498 - 7 Lessons From 7 Years of Online Coaching

We've been at this for over 7 years. Here's what we want you to know. Seven lessons learned from seven years of online coaching 1. Regular exercise is the secret to staying on track with your nutrition 2. Clients who work out at the same time on the same day every week are the most successful. 3. Strong connections are built through consistent personal communication, not just by being in person 4. Above all else, maintain momentum. 5. Success is reserved for the problem solvers, not the excuse makers. 6. In the coming years, coaches will be tempted to let AI do their job. That will be a mistake. 7. Taking a leap of faith is the best thing you can do for yourself Email us: jonathan@digitalbarbell.com - blakley@digitalbarbell.com Try a free week of strength workouts: www.digitalbarbell.com/minotstrong Apply for coaching: www.digitalbarbell.com/contact-us

497 - From Fat In My 20's to Fit In 40's - 5 Things That Changed

In 2005, I was 27 years old, newly married, working for myself, and about 30–35 pounds heavier than I am today. I worked out occasionally, ate a lot of fast food, blamed some of my limitations on genetics, and had no idea what it actually took to build a healthy lifestyle that would last. Now I’m 48, and while I’m certainly not the fittest or strongest guy my age, I’m in dramatically better shape than I was 21 years ago. More importantly, I’ve built habits and a mindset that have kept my health and fitness moving in the right direction for decades. So I sat down and asked myself: What do I know and believe about health and fitness now that I had absolutely no clue about in my 20s? In this episode, I break down the five biggest changes: I started training consistently. I stopped relying on fast food and restaurant meals. I learned to challenge myself in the gym instead of playing it safe. I changed my identity and started seeing myself as a fit person. I kept learning about training, nutrition, and health. None of these changes happened overnight, and none of them required a perfect diet, a magic supplement, or some extreme fitness program. They were simple things that I gradually made part of my life. And that may be the most important lesson of all: being fit won't make you happy, but taking care of yourself can give you more strength, energy, confidence, and freedom to enjoy the life you already have. 7 Lessons For Men Over 40: https://www.digitalbarbell.com/muscleover40 Work with us: www.digitalbarbell.com/contact-us

496 - When Training Starts To Feel Like A Chore

Ever been in a stretch where you’re still working out, but you just…don’t really feel like it anymore? We get it. After years of training, even something you genuinely enjoy can start to feel repetitive. Sometimes you start wondering, “Do I actually need to get more motivated, or am I just bored?” In this episode, we talk about what it’s like to lose some of the motivation to train when fitness has been part of your life for years. We also zoom out and talk about the bigger reason we exercise in the first place: health, strength, longevity, and being able to enjoy your life. Your workout is important, but it’s not the point of your life. And then we get practical. We share some ways to shake things up, make training fun again, and get yourself excited about exercising without throwing away all the progress you’ve made. If you’ve been training for years and your motivation has been a little MIA lately, this one is for you. 495 - Fell Off Track? 5 Steps to Get Back Into Your Fitness Routine

Your clothes were fitting better. You were getting stronger. You had more energy. Maybe you even lost 10 pounds. Then summer happened. A few missed workouts turned into a few more. There were more dinners out, more takeout, a vacation (or two), and before you knew it, your workout and nutrition routines had completely fallen apart. Now you're looking at the calendar thinking, “How the heck do I get back on track?” In this episode, we give you 5 practical steps to help you rebuild your fitness routine without trying to make up for lost time or punish yourself for being inconsistent. You'll learn: • Why you shouldn't try to make up for missed workouts or “undo” the damage with extreme dieting • How to restart your strength training, including how many days to train, how to choose your weights, and when to reduce your training volume • Why setting a non-workout activity goal can help you rebuild momentum • How to use a 90% consistency goal instead of chasing perfection • Specific nutrition targets for protein, fruits and vegetables, hydration, and even a little daily “fun food” Whether you fell off track this summer, during the holidays, or just had a crazy few months, these strategies will help you stop starting over and get back to doing the basics consistently. Details here: www.digitalbarbell.com/strengthmadesimple www.digitalbarbell.com/thefollowthroughformula Small changes can add up to big results, especially when it comes to your fitness and nutrition. In this episode, we break down 5 simple changes you can make to improve your workouts, build more muscle, manage your nutrition, and make better progress over time: Learn what true training failure feels like so you can better judge your effort. Use a simple pre-workout routine to improve your energy and focus. Video yourself once a week to catch form issues you might not feel while you're moving. Track your workouts so you can actually see and build on your progress. Build meals around enough calories and protein to improve energy, reduce cravings, and make nutrition easier to manage. Plus, we share a bonus change that has had a huge impact on our own health: make more of your own food. None of these changes will transform your fitness overnight. But done consistently, small improvements can compound into very different results over months and years.
