Beholding the Lord near at hand, he serves the True Guru, and he is satisfied through the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises. || Pause || The addict is addicted to his drug, and the landlord is in love with his land. ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ਤਰੇ ॥ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸਨ ਹਰੇ॥ ਬੂਡੇ ਭਾਰੇ ਭੈ ਬਿਨਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤਾਰੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਭੀ ਤੂਹੈ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਭੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਾਲਾਹ ॥ ਵਿਣੁ ਬੋਹਿਥ ਭੈ ਡੁਬੀਐਪਿਆਰੇ ਕੰਧੀ ਪਾਇ ਕਹਾਹ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਲਾਹਨਿ ਸੇ ਭਲੇਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਰਸੁ ਲੈ ਤਤੁ ਵਿਲੋਇ ॥੨॥ ਪਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ਸਾਚ ਕਾ ਪਿਆਰੇਨਾਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥ ਆਇਆ ਲਿਖਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਵਣਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਾਚੇਸਾਚਾ ਤਾਣੁ ॥੩॥ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਿੰਮਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਉਦਰ ਮਝਾਰਿ ॥ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਊਧਉ ਸਿਰ ਕੈ ਭਾਰਿ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਚਲੈ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਾਰਿ ॥੪॥ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਜਾਦੋ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਹੁਕਮੇਬੰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਚਲਾਈਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਲਹੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਗਣਤਗਣਾਈਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੋਇ ॥ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਭਵੈ ਭਵਾਈਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਅਵਗਣਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਰੋਇ ॥ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਿਞਾਪੈ ਸਾਹ ਕਾਪਿਆਰੇ ਸਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੋਇ ॥੬॥ ਆਖਣਿ ਅਉਖਾ ਆਖੀਐ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਣੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਉ ॥ ਜਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੀ ਸੋ ਸਾਲਾਹਿਆਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥ ਨਾਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਆਂ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਦਰੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥੭॥ ਕਾਇਆ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਜੇ ਥੀਐਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਸਵਾਣੀ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ ਲਲਤਾ ਲੇਖਣਿ ਸਚ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਲਿਖਹੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥ ਧਨੁ ਲੇਖਾਰੀ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਪਿਆਰੇਸਾਚੁ ਲਿਖੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੩॥ ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਦਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਸਦਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਹੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਇਸਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਹੈ, ਇਸ) ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਭਉ-ਸਾਗਰਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਕੋਈ ਭੀ ਜੀਵ ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦਾ) ਪਾਰਲਾ ਕੰਢਾ ਲੱਭ ਨਹੀਂ ਸਕਦਾ।ਰਹਾਉ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਪੱਲਾ ਫੜਿਆ ਹੈ, ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਸੰਗੀ-ਸਾਥੀ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਜੀਭਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਚੱਖਦੀ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਦੇ (ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਦੀ) ਰੁਕਾਵਟ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈਂਦੀ। ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਡਰ-ਅਦਬ ਤੋਂ ਸੱਖਣੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਰ ਨਾਲ ਲੱਦੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਵਿਚਡੁੱਬ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪਰ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਮੇਹਰ ਦੀ ਨਿਗਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੀ ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੧। ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਸਾਲਾਹਣ-ਜੋਗ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜੇ ਬੰਦੇਪਿਆਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਭਾਗਾਂ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਨ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਡੂੰਘੀ ਲਗਨ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਨੂੰਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ-ਰੰਗ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਜੇਹੇ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਜੇ (ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ) ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਹਰੀ-ਨਾਮ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ(ਨਾਮ-ਦੁੱਧ ਨੂੰ) ਰਿੜਕ ਕੇ ਉਹ ਜਗਤ ਮੂਲ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੨। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਵਾਸਤੇ (ਇਸ ਜੀਵਨ-ਸਫ਼ਰ ਵਿਚ) ਰਾਹਦਾਰੀ ਹੈ, ਇਹਨਾਮ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਮੋਹਰ ਹੈ। (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਇਹੀ ਹੁਕਮ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਜੋ ਭੀ ਆਇਆ ਹੈ ਉਸ ਨੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣਵਾਸਤੇ, ਇਹ ਨਾਮ-ਰੂਪ ਰਾਹਦਾਰੀ) ਲਿਖ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਨਾਲ ਲੈ ਜਾਣੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਇਸ ਹੁਕਮ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝ (ਪਰ ਇਸ ਹੁਕਮਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣ ਲਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈਣਾ ਪਏਗਾ) ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਸਮਝਿਆ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੇਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਸਮਝ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਟਾਕਰਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਬਲ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੋਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜੀਵ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ (ਪਹਿਲਾਂ) ਮਾਤਾ ਦੇ ਗਰਭ ਵਿਚ ਟਿਕਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਮਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੇਟ ਵਿਚ (ਦਸ ਮਹੀਨੇਨਿਵਾਸ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈ) । ਪੁੱਠਾ ਸਿਰ ਭਾਰ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ (ਫਿਰ) ਜਨਮ ਲੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ। (ਕਿਸੇ ਖ਼ਾਸ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਨੋਰਥਵਾਸਤੇ ਜੀਵ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਜੋ ਜੀਵ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਪੈ ਕੇ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਨੋਰਥ ਨੂੰ ਸਵਾਰ ਕੇ ਇਥੋਂ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਦਰ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੪। ਹੇ ਸੱਜਣ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਜੀਵ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਇਥੋਂ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ। ਜੇਹੜਾਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਫਸ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ(ਭਾਵ, ਜੋਰੋ ਜੋਰੀ) ਇਥੋਂ ਤੋਰਿਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਨ ਉਹ ਇਸ ਮਾਇਆ ਨੂੰ ਛੱਡਣਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ) । ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ ਜਿਸ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਜਨਮ-ਮਨੋਰਥ ਨੂੰ) ਪਛਾਣ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚਆਦਰ ਨਾਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੫। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ (ਕਿਤੇ) ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਸੋਚ ਸੋਚੀ ਜਾ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਕਿਤੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਹੈਕਿਤੇ ਦ੍ਵੈਤ ਹੈ। ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਅਨੁਸਾਰ ਹੀ (ਕਿਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ) ਭਟਕ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, (ਕਿਤੇ ਕੋਈ) ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੇ ਗੇੜਵਿਚ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਤੇ ਪਾਪ ਦੀ ਠੱਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਲੋਕਾਈ (ਆਪਣੇ ਦੁੱਖ) ਰੋ ਰਹੀ ਹੈ। ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਾਹ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਦੀ ਸਮਝ ਆ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦੀ (ਲੋਕਪਰਲੋਕ ਵਿਚ) ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।੬।

ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਤਉ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਕੰਤੁ ਮਨਾਇ ॥ ਮਤੁ ਸੇਜੈ ਕੰਤੁ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਏਵੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਪਿਰ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਤਉ ਬਣਿਆ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥ ਕੀਆ ਤਉ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਸਹੁ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ ਭਉ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਤਬੋਲ ਰਸੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਉ ਕਰੇਇ ॥ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸਉਪੇ ਕੰਤ ਕਉ ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਭੋਗੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੧॥ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ! ਤਦੋਂ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਬਣਾ ਜਦੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਖਸਮ ਨੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਕਰ ਲਏਂ, (ਨਹੀਂ ਤਾਂ) ਮਤਾਂ ਖਸਮ ਸੇਜ ਤੇ ਆਵੇ ਹੀ ਨਾਹ ਤੇ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਐਵੇਂ ਵਿਅਰਥ ਹੀ ਚਲਾ ਜਾਏ। ਹੇ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ! ਜੇ ਖਸਮ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਮੰਨ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਬਣਿਆ ਸਮਝ, ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਦਾ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੋਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਕਬੂਲ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਖਸਮ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰੇ।ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜੇ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਡਰ (ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ) ਨੂੰ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਨ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਬਣਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਨੂੰ ਭੋਜਨ (ਭਾਵ, ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦਾ ਆਧਾਰ) ਬਣਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਨ ਮਨ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਪੂਰਨ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਵਿਚ ਤੁਰਦੀ ਹੈ) ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਖਸਮ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ।੧।ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਕਾਜਲ ਫੂਲ ਤੰਬੋਲ ਰਸੁ ਲੇ ਧਨ ਕੀਆ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥ ਸੇਜੈ ਕੰਤੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਏਵੈ ਭਇਆ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥੨॥ ਅਰਥ: ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਨੇ ਸੁਰਮਾ, ਫੁੱਲ ਤੇ ਪਾਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਰਸ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ, (ਪਰ ਜੇ) ਖਸਮ ਸੇਜ ਤੇ ਨਾਹ ਆਇਆ ਤਾਂ ਇਹ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਸਗੋਂ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ (ਕਿਉਂਕਿ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਦੇ ਕਾਰਣ ਇਹ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ) ।੨।ਮਃ ੩ ॥ ਧਨ ਪਿਰੁ ਏਹਿ ਨ ਆਖੀਅਨਿ ਬਹਨਿ ਇਕਠੇ ਹੋਇ ॥ ਏਕ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਧਨ ਪਿਰੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥ ਅਰਥ: ਜੋ (ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਸਰੀਰਕ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ) ਰਲ ਕੇ ਬਹਿਣ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਸਲ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਖਸਮ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਖੀਦਾ; ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੋਹਾਂ ਜਿਸਮਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਇੱਕੋ ਆਤਮਾ ਹੋ ਜਾਏ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਤੇ ਉਹ ਹੈ ਪਤੀ।੩।ਪਉੜੀ ॥ ਭੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਭਉ ਊਪਜੈ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਰੰਗੁ ਸਵਾਰਿ ॥ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਤਾ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਰਿ ॥ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਅਤਿ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਭੇਟਿਆ ਕ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥ ਭਉ ਭਾਉ ਸਭੁ ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਸੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥੯॥ ਅਰਥ: ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਡਰ (ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿਣ) ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦੀ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਣ ਸਕਦਾ (ਭਾਵ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਲੱਗ ਸਕਦਾ) ; ਇਹ ਡਰ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਪੈਦਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲੇ, (ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ) ਡਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ (ਭਗਤੀ ਦਾ) ਰੰਗ ਸੋਹਣਾ ਚੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਹੈ।(ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਡਰ ਤੇ ਪਿਆਰ ਦੀ ਸਹੈਤਾ ਨਾਲ) ਹਉਮੈ ਤੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਾਰ ਕੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਦੇ) ਰੰਗ ਨਾਲ ਰੰਗੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ; ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਿਆਂ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਤੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।ਇਹ ਡਰ ਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਜਿਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ (ਬਖ਼ਸ਼ਿਆ ਮਿਲਦਾ) ਹੈ ਉਹ ਆਪ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ (ਹਰ ਥਾਂ) ਮੌਜੂਦ ਹੈ।੯।Shalok, Third Mehl:O bride, decorate yourself, after you surrender and accept your Husband Lord.Otherwise, your Husband Lord will not come to your bed, and your ornaments will be useless.O bride, your decorations will adorn you, only when your Husband Lord's Mind is pleased.Your ornaments will be acceptable and approved, only when your Husband Lord loves you.So make the Fear of God your ornaments, joy your betel nuts to chew, and love your food.Surrender your body and mind to your Husband Lord, and then, O Nanak, He will enjoy you. ||1||Third Mehl:The wife takes flowers, and fragrance of betel, and decorates herself.But her Husband Lord does not come to her bed, and so these efforts are useless. ||2|lThird Mehl:They are not said to be husband and wife, who merely sit together.They alone are called husband and wife, who have one light in two bodies. ||3||Pauree:Without the Fear of God, there is no devotional worship, and no love for the Naam, the Name of the Lord.Meeting with the True Guru, the Fear of God wells up, and one is embellished with the Fear and the Love of God.When the body and mind are imbued with the Lord's Love, egotism and desire are conquered and subdued.The mind and body become immaculately pure and very beautiful, when one meets the Lord, the Destroyer of egoFear and love all belong to Him; He is the True Lord, permeating and pervading the Universe. ||9||

ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ ਧਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥ ਮਾਨੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤਜੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੈ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਲੀਆ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੧॥ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਖੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਣ ਨੀਸਾਨੀ ॥ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਤਜਿ ਲਾਜ ਲੋਕਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਕਉ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ॥ ਸੋਈ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ॥ ਸਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੨॥ ਗਰਬਿ ਗਹੇਲੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵੈ ਜਬ ਰੈਣਿ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ॥ ਕਰਮਹੀਣਿ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰੀ ਜੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੪॥੩॥ ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਣ ਦੀ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੀ (ਮੈਥੋਂ) ਸੁਣ ਲੈ। (ਉਹ ਨਿਸ਼ਾਨੀ ਉਹ ਤਰੀਕਾ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਲੋਕ-ਲਾਜ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਨੇ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹਵਾਲੇ ਕਰ ਦੇਹ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ। ਹੇ ਸਹੇਲੀਏ! ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਲਾਹੁਣ-ਜੋਗ ਹੈ, ਸੁਹਾਗ-ਭਾਗ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਂਝ ਬਣਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਜੇਹੜੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ। ਉਹ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਪਭੂ-ਪਤੀ (ਦੇ ਪਿਆਰ-ਰੰਗ) ਵਿਚ ਰੰਗੀ ਹੋਈ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦਾ ਆਤਮਕ ਆਨੰਦ ਮਾਣਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।੧। (ਇਕ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ) ਸਹੇਲੀ (ਦੂਜੇ ਸਤਸੰਗੀ) ਸਹੇਲੀ ਨੂੰ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਮਿਲਾਪ ਦੇ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਬਾਰੇ) ਸਮਝਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਆਖਦੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ) ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਉਹੀ ਕੁਝ ਕਰਦੀ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਸੁਹਾਗ-ਭਾਗ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।੨। (ਪਰ) ਜੇਹੜੀ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਪਤੀ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਥਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕਦੀ। ਜਦੋਂ (ਜ਼ਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੀ) ਰਾਤ ਬੀਤ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਤਦੋਂ ਉਹ ਪਛੁਤਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਆਪਣੇ ਹੀ ਮਨ ਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਤੁਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਉਹ ਮੰਦ-ਭਾਗਣ ਜੀਵ-ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਂਦੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੀ ਹੈ।੩। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਲੋਕ-ਲਾਜ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਮੈਂ ਤਾਂ ਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰਾਂ, ਜੇ ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਤੇ ਦੂਰ ਵੱਸਦਾ ਸਮਝਾਂ। ਉਹ ਨਾਸ-ਰਹਿਤ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤਾਂ ਹਰ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਆਪਕ ਹੈ। ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ (ਤਾਂ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੇ) ਅੰਗ-ਸੰਗ (ਵੱਸਦਾ) ਵੇਖ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੪।੩। SOOHEE, FIFTH MEHL: Blessed is that soul-bride, who realizes God. She obeys the Hukam of His Order, and abandons her self-conceit. Imbued with her Beloved, she celebrates in delight. || 1 || Listen, O my companions — these are the signs on the Path to meet God. Dedicate your mind and body to Him; stop living to please others. || 1 || Pause || One soul-bride counsels another, to do only that which pleases God. Such a soul-bride merges into the Being of God. || 2 || One who is in the grip of pride does not obtain the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. She regrets and repents, when her life-night passes away. The unfortunate self-willed manmukhs suffer in pain. || 3 || I pray to God, but I think that He is far away. God is imperishable and eternal; He is pervading and permeating everywhere. Servant Nanak sings of Him; I see Him Ever-present everywhere. || 4 || 3 || This Shabad composed by Guru Arjan Dev Ji (in Raga Soohee) describes the traits of a spiritually fulfilled soul-bride (suhaagan) and the path to merging with the Divine Creator. Key Spiritual Insights Surrender and Divine Will (Hukam): True union with God requires letting go of pride, ego, and the obsession with social approval or pleasing the world. One must fully dedicate mind and body to God and live according to Divine Will. Fellowship and Guidance (Satsang): Spiritual seekers guide and support one another to live in harmony with God's desires, helping each other align with the Almighty. The Peril of Ego (Manmukh): Those bound by pride and self-centered desire remain separated from the Divine presence. They spend their lives chasing illusions, facing deep regret when their lifespan ("life-night") expires. Immanence of God: God is not distant or unreachable; the Eternal Creator is fully present in all places and at all times. The realized devotee experiences God continuously everywhere.

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ ਜਿਸੁ ਜਲ ਨਿਧਿ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਤੁਮ ਜਗਿ ਆਏ ਸੋ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਛੋਡਹੁ ਵੇਸੁ ਭੇਖ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਇਹੁ ਫਲੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥ ਮਨ ਰੇ ਥਿਰੁ ਰਹੁ ਮਤੁ ਕਤ ਜਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਢੂਢਤ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਘਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਘਟ ਮਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਛੋਡਿ ਗੁਣਾ ਕਉ ਧਾਵਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਪਛੁਤਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਸਰ ਅਪਸਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਕੀਚ ਬੁਡਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਲੋਭ ਬਹੁ ਝੂਠੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਕਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਸਦ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਤਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਤਿਆਗਹੁ ਸਚੁ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੯॥ ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ! ਅੰਦਰ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਟਿਕਿਆ ਰਹੁ, (ਵੇਖੀਂ, ਨਾਮ-ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਵਿਚ) ਕਿਤੇ ਬਾਹਰ ਨਾਹ ਭਟਕਦਾ ਫਿਰੀਂ। ਜੇ ਤੂੰ ਬਾਹਰ ਢੂੰਢਣ ਤੁਰ ਪਿਆ, ਤਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਦੁੱਖ ਪਾਏਂਗਾ। ਅਟੱਲ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਰਸ ਤੇਰੇ ਘਰ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੈ, ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਹੈ।ਰਹਾਉ। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜਿਸ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਦੇ ਖ਼ਜ਼ਾਨੇ ਦੀ ਖ਼ਾਤਰ ਤੁਸੀ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਆਏ ਹੋ ਉਹ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਸੋਂ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਹੈ; ਪਰ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਭੇਖ ਦਾ ਪਹਿਰਾਵਾ ਛੱਡੋ, ਮਨ ਦੀ ਚਲਾਕੀ ਭੀ ਛੱਡੋ (ਬਾਹਰੋਂ ਸ਼ਕਲ ਧਰਮੀਆਂ ਵਾਲੀ, ਤੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਦੁਨੀਆ ਨੂੰ ਠੱਗਣ ਦੀ ਚਲਾਕੀ) ਇਸ ਦੋ-ਰੁਖ਼ੀ ਚਾਲ ਵਿਚ ਪਿਆਂ ਇਹ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ-ਫਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲ ਸਕਦਾ।੧। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਔਗੁਣ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਜਤਨ ਕਰੋ। ਜੇ ਔਗੁਣ ਹੀ ਕਰਦੇ ਰਹੋਗੇ ਤਾਂ ਪਛੁਤਾਣਾ ਪਏਗਾ। (ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਤੂੰ ਮੁੜ ਮੁੜ ਮੋਹ ਦੇ ਚਿੱਕੜ ਵਿਚ ਡੁੱਬ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈਂ, ਤੂੰ ਚੰਗੇ ਮੰਦੇ ਦੀ ਪਰਖ ਕਰਨੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਦਾ।੨। (ਹੇ ਭਾਈ!) ਜੇ ਅੰਦਰ (ਮਨ ਵਿਚ) ਲੋਭ ਦੀ ਮੈਲ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਲੋਭ-ਅਧੀਨ ਹੋ ਕੇ) ਕਈ ਠੱਗੀ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋ, ਤਾਂ ਬਾਹਰ (ਤੀਰਥ ਆਦਿਕਾਂ ਤੇ) ਇਸ਼ਨਾਨ ਕਰਨ ਦਾ ਕੀਹ ਲਾਭ? ਅੰਦਰਲੀ ਉੱਚੀ ਅਵਸਥਾ ਤਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਬਣੇਗੀ, ਜੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਦੱਸੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਉਤੇ ਤੁਰ ਕੇ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਮ ਜਪੋਗੇ।੩। (ਹੇ ਮਨ!) ਲੋਭ ਛੱਡ, ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਤੇ ਝੂਠ ਤਿਆਗ। ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਬਚਨਾਂ ਤੇ ਤੁਰਿਆਂ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ-ਫਲ ਮਿਲੇਗਾ। ਹੇ ਦਾਸ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਦਰ ਤੇ ਅਰਦਾਸ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਹੈ ਤਿਵੇਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਰੱਖ (ਪਰ ਇਹ ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਸ਼ਬਦ ਵਿਚ ਜੁੜ ਕੇ ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕਰਦਾ ਰਹਾਂ।੪।੯। This Shabad by Guru Nanak Dev Ji emphasizes that the true purpose of human life is to connect with the divine nectar of the Lord's Name (Naam), which resides within oneself rather than in external rituals. Seek Within: The ultimate spiritual treasure is found within your own heart (ghat maahi). Wandering externally in search of peace or spiritual fulfillment leads only to suffering and disappointment. Reject Hypocrisy and Deception: External religious attire, worldly cleverness, and duplicity cannot bring true spiritual progress. Inner purity cannot be achieved by merely washing the physical body while retaining greed and falsehood within. Abandon Vices, Embrace Virtues: True transformation requires renouncing corruption, slander, greed, and lies. Engaging in sinful acts ultimately leads to regret, trapping one in the "mud" of worldly attachment. Follow the Guru’s Wisdom: The divine nectar is received through the Guru's teachings (Gurmukh). By contemplating the Guru's Word (Shabad) and chanting the immaculate Name, one attains inner liberation. Humble Submission: The Shabad concludes with a prayer of devotion, submitting entirely to God's divine will (Hukam) and expressing a desire to constantly praise the Almighty.

ਜੈਤਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਘਰੁ ੨ ਛੰਤ ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ ਊਚਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਥਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਅਕਥੁ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਗਤੀ ਰਾਖਨ ਕਉ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥੧॥ ਛੰਤੁ ॥ ਜਿਉ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖੁ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰਿਆ ॥ ਕੇਤੇ ਗਨਉ ਅਸੰਖ ਅਵਗਣ ਮੇਰਿਆ ॥ ਅਸੰਖ ਅਵਗਣ ਖਤੇ ਫੇਰੇ ਨਿਤਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਸਦ ਭੂਲੀਐ ॥ ਮੋਹ ਮਗਨ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਤਉ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਘੂਲੀਐ ॥ ਲੂਕ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਖੜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨੇਰ ਹੂ ਤੇ ਨੇਰਿਆ ॥ ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਕਾਢਿ ਭਵਜਲ ਫੇਰਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਅਰਥ: ਸਲੋਕੁ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ-) ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨ ਆਇਆ ਹਾਂ, ਤੂੰ (ਸਰਨ ਆਏ ਦੀ) ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਦੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਰੱਖਦਾ ਹੈਂ। ਹੇ ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚੇ! ਹੇ ਅਪਹੁੰਚ! ਹੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ! ਤੂੰ ਸਭ ਦਾ ਮਾਲਕ ਹੈਂ, ਤੇਰਾ ਸਰੂਪ ਬਿਆਨ ਨਹੀਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਬਿਆਨ ਤੋਂ ਪਰੇ ਹੈ।੧। ਛੰਤੁ। ਹੇ ਹਰੀ! ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੈਂ ਤੇਰਾ ਹਾਂ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਜਾਣੋ ਤਿਵੇਂ (ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਤੋਂ) ਮੇਰੀ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਕਰ। ਮੈਂ (ਆਪਣੇ) ਕਿਤਨੇ ਕੁ ਔਗੁਣ ਗਿਣਾਂ? ਮੇਰੇ ਅੰਦਰ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਔਗੁਣ ਹਨ। ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਮੇਰੇ ਅਣਿਗਣਤ ਹੀ ਔਗੁਣ ਹਨ, ਪਾਪਾਂ ਦੇ ਗੇੜਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਫਸਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ, ਨਿੱਤ ਹੀ ਸਦਾ ਹੀ ਉਕਾਈ ਖਾ ਜਾਈਦੀ ਹੈ। ਭਿਆਨਕ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੇ ਮੋਹ ਵਿਚ ਮਸਤ ਰਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, ਤੇਰੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਬਚ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀ ਜੀਵ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਵਿਕਾਰ (ਆਪਣੇ ਵਲੋਂ) ਪਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਤੂੰ ਸਾਡੇ ਨੇੜੇ ਤੋਂ ਨੇੜੇ (ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ) ਵੱਸਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਸਾਡੇ ਉਤੇ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ, ਸਾਨੂੰ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਦੇ (ਵਿਕਾਰਾਂ ਦੇ) ਗੇੜ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਕੱਢ ਲੈ।੧। ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ ਨਿਰਤਿ ਨ ਪਵੈ ਅਸੰਖ ਗੁਣ ਊਚਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਨਾਉ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀਆ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਿਥਾਵੇ ਥਾਉ ॥੨॥ ਛੰਤੁ ॥ ਦੂਸਰ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਉ ਕਾ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥ ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ॥ ਤਜਿ ਮਾਨ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਏਕ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈਐ ॥ ਅਰਪਿ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਗੈ ਆਪੁ ਸਗਲ ਮਿਟਾਈਐ ॥ ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਧਾਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਾਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥੨॥ ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਅਣਗਿਣਤ ਗੁਣਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਨਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮਣਾ (ਵਡੱਪਣ) ਸਭ ਤੋਂ ਉੱਚਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀ (ਉਸੇ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਹੀ) ਅਰਦਾਸ ਹੈ ਕਿ (ਮੈਨੂੰ) ਨਿਆਸਰੇ ਨੂੰ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ) ਥਾਂ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਏ।੨। ਛੰਤੁ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਵਾਸਤੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਥਾਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ, (ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਦਰ ਛੱਡ ਕੇ) ਅਸੀ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸ ਦੇ ਪਾਸ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ? ਦੋਵੇਂ ਹੱਥ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਅੱਠੇ ਪਹਰ (ਹਰ ਵੇਲੇ) ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਆਪਣੇ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰ ਕੇ (ਉਸ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਮਨ-ਮੰਗੀ ਮੁਰਾਦ ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲਈਦੀ ਹੈ। (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਅਹੰਕਾਰ, ਮੋਹ, ਅਤੇ ਕੋਈ ਹੋਰ ਆਸਰਾ ਭਾਲਣ ਦਾ ਭੈੜ ਤਿਆਗ ਕੇ ਇਕ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਹਜ਼ੂਰੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਰੀਰ ਭੇਟਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ) ਸਾਰਾ ਆਪਾ-ਭਾਵ ਮਿਟਾ ਦੇਣਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ (ਤਾਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਦਰ ਤੇ ਹੀ) ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ (ਤੇ ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ!) ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰ (ਤੇਰੀ ਮੇਹਰ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਤੇਰੇ) ਸਦਾ-ਥਿਰ ਰਹਿਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਚ ਲੀਨ ਹੋ ਸਕੀਦਾ ਹੈ।੨। ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਭ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਾਥਿ ॥ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਬਹੈ ਸਾਥਿ ॥੩॥ ਛੰਤੁ ॥ ਸਾਥੀਅੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ਦੂਸਰ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਪੂਰ ਸੋਇ ॥ ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਰਬ ਦਾਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਧਨੀ ॥ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਅੰਤੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕਿਆ ਗਨੀ ॥ ਭਜੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੁਖਹ ਗਾਮੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨਾ ਅਨ ਨਾਹਿ ਕੋਇ ॥ ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥ ਅਰਥ: ਹੇ (ਮੇਰੇ) ਮਨ! ਜਿਸ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਹੱਥ ਵਿਚ (ਸਾਡੀ) ਹਰੇਕ (ਜੀਵਨ-) ਜੁਗਤਿ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਮਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ-ਧਨ ਇਕੱਠਾ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ, (ਇਹੀ ਧਨ) ਸਾਡੇ ਨਾਲ ਸਾਥ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।੩। ਛੰਤੁ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਹੀ (ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲ ਨਿਭਣ ਵਾਲਾ) ਸਾਥੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ (ਸਾਥੀ) ਨਹੀਂ। ਉਹੀ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਹਰੇਕ ਥਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਵੱਸ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਹ ਮਾਲਕ-ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਾਣੀ ਵਿਚ ਧਰਤੀ ਵਿਚ ਆਕਾਸ਼ ਵਿਚ ਵਿਆਪ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਸਭ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਦਾਤਾਂ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਗੋਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ (ਦੇ ਗੁਣਾਂ) ਦਾ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਪੈ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਹਨ, ਮੈਂ ਉਸ ਦੇ ਗੁਣ ਕੀਹ ਗਿਣ ਸਕਦਾ ਹਾਂ? ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਉਸ ਮਾਲਕ ਦੀ ਸਰਨ ਪਿਆ ਰਹੁ, ਉਹ ਹੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਸੁਖ ਅਪੜਾਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਹੈ। ਉਸ ਤੋਂ ਬਿਨਾ (ਅਸਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦਾ) ਹੋਰ ਕੋਈ (ਸਹਾਰਾ) ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ। ਨਾਨਕ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ-ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਸ ਉਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਹਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮ ਹਾਸਲ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।੩। ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ ਚਿਤਿ ਜਿ ਚਿਤਵਿਆ ਸੋ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੁਖ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥੪॥ ਛੰਤੁ ॥ ਅਬ ਮਨੁ ਛੂਟਿ ਗਇਆ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਲੇ ॥ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਲੇ ॥ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਮਿਟੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਬੁਝੀ ਤਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਨਿਆ ॥ ਗਹਿ ਭੁਜਾ ਲੀਨੇ ਦਇਆ ਕੀਨੇ ਆਪਨੇ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥ ਲੈ ਅੰਕਿ ਲਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣਾ ਦੁਖ ਜਲੇ ॥ ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਇਆ ਧਾਰੀ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਇਕ ਪਲੇ ॥੪॥੨॥

Sanctuary in God and the Guru: True happiness and supreme ecstasy come from taking refuge in the Creator and following the Guru's teachings. Straying from this path results in deep spiritual torment. Divine Will and Holy Company: Human action is ultimately guided by Divine Will (Hukam). Guru Nanak Ji emphasizes that true immersion in God's presence is attained through the humble guidance and congregation of the Saints (Sadh Sangat).
