Long before becoming one of the most recognizable transgender performers in adult entertainment, Mia was an artist, fashion designer, student, caregiver and young woman trying to build a life entirely on her own terms. Then fame came. In this episode of Ava Devine's Bad Advice, I sit down with Mia Isabella for an intimate conversation about her childhood, transgender identity, race, family, fashion, adult entertainment, relationships, fame, the Tyga controversy, depression and what it actually means to live freely. Mia takes us back to growing up in East Tennessee, where she says she understood herself as feminine from the age of five despite having no concept of what being transgender meant. She describes the moment she finally chose freedom over that life, leaving almost everything behind, driving to Las Vegas and rebuilding herself as Mia Isabella. Then we talk about the controversy that changed everything. Mia addresses the Tyga scandal, what she says actually happened when the story exploded online, the impersonation accounts she says helped ignite the controversy and why she believes the public narrative reduced an entire career to one sensational story. She also explains why she has never wanted to publicly discuss the intimate details of her relationships with famous men. For Mia, those relationships were between human beings, not headlines. But the consequences of public scrutiny were very real. She explains how the scandal damaged the career she had spent years building, affected her relationships and professional opportunities, contributed to a deep depression, and ultimately led her to retreat from interviews and public attention for nearly a decade.
