Beck Did It Better

Van Halen: Van Halen (1978) w Jon from Edina ep. 292

Listen, This album rips. It's so good that I had to reach out and BEG our guest to come on. Jon loves all things guitar and so I had to bring him on to talk about Eddie and the boys and literally his boy later in the band's life. And what a life that was. I knew more about Van Halen and its members than any band ever. Thats crazy when you think about it. We discover a new thing Aaron is into and then hear him spin a terrifying yarn. Then Russ talks us to the most fiber filled bracket ever. Listen to this ep and then go back and listen to the Destiny's Child one again and a lot of the jokes make more sense and it also explains why we never seem to mention Russ's BIG NEWS. Also I got in big trouble at home making the paroduy song at the end but it was worth it. Next week we have the Breeders and Last Splash.

Russell's BIG NEWS

Listen, this is a podcast bit you can send to anyone and it is no boring watch stuff, just Russells Rolling Going. Send it to everyone you know to share our wonderful news. You can't say this podcast has not had a story arc.

Destiny's Child: The Writing's on the Wall (1999) ep. 291

Listen, we can tell you all about our favorite watches or some mystery shoes that we sent to us in the mail but this episode has the biggest news that (thus far) has been dropped on the podcast ever. Its so big, I am going to release a second episode this week that is just Russ's Rolling going. We talk Destiny's Child and Beyonce and the perils of going against her online or even if you are in Destiny's Child itself. Finally, we have a lot of inception type jokes in this one so get ready to relisten to this one after Van Halen next week and it will make more sense.

Beck Does it Again! John Lennon: Imagine (1971) orig aired

Rubs eyes. Oh man... where am I? I thought today was sept 9th! Its the day Lennon released this album. This has one of my favorite parody songs and a lot of jokes about women I love making love to people who aren't me. This episode made me laugh made me what to go to Vegas. We get the origins of East St. Paul, and the origins of Aaron's weird relationship with his car dealer. The bleeped joke was "loose slots" I hated that I remembered that.

Outkast: Speakerboxx/The Love Below (2003) ep. 290

Listen. This is a great album and all. There is some funny stuff here in the middle and at the end but mainly, we get to hear a record buying list from Aaron and it is exactly what you think it would be. We talk breweries, the importanance of visiting friends, how Rob is dealing with his Cpap. Then we give some more showering tips and do a list that Russell does NOT like. Next week we have Destiny's Child: The Writing's on the Wall

A TRIBUTE TO DOLLY PARTON

We replay all the times we talked Dolly Parton on the podcast and then replay our Coat of Many Colors episod

Björk: Post (1995) ep. 289

We've driven through the mountain passes of Iowa to bring you this episode about Björk's 2nd album Post. We head out to the field of dreams, get expensive tickets to a game, and Aaron has a car dealer say "Please leave me alone." Then we go over more of our favorite cereals and don't talk about nearly as many mining accidents as we did last week. So put on your latex and meet us next week when we check out an underground album called Speakerboxxx/ Love Below by Outkast. (kind of)

The Modern Lovers: The Modern Lovers (1976) ep. 288

FROM ROLLING STONE: Jonathan Richman moved from Boston to New York as a teenager in hopes of sleeping on Lou Reed’s couch. That influence shows on the two-chord anthem “Roadrunner.” Recorded in 1972 but not released until 1976, Lovers turned the tough sounds of the Velvets into an ode to suburban romanticism. “Rock & roll was about stuff that was natural,” Richman said. “I wasn’t about drugs and space.” Songs like “Pablo Picasso,” “Girl Friend,” and “Dignified and Old” touched generations of punk and indie-rock innocents. Note From Rob: Some of the audio for the sfx and music sucks because my computer sucks. How can a MacBook bought this year not handle RECORDING A PODCAST? I am too lazy to fix it all, and the music is not that great anyway.

The Byrds: Mr. Tambourine Man (1965) ep. 287

Hey everyone, Look out for those bedposts this week as we talk a Faux British invasion and we go deep underground for the Byrds/ Bob Dylan mash up of Hey Mr. Tambourine Man. We talk going up to Alaska, barfing on a boat, getting your fiber and why Hublots just plain blow on this three man weave of an episode. Then we turn up the treble and listen to this divisive album while also talking about the biggest mining disasters of all time (these days it would be a data mining disaster) Next week we talk The modern Lovers by The Modern Lovers. If you have heard of the band, I am impressed.

Beck Does it Again: Ready to Die by the Notorious B.I.G. (1994) Orig Aired 1/26/21

In 1994 on this day Biggie married Faith Evans and very little else happened on that date so this is the ep you are getting while we finish up our summers. To be honest, I have no idea if this is any good or not but it is episode 22 which is very funny unless you understand the concept of aging. Enjoy. If you hate this, you will really hate beckdiditbetter.com 802 277 BECK and the voicemail is NOT full. That is a rumor.

Red Hot Chili Peppers: Californication (1999) ep. 286

Today we are talking big life changes by way of when you get better at baseball, and then we talk a LOT of baseball before Rob shares the horrors of the plane ride over. Then we chat about the best songs about handiwork, and we sample the wondrous (and glowing) Mountain Dew Donut by Kwik Trip. Then we get our bong di biddie bing bong on with another Rick Rubin joint (stop selling crypto) and talk about a banger of an album that should be higher on the list. Next week, we have the Byrds with Hey, Mr. Tambourine Man. visit Beck Did It Better.com and call or text 802 277 BECK

Big Star: 3rd/ Sister Lover (1978) Ep. 385

BECK Does a Clip Show! The best of the Crash Test Dummies, LIVE, and Dirty Granny

On this day (July 14th), 60 years ago (1966), Ellen Reid was born. She was the keyboardist for the band the Crash Test Dummies! So I compliled all times we mentioned them. Then that wasn't enough time so I grabbed all the times we talked about LIVE and then I added Dirty Granny because why not? We are recording this Friday so we probably will have an episode soon.

Today is the day this Album became #1 in the U.S. in 1962, and I thank God every day I wasn't around then. It sounds boring as hell. Apple didn't like how I uploaded this so I had to do it again. Frank Sinatra: Into the Wee Hours of the Morning (1955) ep. 282 (with special Guest MagicMike69)

Russ is on load management so we have very special guest, Magic Mike 69 to talk about Frank Sinatra, his phrasing, and the first concept album ever. It's basically like when adult stars have sex with their fans except it would be like our fans are better at having sex on camera. Think about it. We talk what (not) to say to your daughter's prom dates, adult social anxiety, Beck being on tour, and Mike's piano journey. Then we get into old blue eyes as he pretends to be sad (we know the reason he is not) and then we have two seperate lists! Don't be like cave divers and just stop and give up! Down load this ep (which you did if you are reading this.) Next week Big Star and Three/ Sister Lovers.

Donna Summer: Bad Girls (1979) ep. 283

Russ is on his two-game suspension for not laughing enough at my jokes, so it is just the menage a tois of the other three, and, much like a gas, we expand to fill the space. We finally talk about sidecars, we do some more random clips, and Matt gives Rob some texting etiquette. Then Rob sees Madonna and has a New York night. The we talk early electronic music and the queen of disco, Donna Summer, from her start in Germany to her ruling over a burning kingdom. Next week we are talking something or other. Leave a voicemail 802 277 BECK.

Merle Haggard: Down Every Road (1962-1994) (1996) ep 284

We have Little Rosie on and we talk quitting our dumb jobs, where to retire and then some state songs. Then we chat about Merlin Haggard (#1 Merle) and instead of a 100 dumb songs we picked 14 and they rip. We get to see the brothers talk about physical media (shocking) and Aaron has a few drinks in San Fran (Double Shocking) and Rob has a revelation that his mom should not listen to. Next week is Donna Summers Hot Stuff (I think) Leave a voicemail 802 277 BECK. I know the segment was better now but we need voicemails.

Harry Nilsson: Nilsson Schmilsson (1971) ep. 281

Today we become the best Harry Schilsson podcast even if we really like his son! We play a fun parody song, talk about taking your kids to a concert, people sitting in the back (I didn't realize they were kids he was talking about) and Russell gets a new obsession. Then we listen to one of the most beautiful songs of all time and the. The coconut song song comes on. Next week we have Frank Sinatra, in the wee small hours.
