5 Ongoing Essentials Missional Leaders Need

Leadership within the Church is so much more than just tasks and jobs getting done. Biblical leadership does get things done and serve the Family, but effectiveness as leaders is so much more about character, their hearts, and a growing ability to speak and model the Gospel in all of life. In this episode, Caesar gives you 5 ongoing essentials that every missional leader needs in their life. Unfortunately, almost no one was trained for the type of leadership that missional communities require. Let's be the ones that change that! In This Episode You’ll Learn: Why the commitment to developing leaders attracts great leaders. What to do if YOU are not getting these 5 essentials as a leader. The importance of every leader having an apprentice. What happens if you're missing any of these 5 essentials. Get started here... From this episode: “Treating people like “stop gaps” to our problems in an area of ministry only reinforces a DO=BE mentality and ultimately demoralizes people. Seeing and treating your leaders as divine Image-bearers and like members of your family puts you both in a humble position to receive the ongoing grace that our heavenly Father offers–regardless of our performance or less-than-perfect leadership record.” Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. Dealing With Limiting Beliefs About Discipleship And Mission

As Christians, we most often use the word “belief” in connection to our faith and the Bible, but we also have beliefs that shape our lives connected to pretty much every action or inaction in life. Sometimes these beliefs can limit our potential. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we'll talk about how you can identify and replace your limiting beliefs about discipleship and mission. It's time to start moving forward! In This Episode You’ll Learn: How to recognize and name any limiting beliefs you have. How to identify excuses or perceived barriers that keep you stuck. Ways to explore your unmet spiritual desires. Who you need to spend more time with to promote the changes you want. Get started here... From this episode: "God’s desire is that you would live with spiritual freedom and relational peace. This is what Jesus came to model for us and then commanded his disciples (that’s us today) to go and live the same way, making more disciples. He has placed his own Holy Spirit within you and not given you a spirit of fear or limitations. Don’t let your limiting beliefs or fears or dead traditions stop you from embracing the life that Jesus died to give you." Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. Spirituality That Fuels God’s Mission

Mission for God and intimacy with God can often become disconnected and seem like competing priorities and passions. But what if you could cultivate a vibrant and authentic spirituality that doesn’t draw you away from your neighbors, but propels you into the lives of others and the needs of your city? In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, Caesar is joined by church planters Jeremy and Monica Chambers as they break down this divide in a way that helps you discover fresh joy in living as a Jesus-follower, and become more fruitful in your everyday mission. In This Episode You’ll Learn: Why there seems to be a divide between deep spirituality and mission. Why focusing just on contemplation or just on the mission is incomplete. How to cultivate a vibrant spirituality that doesn’t draw you away from others. A practice where you'll discover new ways in which God is truly amazing! Get started here... From this episode: "Don't get caught up thinking, Oh, if I do this practice, then God's going to be more pleased with me, or whatever. No! How to Create a Lifestyle of Discipleship

Is discipleship about gaining knowledge, or is it about a transformed life? Is it a series of classes or, like with Jesus and his pals, was it an all-of-life kind of a deal? In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we’re talking about true discipleship and looking at what a lifestyle of discipleship looks like when it is all woven into the normal rhythms of your everyday life in community. In This Episode You’ll Learn:A working definition of discipleship that will reshape your thinking on this immediately How Jesus lived life with his disciples and what he then hoped/commanded them to do Why a series of 8-10 classes done in a classroom will never produce mature disciples Why an integrated lifestyle “apprenticeship” was Jesus’ model for us Get started here... From this episode: “What I have found from speaking and training all over the world, and getting a zillion emails, is that the average Christian is looking to move their faith from just a weekly Sunday event to a daily, vibrant experience in the normal rhythms of everyday life." 5 Dumb Things Christians Need To Stop Doing

The life of Jesus was and will always be counter-cultural. But often, it seems, we’re not ridiculed or rejected because we’re living such radically loving and selfless lives, it’s because we actually live so little like Jesus. In this episode, Caesar looks at 5 dumb things that Christians need to stop doing that are affecting our witness and our discipleship efforts. And he gives a little of the gospel “thing behind the thing” with each of these issues. In This Episode You’ll Learn:Why we need to be careful with what we say online. How even our most loving actions can be misunderstood. The things that Jesus got angry about (are you?). How the way we handle conflict reflects our faith. Get started here... From this episode: “The world has a judge and it's not you! Remember, God has both judged and punished all human sin on the cross. It is finished. That's what Jesus said. It is finished. Do you believe that? So let's stop judging everyone, both inside and outside the church. Let's start loving them. And let God be God." Discipleship Rhythms For a Community on Mission

Ministry and discipleship cannot merely be a series of events on the calendar. If all we have are organized events, then what we offer people is a program. But, if all we do in our disciple-making is organic and rarely organized or predictable, it is hard for people to know what it is we're asking them to commit to. This week on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, Caesar speaks with master disciple-maker, Gino Curcuruto, on how the rhythms of a community on mission very much mirror life as a family. We need both organized and organic rhythms. We'll show you how to find and create a balance between them. In This Episode You’ll Learn:Discipleship should not be a program we offer others. How to help people understand what we are asking them to commit to. The need for both organized and organic rhythms in community. How predictable patterns naturally lead to life-on-life together. Get started here... From this episode: “I've noticed that it takes very few organized activities as a family to lead to healthy organic rhythms that naturally occur. And those organics then, because you're doing life-on-life together, oftentimes lead back to sort of micro-organized things. It's all very natural and easy.” Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. Download today’s BIG 3 right now. Read and think over them again later. 7 Challenges To Cultural Diversity in the Church

Experiencing a diverse group of believers walking with and worshiping God together as a family is a beautiful thing. However, there will be obstacles to overcome for this to become a common reality. In this episode, Caesar walks through 7 challenges to greater cultural diversity that are facing the Church. Some of these are age-old, some of them are unique based on society today. In This Episode You’ll Learn: Diversity is not just about skin color or race. God has a diverse family–and not just on Sunday! Why the restoration of relationships is key to diversity in the Church. Steps to living a more diverse cultural experience together. Get started here... From this episode: “The Bible teaches that we've been given the ministry of reconciliation. Reconciliation is meant to repair relationships that are broken. It's about restoration. So when we talk about cultural diversity in the church and as the church–as God's family–that's what we're talking about. We're talking about a restoration to the way God created us to be and hopes for us to be together.”Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started.Download today’s BIG 3 right now. It’s Time For The Church To Tell a New Story (w/Brad Brisco)

If we are serious about changing the culture within the church, then we must begin to change the narrative that leaders tell. If the only stories we are telling through social media are who is preaching, what you’re preaching, and how amazing everything was on Sunday, then we will continue to get and BE what we continue to highlight. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, Caesar is joined by author and missional strategist, Brad Brisco. They discuss how the types of stories we're commonly telling about our churches are having damaging consequences. It's time to change all that! In This Episode You’ll Learn:How silly our stories about our church sound and look online. How many of our stories betray a deep sense of consumerism. Why changing the narratives we tell will reshape the Church itself. Ways to discover and discern what God is already doing, and then tell those stories. Get started here… From this episode: "If our relationship with God is largely transactional, then that’s how we’ll view the Church. God desires a relationship of trust with you that is real and present. He is longing to draw you into His big Story and in so doing, rewrite the story of your life. And not just your afterlife, but today, tomorrow… with your family and friends, and within the Church." Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. What Causes Sin and How to Stop It

“Just stop it!” doesn’t really work when it comes to changing sinful actions, habits, or thoughts in our lives (or in others). And perhaps what you’ve been taught about sin and repentance is all wrong... Today on the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we talk about where sin really comes from and how we can move away from our particular brand of sin and find freedom. What if all sin is actually a symptom of something else? Not many Christians think of themselves as unbelievers. We normally use the term to describe people who are not yet followers of Jesus. But there are many things about God that we all still do not believe. Often there’s a large gap between what we say we believe in our head, and what we truly believe in our heart. This is where sin comes from. In This Episode You’ll Learn:A radical heart-level perspective on sin and repentance. How and why God looks at the heart–not at your actions. Four eternal truths about God, when not fully believed, lead to every human sin. A way to stop sinning by changing what you believe to be true (powerful!) Get started here... From this episode... "Moving from unbelief to belief about what is true about God is the secret! Out of his identity and character flows his actions and will. As we move from unbelief to belief concerning these truths, we will be led out of sinful actions and negative emotions." Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started. Stop Confusing Justice With Payback & Revenge

Most of us carry a definition of justice we picked up somewhere along the way — and it usually looks like payback. Someone wrongs you, someone wrongs others, and justice means they get what's coming to them. But what if that version of justice has almost nothing to do with what God actually means by the word? In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we're going to dig into what the Bible actually means by mercy and justice — and why they're not opposites. You'll discover how God's justice is really about restoration, and what it looks like to participate in that restorative work in the lives of people around you. In This Episode You’ll Learn: The biblical definitions of mercy and justice that will change how you see both What actually produces a love of mercy in your own heart How God's restorative justice is bigger than any weekend service project Where to start engaging real injustice — locally and globally Get started here... From this episode: "Justice is really about restoration. Getting even or punishing people for their screw-ups is going in the wrong direction. It's working against God's purposes. God is not interested in getting even; he wants people to see who they really are — who they were meant to be. How they should live. For things to be made right, restored."Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started.Download today’s BIG 3 right now. Read and think over them again later. 7 Reasons Gossip Is Poison 3 Ways To Crush It

Gossip is everywhere — in our friendships, our workplaces, even our churches. We've all been on both ends of it. And most of us have drifted into it without realizing until after. It's so normal it barely registers anymore. But it's doing real damage to the people around us and to us. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we're going to unpack what gossip actually is — and the definition will probably surprise you. You'll discover why it's genuinely dangerous, how to recognize it in the moment, and three ways to crush it before it spreads. This one could change how you listen to every conversation. In This Episode You’ll Learn:A definition of gossip that instantly changes how you hear conversations Seven real reasons gossip is more destructive than you've been told Three practical moves to crush gossip before it takes hold How sticking up for the absent person builds surprising, lasting trust Get started here... From this episode: "Gossip is speaking to someone who is neither directly part of the problem or the solution in a situation, concerning another person who is not present. What Gospel Fluency Sounds Like

Most of us grew up with a gospel that was mainly about the afterlife. Avoid hell. Get to heaven. Manage sin in the meantime. But quietly, you start to wonder — is this it? Is this all Jesus came to give us? It's a fair question, and the answer might surprise you. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we're going to unpack what it looks like to live with a bigger gospel — one that has something real to say about your marriage, your money, your identity, and your Tuesday afternoon. We call this Gospel Fluency. And it changes everything. In This Episode You’ll Learn: Why the gospel is good news for right now — not just the afterlife A simple 4-question process for applying the gospel to any situation How what you believe about God shapes how you see yourself What it looks like when discipleship becomes naturally good news Get started here... From this episode: "When you have a bigger gospel you'll develop the confidence and grace to speak the truth in love — first to yourself — and then with others in a way that is truly good news. Evangelism will no longer be a weird or stressful sales pitch and your discipleship with others will be supercharged with good news."Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started.Download today’s BIG 3 right now. The Reward of Being a Lifelong Learner

Most of us hit a point where life got full and learning got quiet. We stopped reading, stopped asking questions, stopped sitting across from people who could actually sharpen us. We tell ourselves we're too busy — but the truth is, we just haven't made the decision to keep growing. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we're going to talk about what it actually looks like to build a lifelong learning practice — and why this one posture changes everything: your marriage, your parenting, your faith, your work, and the kind of person people see you becoming. In This Episode You’ll Learn:Why the posture of a learner changes everything else in your life How to find and meet with people who are ahead of you in the areas that matter A simple system for building a year-round reading list that actually gets read The one decision that puts all of this in motion — and how to make it stick Get started here... From this episode: "Becoming or maintaining the posture of a lifelong learner definitely takes intentionality. But now you have a process for getting started and keeping this going year-to-year. The benefits to your marriage, ministry, family, and overall character will be powerful — and noticed by those around you."Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started.Download today’s BIG 3 right now. Marriage, Singleness, and Our Identity in Christ

Most of us in the church have heard the message, even if no one said it out loud: get married, have a family, and you'll be complete. We've built so many of our rhythms and language around marriage as the destination that singleness has quietly become a waiting room. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we're going to look at how the church's narratives about marriage and singleness have limited us — and what it looks like to find real wholeness and identity in Christ, whether you have a ring on your finger or not. In This Episode You’ll Learn: What the Bible actually says about marriage — and what it doesn't Why singleness in the church gets treated like a problem to fix How our language about marriage unintentionally excludes and diminishes What it means to be complete in Christ regardless of relationship status Get started here... From this episode: "Many of the church's narratives have limited our understanding of marriage and obscured our view of the life-giving and kingdom-serving roles of single people. Jesus was single his entire life and is the most whole, complete picture of both human-ness and who God is."Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started.Download today’s BIG 3 right now. Why You Keep Saying Yes When You Mean No

Most of us say yes way too often — and we know it. Whether it's fear of what others will think, or just not wanting to miss out, we keep adding things to our plate until we're running on empty. We've mastered the art of the reluctant yes. And it's quietly costing us more than we realize. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we're going to dig into why saying no is so hard, what the Bible actually says about commitments, and 10 practical ways to say no with grace. Plus — how to back out of something you never should have said yes to in the first place. This one is freeing. In This Episode You’ll Learn:Why fear of man and FOMO keep you locked in yes What Scripture actually says about bailing on commitments 10 ways to say no gracefully — plus one for telemarketers How to back out of a commitment without burning a relationship Get started here... From this episode: "The more we think about what we're giving up when we say 'yes' to someone, the easier it is to say no. A graceful 'no' grows out of a clear but unstated calculation of the trade-off."Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started.Download today’s BIG 3 right now. Does Your Gospel Actually Sound Like Good News

A lot of us have been in church for years. We've heard the sermons, read the books, studied the theology. But when a real conversation opens up — with a neighbor, a coworker, a friend in crisis — we freeze. The gospel we know in our heads just won't come out naturally. That tension is real. And it matters. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we're going to explore why so many believers struggle to talk about faith naturally — and what actually changes when you get the gospel right. You'll discover how your upbringing shapes the way you see God, and why the gospel is genuinely good news for every part of life today. In This Episode You’ll Learn: How your upbringing quietly shapes the way you see and share the gospel Why so many believers feel awkward or scared talking about their faith What it looks like to experience the gospel in everyday life — not just Sunday How gospel fluency transforms your relationships, community, and conversations Get started here... From this episode: "Don't settle for a small gospel that's only about getting to heaven someday. The gospel is transformational good news for every part of your life right now — your relationships, your conversations, everything. When we get this right, everything else changes."Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started.Download today’s BIG 3 right now. Read and think over them again later. Community on Mission Works in Any Context

"It won't work in my context." I've heard this everywhere — urban, suburban, rural. And honestly? I've probably thought it myself. We look at the gaps, the distances, the busyness of real life and quietly wonder if maybe community only works somewhere else. Turns out, everyone thinks that. And it turns out… everyone is wrong. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we're going to dig into whether missional community is actually possible in your context — wherever that is. We'll look at what Jesus modeled, why healthy families and missional communities share surprising DNA, and how to figure out what your specific community actually needs to thrive. In This Episode You’ll Learn: Why Jesus always made disciples in community—not solo The surprising overlap between healthy families and missional life What every context has in common (it's not what you think) How to read the DNA of your specific community and context Get started here... From this episode: "One thing that is universal about a missional community in any context is that this sort of lifestyle is going to be messy. It is not a weekly Bible study or an hour-long, one-on-one meeting. You'll need to give your whole life to making disciples the way Jesus did."Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started.Download today’s BIG 3 right now. Behind Every Conflict Is a Gospel Story

Most of us hear the word "conflict" and immediately want to avoid it. But not all conflict is the same — and the kind you keep running from might be the exact thing that would heal your relationship. The problem is we're wired to avoid the good kind and let the bad kind fester quietly. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we're going to break down the two types of conflict, show you why one of them is actually essential for healthy relationships and community, and give you real steps for addressing the conflict you've been walking around for too long. In This Episode You’ll Learn:The clear difference between the two kinds of conflict and how to tell which one you're in Why we're wired to avoid the good type of conflict and quietly adjust to the bad How conflict creates one of the best environments for discipleship you'll ever find Real steps for addressing a conflict in your life and community Get started here... From this episode: "Behind every conflict lives a series of lies and unbelief. Identifying those and replacing them with the truth about God, ourselves, and how we GET to live is always the goal. That's what discipleship is — and how we experience the Kingdom of heaven now… here!"Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started.Download today’s BIG 3 right now. Baptism and Your True Identity

Most of us think of baptism as a one-time event — something that happened to us, not something we actually live from. But there's another baptism happening constantly, one almost none of us notice. The culture around us is forming our identity every single day — shaping what we believe about our worth, our value, and what we're for. In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, we're going to talk with author and pastor Eric Peterson about the staggering power of Christian baptism — what it was really declaring over your life, and how living from that identity changes everything about how you show up every single day. In This Episode You’ll Learn: How culture is constantly "baptizing" us into a DO=BE identity – exhausting us Why Christian baptism is a declaration about who you already are How the Church has lost the full power and significance of what baptism is about A simple daily practice to help you live from your trinitarian identity Get started here... From this episode: "Pay attention to how often water is present and its importance in your daily life. Let it remind you, like the sacrament of your baptism, that you are now immersed into your true and restored trinitarian identity. You can now live as a full-fledged member of God's family of missionary servants, sent as a disciple of Jesus into your world to make more disciples… filling the world with God's glory."Each week the Big 3 will give you immediate action steps to get you started.Download today’s BIG 3 right now.
