how it brings the origins of the Malazan Empire to life. For longtime Malazan fans, this book is an absolute TREASURE TROVE. We finally get to see the roots of the Malazan Empire, origin stories for a ridiculous number of familiar characters, more insight into Surly, and—perhaps best of all—more of the wonderfully entertaining relationship between Kellanved and Dancer. After reading Steven Erikson’s Malazan Book of the Fallen and Esslemont’s Novels of the Malazan Empire, Jim has been working his way through the prequel material. In this spoiler-lite review, I’m wrapping up The Deed of Paksenarrion trilogy, a classic fantasy series that has thoroughly won me over. After everything Paks endured in Divided Allegiance, Oath of Gold brings her journey to a powerful conclusion—and delivers one of the most compelling portrayals of a paladin I’ve encountered in fantasy. We’ll talk about: ⚔️ The tremendous payoffs Moon delivers after three books 🛡️ Why Paks’s goodness, humility, and conviction make her MORE interesting, not less 🔥 The extraordinary role of sacrifice in her journey ✨ Faith, service, and living for something greater than yourself 🏰 The increasingly rich worldbuilding of Elizabeth Moon’s classic fantasy setting 😬 And why some of what Paks endures may be too much for certain readers I’ll also discuss a potential criticism involving Paks’s agency, why the trilogy’s unapologetically classic approach to fantasy will delight some readers and turn off others, and whether Oath of Gold sticks the landing after everything the first two books set in motion.     Is Magic in Fantasy Actually Dangerous? A Christian Perspective

    Can Christians love fantasy filled with elaborate magic systems without compromising their faith? Or is there a point where fictional magic crosses a spiritual line?     Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Review — Not as Good… But CLOSE!

    Freddy Fazbear got me once… could he do it AGAIN? 😱🐻 After being genuinely surprised by how much I enjoyed the first Five Nights at Freddy’s movie, I jumped straight into Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 (2025) the very next day. And remember—I’ve never played the games, so I’m experiencing this increasingly bizarre mythology completely through the movies! In this spoiler-lite review, I’m digging into what worked, what didn’t, and whether this sequel manages to escape the dreaded horror-sequel curse. We’ll talk about: 🎬 The returning characters that made the first movie work 🤖 More fantastic animatronics and creature effects 👻 A MUCH bigger mythology—and yes, a creepy ghost marionette ⭐ Vanessa’s expanded role 😬 Why these movies still aren’t quite scary enough ⏱️ Some sequel-sized pacing problems 🔥 And whether Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 lives up to the surprisingly enjoyable original I didn’t think the sequel quite matched the first film—but it came awfully close. Somehow, despite starting this journey completely skeptical of supernatural pizza-restaurant mascots, I’m now invested in this franchise. Freddy still delivers!
