Accessibly Ever After

Ashton McGrady & Kailey Waskall

Accessibly Ever After is a beauty and lifestyle podcast reimagining makeup, skincare, and cosmetic design through an accessibility-first lens. Created by disabled creators and accessibility advocates, Ashton McGrady & Kailey Waskall, this show exists because too many beauty products still aren’t designed for real bodies, real hands, or real lived experiences. We’re here to change that.

Each week, we review makeup and skincare products, break down what makes packaging accessible (or inaccessible), celebrate thoughtful design wins, and share practical ways to adapt beauty routines for disabled, chronically ill, and neurodivergent makeup lovers. From easy-open packaging and grip-friendly tools to formulation, usability, and inclusive design, we go beyond trends to talk about what actually works.

Once a month, we release a minisode featuring guests from the beauty industry, accessibility experts, and individuals who creatively adapt products and routines to fit their unique needs.

Our community helps guide the conversation. Follow us on Instagram @AccessiblyEverAfter to submit questions, share accessibility wins or frustrations, and help shape future episodes. All products and resources mentioned are linked in the show notes.

And They Lived Accessibly Ever After... BRB

In this season two finale of Accessibly Ever After, Ashton and Kailey are getting personal, getting opinionated, and getting ready for a little fall break. Through an accessibility-first lens, they explore what makes a product genuinely usable, from packaging and applicators to grip, texture, size, and the little design choices that can either reduce friction or create an entirely unnecessary battle. They also take on a listener question about toothbrushing, opening up a bigger conversation about sensory needs, neurodivergence, executive functioning, and the reality of keeping up with everyday care when your brain or body does not always cooperate. Rather than focusing on what you should be doing, they share practical, low-pressure ways to make oral hygiene more manageable and meet yourself where you are. As they wrap up season two, Ashton and Kailey reflect on what the podcast has meant to them and look ahead to season three. Accessibly Ever After will be taking a short fall break before returning October 7, so consider this your official permission slip to rest, recharge, and make your own routines work for you. Crown Collective 👑: Bella M.

In this episode of Accessibly Ever After, Kailey and Ashton sit down with Isabella “Bella” Morton-Smith, founder of Flexxi Beauty, an occupational therapist turned makeup artist turned founder who is building adaptive tools for the beauty industry. While studying to be an OT, Bella spent her days working as a makeup artist and began noticing a disconnect: beauty products were becoming more advanced, but the brushes and tools people used to apply them hadn’t really changed in years. That left many people with arthritis, Parkinson’s, cerebral palsy, hand injuries, tremors, and other disabilities struggling to access the same beauty experiences. That realization sparked a five-year process of prototyping, testing, and designing alongside people with lived experience, ultimately leading to the Flexxi Brush, featuring a palm strap, magnetic interchangeable heads, and zero required grip or wrist rotation. Bella also shares what it’s like to bridge the worlds of occupational therapy, beauty, disability, and entrepreneurship, the importance of designing with disabled people rather than simply for them, and her vision for the future of adaptive beauty. Deep Into the Well: Dieux Skin

This week on Accessibly Ever After, Kailey and Ashton are doing a deep dive into Dieux Skin, one of the internet's most loved skincare brands. Dieux was founded in 2020 by Charlotte Palermino, Joyce de Lemos, and Marta Freedman. Palermino spent a decade in media before becoming a licensed esthetician and one of skincare's most outspoken myth busters online. De Lemos is Dieux's cosmetic chemist, with a background formulating for brands like SkinCeuticals and Kiehl's. The brand launched with the Forever Eye Mask and built a reputation on transparency, real formulation science, and a "buy less, buy better" philosophy that runs counter to most of the beauty industry. In this episode, Kailey and Ashton talk through why Deliverance Serum has earned a permanent spot in both their routines, and what makes Instant Angel and Skin Mercy so effective for skin barrier support. They also cover why the Baptism and Ethereal cleansers stand out in a category full of stripping, overcomplicated formulas, choosing between fragrance-free and scented cleansers, the reusable Forever Eye Mask, and the accessibility and real-world trade offs of aluminum tubes, pumps, and tins as packaging. Crown Collective 👑: Katy C.

In this episode of Accessibly Ever After, Kailey and Ashton sit down with Katy Cottam, founder and CEO of Luna Daily, the microbiome-balancing body care brand on a mission to bring intimate skin out of the shame spiral and into the same self-care conversation as the rest of the body. A beauty industry veteran with a resume that includes L'Oreal and Charlotte Tilbury, Katy walks us through her journey building Luna Daily from the ground up, the lessons she picked up along the way, and how her own experience with thrush and a disrupted skin microbiome became the spark for a brand that treats intimate skin with the same care as the rest of the body. Kailey and Ashton also dig into what Luna Daily's products look like through an accessibility lens. They talk through the value of multi-use, all-over formulas for anyone managing limited energy or mobility challenges, and how having fewer products and fewer steps can meaningfully reduce friction in a self-care routine. The conversation also gets honest about what happens when showering or basic self-care feels out of reach entirely, and how shame and stigma can compound that struggle, especially in a category that already keeps women in the dark about their own bodies. Grip It or Skip It: New Beauty Launches, Rated

Beauty was never designed with Disabled people in mind, but that doesn't mean Disabled beauty lovers are settling. This week, Kailey and Ashton break down the newest launches through an accessibility-first lens, from packaging that actually works in real hands to design choices that make a routine easier or impossible. The episode kicks off with two relatable disasters: a salt-shaker explosion at the movies and a coffee spill topped off with a bonk to the head. They're chatting why Rare Beauty's fragrance line (including the new Rare Beginnings EDP) is one of the most accessible in beauty, what makes Makeup by Mario's cream shadow promising for easy eye looks, and where e.l.f. x Bubble, Kylie Cosmetics' Moodstones, and Touchland x Troublemaker get it right or miss the mark, plus the latest Sol de Janeiro mists and a complexion launch sparking undertone debate. Perfect for anyone who wants to know what's actually worth your money, your time, and your spoons. Heads up: Some of the links below are affiliate links. Crown Collective 👑: Brooke P.

In this episode of Accessibly Ever After, Kailey and Ashton sit down with Brooke Parrish, a content creator and disability advocate born with Pfeiffer syndrome, a rare genetic condition that affects the bones of the skull, face, and limbs. Brooke spent years trying to hide her facial difference growing up, and today she is the creator behind @flourishinglydifferent, sharing her life with over 450K followers across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube. Together they unpack what it means to show up fully in beauty spaces that have historically excluded visible disabilities, and why representation matters so much. You'll hear Brooke talk about becoming the person she once needed to see online, how she handles everything from intrusive questions to well-intentioned comments that still land wrong, and how she filters out negativity without letting it take over her community. Ashton and Kailey also get real about internalized ableism and the difference between educating out of obligation and choosing when and how to respond. They also dig into what accessible beauty packaging actually looks like, from longer product designs to doe-foot applicators, and why brands need more than vague claims of inclusivity to earn trust from consumers. Deep Into The Well: Ellis Brooklyn

In this week's deep dive, we're getting into Ellis Brooklyn, the clean luxury fragrance brand founder Bee Shapiro built while pregnant and searching for a non-toxic scent she could actually trust. We walk through the full lineup, from gourmands like Queens Caramel and Bee to tropical favorites like Isla Sirena and Miami Nectar, and dig into our thoughts on "clean beauty," is it a real standard or mostly a marketing ploy? Then we get into the accessible packaging, specifically the magnetic cap on every full-size bottle. Reviewers rave about it, and it's easy to see why: no threading to align and no fumbling, just a satisfying snap-close that happens to work beautifully for anyone with limited hand mobility or grip strength. We're calling it what it is: an accidentally accessible win. We talk about what it means when a brand stumbles into inclusive design without ever naming it, and what they're leaving on the table by staying quiet about it. Crown Collective 👑: Storm M.

In this episode of Accessibly Ever After, Kailey and Ashton sit down with Storm Menzies, founder of ByStorm Beauty, to talk about adaptive makeup tools, disability-led design, and building an accessible beauty brand from the ground up. Storm has cerebral palsy and spent years working in the disability space before a hand injury revealed just how inaccessible everyday beauty products really are. Storm digs into what it took to go from clay prototypes to co-designing adaptive tools with occupational therapists and the disability community. She also shares what she wishes the beauty industry understood about designing with disabled people instead of just for them, and why representation in product development matters just as much as representation in marketing. Crown Collective 👑: Giovanna

In this episode of Accessibly Ever After, Kailey and Ashton sit down with content creator Giovanna (@glamgio_nyc) to talk bold beauty, graphic liner, and making space for neurodivergent creativity in the beauty industry. Giovanna has built a following of over 170k, known for her signature graphic liner looks and colorful, unexpected makeup pairings that break away from traditional glam formulas. Giovanna opens up about her own neurodivergence and how it shapes the way she approaches makeup as a form of self-expression and storytelling. She digs into how bold, experimental beauty can be a tool for confidence and identity, especially for those who don't see themselves reflected in mainstream beauty. She also talks about how overwhelming and stressful brand events can be, the sensory and social demands that often go unspoken, and what she wishes brands understood about creating a more accommodating experience. Deep Into The Well: Luna Daily

This week on Accessibly Ever After, Ashton and Kailey continue their brand deep dive series with Luna Daily, the microbiome-focused bodycare brand founded by Katy Cottam after her own experience with thrush following a course of antibiotics left her unable to use mainstream products on her most intimate skin. Ashton and Kailey dig into Luna Daily's mission to take intimate care out of the "feminine hygiene" aisle and into the everyday skincare conversation, and what accessible bodycare actually looks like for people managing chronic illness and disability. They also get into the practical side: what a lower-effort, one-step skincare product means on a low-spoon day, and where the brand could go further to meet chronically ill and disabled customers where they are. Is Luna Daily's mission to destigmatize intimate care backed up by accessible product design that holds up for chronic illness and disability, or is there still work to do? Tune in for an honest, product-by-product breakdown of accessible beauty and bodycare through a disability lens. Listen now and start seeing beauty differently. Crown Collective 👑: A Conversation with Dr. Julian Sass

In this episode of Accessibly Ever After, Kailey and Ashton sit down with cosmetic scientist and creator Dr. Julian Sass to unpack the science behind beauty products, sunscreen, and formulation. Dr. Sass holds a PhD in Biomathematics and Statistics from North Carolina State University and has spent his career translating complex cosmetic science for everyday consumers, a body of work that's been featured in outlets such as The Washington Post, Vogue, and Today. He's also the creator of a widely respected sunscreen database of over 500 products, built to help people, especially those with darker skin tones, find sun protection that truly works. From how products are actually developed to why so many sunscreens sting the eyes or feel unpleasant on the skin, Dr. Sass breaks down complex topics in a way that's clear, funny, and actually helpful. He digs into what consumers often misunderstand about sunscreen safety, why nuance matters when discussing "harmful" ingredients, and how brands can build more inclusive products from the very beginning of the development process. Dr. Sass also shares what true accessibility looks like in beauty, why packaging matters more than most people realize, and how small design choices can make a huge difference for disabled and everyday consumers alike. Deep Into The Well: Tilt Beauty

This week on Accessibly Ever After, Ashton and Kailey kick off a brand new format: full brand deep dives! First up is Tilt Beauty, the makeup line founded by Aerin Glazer after her own struggles with psoriatic arthritis inspired her to build something better. Ashton and Kailey put Tilt's ergonomic, refillable packaging to the test, breaking down what actually works (and what doesn't) for people with arthritis, chronic pain, low vision, and limited hand strength. They dig into the brand's Arthritis Foundation Ease of Use certification, the shortened mascara wand designed for shaky hands, the magnetic closures, the Braille packaging, and the Atkinson Hyperlegible font choice. Is Tilt Beauty the real deal for disabled and chronically ill makeup lovers, or just another brand riding the accessibility trend? Tune in for an honest, product-by-product accessibility review. Snow days, Wuthering Heights, & Beauty Products You Still Can’t Open

What do snow days, Wuthering Heights, and accessible beauty have in common? Somehow… everything. In this episode of Accessibly Ever After, Ashton McGrady and Kailey Waskall are catching up on life, from weekly highs and lows to navigating things like dental health, chronic illness, and the reality of energy levels in everyday routines. But as always, the conversation comes back to what matters most: making beauty more accessible, inclusive, and actually usable in real life. We’re diving into new beauty launches and trending products from brands like Fenty Hair, Westman Atelier, Patrick Ta, and Dibs Beauty, breaking down not just what they are, but how they function. Because a product can be beautiful, viral, and still completely inaccessible. From pump design and packaging ergonomics to in-store accessibility at places like Ulta, we’re talking about what works and what doesn’t. We also get into the importance of representation in media, the need for more joyful and colorful makeup, and why accessibility isn’t a bonus feature, it’s the baseline. Listen now and start seeing beauty differently. Heads up: Some of the links below are affiliate links. If you shop through them, we may earn a small commission (at no cost to you). Crown Collective 👑: A Conversation with Selena B.

Description: In this minisode of Accessibly Ever After, we’re joined by Selena, an occupational therapist and doctoral student specializing in accessibility in the beauty industry. Selena shares her journey through a non-traditional OT path and how her clinical perspective intersects with beauty, product design, and disability advocacy. Together, we explore the real gaps in accessible beauty products, from packaging and usability to representation in marketing and brand messaging. We dive into why accessible beauty is not a niche, but a necessity, especially for disabled, chronically ill, and neurodivergent consumers who are often overlooked in product development. Selena breaks down how occupational therapy principles like ergonomics, fine motor support, and energy conservation can directly inform more inclusive beauty design. We also talk about the role OTs can play in consulting with brands, improving accessibility standards, and advocating for more inclusive systems across the beauty industry. If you care about accessible beauty, inclusive product design, disability representation, and the future of beauty innovation, this episode is for you. Whether you’re a beauty lover, content creator, occupational therapist, or brand professional, this conversation offers practical insights and a fresh perspective on how we can build a more inclusive beauty space. Beauty, Burnout, and the Business of Keeping Up

Description: In this episode of Accessibly Ever After, Kailey Waskall and Ashton McGrady break down recent beauty launches through an accessibility lens, analyzing how product design and packaging choices impact real-world usability for disabled and chronically ill beauty lovers. They review new releases from Milk Makeup, Ellis Brooklyn, Good Molecules, Fenty Beauty, Makeup Revolution, r.e.m. beauty, Gisou, and CYKLAR, exploring how packaging features like pumps, stick applicators, refill systems, and grip-friendly shapes can make products easier (or harder) to use. Kailey and Ashton highlight accessibility wins in beauty packaging, unpack where design decisions still create barriers, and share their honest reactions to the latest launches across skincare, makeup, fragrance, and body care. They also celebrate the launch of the very first episode of Accessibly Ever After and thank listeners for supporting a new conversation in the beauty industry about inclusive design, accessible packaging, and beauty products that work for real people.
