BYU Beat Iowa State. Is It Enough for Notre Dame?

BYU beat Iowa State. Was it pretty, was it ugly, was it enough? Join us in the living room for the recap, and join the community at truebluecougar.com. Honestly, it was a little of everything. The defense looked elite. The offense moved the ball all night until it got near the end zone. Two fourth downs we could not believe, a muffed punt, and a few drops that were right in the hands. Notre Dame is coming to LaVell Edwards Stadium on Saturday, so we have to ask whether this was enough. We get into all of it. Whether this offense has gelled yet. The fourth down calls, and why we keep running up the middle and throwing the fade. Our concerns about special teams. And the tight end breakout game we have been waiting for. Then we settle the Larsen Line and call the score prediction winner. Then it is King of the Y, homecoming edition. Bear Bachmeier put up huge numbers, and our defense was nasty from the corners to the front. Five players, one crown, and the room could not agree. A very special guest pulls up a chair to help settle it. We close with the Blue Goggle Award, and it goes to one of you. Who is your King of the Y? Drop it in the comments. We read every one. BYU Is Banged Up Before Iowa State. Should We Panic?

BYU is down a bunch of starters and Iowa State is coming to LES hungry. Join free at truebluecougar.com and go post your score prediction on the pinned thread. Grab your All In On Blue gear: https://allinonblue.myswaggymerch.com/ LJ Martin looks out. Cannon DeVries is probable. Siale Esera should be back. And somewhere in there we lost count of how many starters we are missing. So how worried are we? Depends who you ask. Some of us are watching Iowa State like a hawk. Some of us are blue goggles guys and it is next man up. Brad Larsen joined us at the table this week. So we get into all of it. Iowa State's passing attack, which is more dangerous than the record says. Aiden Flora, who is averaging 8 yards a carry with no long run skewing it. Whether the secondary gets its real test this week, maybe even more than Arizona. Who runs the ball without LJ. And whether that offensive line has finally gelled, because Bruce Mitchell and the guys up front were doing real damage on Bear's last touchdown. Then the Larsen Line, with three new numbers from Taylor. BYU rushing yards. Iowa State passing yards. And Walker Lyons receptions. Somebody went way, way under, and I mean way under. Then score predictions. They are not close to each other. We finish with the Blue Goggles comment of the day, brought to you by True Blue Cougar. It turned into a full playoff math argument. Notre Dame, Utah, Texas Tech, tiebreakers, and somebody guaranteeing something I do not think is legally binding. Next up: Iowa State at LaVell Edwards Stadium, Friday night at 8:15 MT on ESPN. What is your score? Drop it in the comments before kickoff. We read every one. WATCH AND JOIN True Blue Cougar. BYU Won Ugly in the Rain. Are We Worried?

BYU won ugly in the rain, and we are not all in the same place on how worried to be. Join the family free at truebluecougar.com. Everything happening in Cougar Nation in one place, plus the Cougar Community message board. Grab your All In On Blue gear: https://allinonblue.myswaggymerch.com/ It was soggy, it was sloppy, and nobody is putting this one on a highlight reel. Bear Bachmeier carried the offense when the passing game could not hold on to the ball. Faletau Satuala took one 59 yards the other way. Tausili Akana lived in the backfield. And BYU never trailed. Some of us watched it with a calm face and some of us were panicking on the couch. So we get into it. Was this a gritty road win BYU needed to have in the bank, or a warning shot? What it means that LJ Martin went down early and the whole game plan changed. Why the injuries have us asking real questions about depth, and whether the twos and threes are ready when it counts. And whether a wet game in Fort Worth tells us anything about Notre Dame. Then the Larsen Line gets settled, and one of us finally got one right. We argue our way through King of the Y with five names on the board and a very close vote at the top. The belt goes to someone who was not even in the room for the pick. And the Blue Goggle comment of the day comes from a True Blue Cougar friend who said exactly what we were all thinking. So tell us in the comments. Are you worried, or are you just glad we got the win? We read every one. Plus we welcome a special guest, Brad Larsen, all the way from Missouri. WATCH AND JOIN True Blue Cougar. BYU at TCU Is a Playoff Game Now

BYU at TCU is a playoff game now. BYU hasn't won in Fort Worth since 2006, and the committee just gave itself a new reason to leave a Big 12 team out. Watch the show and join free at truebluecougar.com Saturday, 5 p.m. MT on ESPN at Amon G. Carter Stadium. Grab your All In On Blue gear, 20 percent off everything right now: https://allinonblue.myswaggymerch.com/ BYU is 3 and 0, ranked 10th, and coming off a bye. TCU is 2 and 2 and coming off a loss at UCF where four turnovers killed them. On paper this should be ours. But TCU has the talent to beat anybody who shows up flat, Jaden Craig can throw it, and Jordan Dwyer is back. Plus every team in the Big 12 has BYU circled now. So we get into all of it. Losing Andrew Gentry, our starting right tackle since the day he walked on campus, and whether Bott Mulitalo is ready. Why the tight ends could be the key to the whole offense. Whether this defense has a single hole in it. And why being a little more disciplined than TCU isn't good enough with Notre Dame coming. Then the Larsen Line, with a twist. Taylor is the only one taking the under on a Legend Glasker touchdown, so the rest of us put our own points on the line. Double or nothing. Somebody's standing takes a hit next week. Then score predictions, all five of them, Cass included. She's still leading, by the way. Keith gets the Blue Goggles and cannot see a single thing through them. We close on the rankings. BYU dropped from 9 to 10 on a bye week, and the playoff committee just added strength of conference to how it picks teams. We have thoughts. A lot of them. What's your score for BYU at TCU? BYU Hasn't Done This Once All Season

David opened this one with a question and it hung over the whole episode. Is BYU at Notre Dame shaping up to be the most important game this program has played since the national championship? BYU is 3 and 0 and ninth in the AP. Notre Dame is sitting at three. Watch the show and join the Cougar Community free: https://truebluecougar.com/ But first, Colorado State. Our offense came out and looked as sharp and clean as we have ever seen it. LJ Martin went for 173 yards in the first half. Our backs were averaging 3.6 yards before anybody on their defense even touched them. That offensive line is opening holes so big that David is pretty sure he could still get through one. All In On Blue gear: https://allinonblue.myswaggymerch.com/ Then there is the other side of it. Colorado State went right down the field on our opening drive and it got our attention fast. We adjusted, we rattled their quarterback, we were fine. And then the fourth quarter happened. Penalties, sloppy play, two touchdowns we had no business giving up. We were watching at grandma and grandpa's house, and grandma said it felt like we had just lost the game. So here is what we keep coming back to. Three games in, BYU still has not put a complete game together. One half is dominant and the other one drifts, and it was true last season too. Against Colorado State that costs you nothing. Against Notre Dame it costs you everything. We grade all three phases and we are not close to agreeing on the defense. One of us has it at an A minus. Two of us are a lot lower than that, and we get into exactly why. Then King of the Y, five players, and one of them might be the most underrated guy on this defense right now. The Larsen Line results are in, and we have something embarrassing to admit. For the second week in a row, the closest score prediction in this room did not belong to any of us. It belonged to Cass, our technical operator, at 37 to 16. She came out, took the belt, and told us her secret. Then she told us a little more than she meant to. We read your comments, we get into Cannon DeVries as a Tanner Wall type, and we close on Notre Dame. Drop your grades in the comments. Offense, defense, special teams. And tell us if you think Notre Dame is the biggest game BYU has played in forty years. We read every one. WATCH AND JOIN True Blue Cougar. How Many Points Does BYU Hang in Fort Collins?

BYU is 2 and 0, ranked 11th, the highest ranked team in the Big 12, and Saturday is the first road game of the season. So we sat down and put everything on the record. How many points BYU hangs in Fort Collins. Who has the biggest game. And whether the whole "trap game" thing everybody is running this week actually holds up. Grab your All In On Blue gear, 25 percent off: https://allinonblue.myswaggymerch.com/ Here is what makes it interesting. Colorado State is not the 2 and 10 team you remember. They are 2 and 0 for the first time since 2011, they are averaging 46.5 points a game under Jim Mora, and four days ago they put 58 on Southern Utah. Hauss Hejny has nine touchdowns in two games. Mel Brown went for 171 yards on nine carries. And BYU has not played this program since 2010, which means Canvas Stadium has had this Saturday circled all year. We get into whether this defense travels the way it played at home. Whether our offensive line controls the line of scrimmage. And whether Bear Bachmeier finally has the game through the air this team has been waiting on. Every one of us lands on a key to the game, and three of us land on almost the same one. Then the Larsen Line, back with three new numbers. Bear's passing yards. Team sacks. And how many points we let Colorado State score. Here is what you need to know going in: Keith took the over on all three, Taylor took the under on all three, opposite every single time. One of those guys is going to be very quiet next week. Then the score predictions, and they got out of hand. One of us went somewhere nobody at the table saw coming. Cass came in off the board with hers too. The Blue Goggle Award goes to a Utah fan this week. We did not see that coming either, and honestly it made our day. We close with breakout player calls, which is really us filling out next week's King of the Y before a snap gets played. Two interceptions from one guy. A corner most of you have never heard of. And a running back who still has not had his game this season. BYU at Colorado State. Saturday, 5:30 on CBS. Drop your score prediction and your three Larsen Line calls in the comments. We read every one, and we steal the good ones. Shout out to Drew Stevens, friend of the show, who got us into the Arizona game. That offer stands for anybody else. Extra tickets or a line on press passes and we will put you on the show and give you live analysis from the seat right next to you. WATCH AND JOIN True Blue Cougar. BYU Beat Arizona by 11. It Wasn't That Close.

BYU beat Arizona by 11 and it wasn't that close. Second half: 87 yards of offense for Arizona, minus 2 on the ground, zero points. Put the scoop and score back on the board and we are talking about a completely different number. Grab your All In On Blue gear, 25 percent off: https://allinonblue.myswaggymerch.com/ Now the honest part. We trailed 17 to 14 at the break and it was not fun. Arizona marched down the field on the opening drive like they had our script. Noah Fifita did not miss a throw in the first half other than the one Cade Uluave took away from him, and he might be the best quarterback in the Big 12 right now. Then Kelly Poppinga made whatever adjustment he made at halftime and Arizona never scored again. So we get into all of it. What actually changed at halftime and whether the guy who changed it deserves player of the game. Why LJ Martin got four carries in the first half and sixteen in the second. Whether that fourth down spot was the right call and what it did to the rest of the night. Tausili Akana living in the backfield in the fourth quarter. And Kyler Kasper, a kid from Arizona, scoring the first two touchdowns of his career against the state he grew up in. We also grade the offense and the defense. Neither one got an A. Then we debut a new segment. King of the Y, where we rank the top five players of the game and then argue about it. You get a vote on this one. The poll is live at truebluecougar.com, so go settle it for us. Plus the first Larsen Line gets settled, somebody is already running away with most accurate correspondent, and we hand out the Blue Goggle Award to one of you. We Barely Beat Arizona Last Year. Not This Time

We barely beat Arizona last year. Down ten in the fourth, two overtimes, and we got out of Tucson alive. Not this time. They are coming to LES. Saturday, 1:30 on FOX at LaVell Edwards Stadium. Grab your All In On Blue gear before kickoff, 25 percent off through this next week: https://allinonblue.myswaggymerch.com/ BYU put 63 on Utah Tech and it told us almost nothing. Bear played one half. The twos played most of the night. Arizona is a completely different animal. Noah Fifita went 22 of 29 for 262 against Northern Arizona and might be the best quarterback in the Big 12 not named Bear Bachmeier. LJ Martin ran for 162 on the Wildcats last year and Brent Brennan is still bringing it up this week. So we get into all of it. Whether our edge rushers can keep Fifita in the pocket, why our offense against their defense is where this game gets won, what still worries us about the secondary, and why LJ might matter more this Saturday than he did all of last week. Then we call it. Three score predictions, and one of them got the blue goggles pulled out immediately. We also debut a new segment. The Larsen Line, where David sets a number and the rest of us go on the record over or under. Three calls this week. We settle every one of them next episode and we are keeping score all season, so by November you will know exactly who to listen to. What is your score? Drop it in the comments before Saturday. BYU's 63 to 7 Proved Nothing. He Did.

BYU beat Utah Tech 63 to 7 and that score told us almost nothing about this team. Legend Glasker did. Three touchdowns in the first half from a true freshman in his first college game. RG3 was tweeting about him by the end of the night. In a game where BYU could only hurt itself, he was the one thing the Cougars actually gained. NEW ALL IN ON BLUE MERCH IS LIVE 25% off for the first two weeks. Grab something and rep the family. https://allinonblue.myswaggymerch.com/ Keith, David and BJ break the whole night down from the living room. How much can you really learn from a 56 point win? We hand out grades, and there is one unit that got an A plus that has nothing to do with the roster. 64,000 people stayed loud for a game that was decided in three drives. David brings the Y Mountain, his top 10 players of the game stacked four levels deep. Bear Bachmeier sits at the top after a night where he did not need to run to be the best player on the field, and Legend lands just under him. Keith made his case for Kyler Kasper, BJ moved Kendal Wall up over Cannon DeVries, and David had to defend a list he originally called a pyramid until the table renamed it. Tell us who we got wrong in the comments. We also get into the depth at receiver that answered every question from fall camp, the second half coverage from the backup defensive backs that is the one thing actually worth watching, the missed 47 yarder, and the injuries that could change how this season looks. Plus the Blue Goggle comment of the week, why BYU is the only school in the country with every fall sport ranked, and BJ owing 140 pushups because he called a shutout. Arizona is next. BYU's Underdog Era Is Over | True Blue Cougar Joins the Show

BYU is not sneaking up on anybody anymore. Every team on the schedule has us circled now, and Saturday it starts. We are proud to welcome our new partner, True Blue Cougar. Join free at truebluecougar.com. Michael Peterson and Nick Peterson came into the living room to talk about what they are building over there. John Beck to Jonny Harline on a janky pay per view stream in a Virginia office, and Michael walking into a BYU game as a brand new convert and hearing a full stadium go silent for a prayer. That one is worth the watch by itself. We also get into the Kalani and Santiago friction. Was it real? We think so, and we do not think that is a bad thing. We think every other school is about to do exactly what BYU just did. Then we put True Blue Cougar on the spot with True Blue or Too Blue, talk about the trap games nobody is circling yet, get into what we are actually watching for against Utah Tech, call our score predictions, and finish with what the Big 12 needs from BYU this season. They're Finally Taking BYU Seriously

BYU landed at 14 in the AP preseason poll. The number matters less than what it means. After 23 and 4 over the last two years, people are finally looking at BYU and thinking these guys might really have something. We're under two weeks from kickoff, so we got into who we're most excited to watch this season. Turns out we couldn't narrow it down. Legend Glasker, Reggie Frischknecht, Bear Bachmeier, Faletau Satuala, Kade Uluave, and what Kelly Poppinga changes on defense. Plus Jackson Kohler picking BYU over Kentucky, Kansas, and Michigan State, and where Dallin Hall ended up. Who are you most excited to see against Utah Tech? Tell us in the comments. Season’s Done. Bowl Is Coming. Let’s Talk About What Really Matters.

Season’s Done. Bowl Is Coming. Let’s Talk About What Really Matters. This week is a quiet one for BYU Football, but there’s still plenty to talk about. With the regular season officially wrapped at 11–2 and one final bowl game ahead, we break down what this season actually meant for the program, what BYU proved, and where the Cougars go from here.
