सर्वदा वन्द्यः शिवः

कश्चन बालकः मात्रा सह प्रतिदिनं शिवालयं गच्छति स्म । कदाचित् सः बालकः एकाकी देवालयम् अगच्छत् । तत्र शिवलिङ्गस्य उपरि अक्षतान्नं खादन्तं मूषकम् अपश्यत् । सर्वशक्तः अपि शिवः कथं मूषकं न निवारयति इति खेदम् अनुभवन् सः बालकः गृहं गत्वा मातरम् अवदत् यत् अहम् इतः परं शिवालयं न गच्छामि इति । कारणे पृष्टे प्रवृत्तं सर्वम् अवदत् सः । तदा माता सान्त्वनवचनैः तम् उपदिशति । (“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”) A young boy used to visit the Shiva temple daily with his mother. One day he went alone and saw a mouse eating rice grains placed on the Shiva-linga. Feeling upset, he wondered why almighty Shiva did not stop the mouse. Distressed, he went home and told his mother that he would no longer go to the temple. When asked the reason, he narrated everything. Then the mother consoled him with gentle words of guidance.
