The Real Story of Planet Patrol: Addiction, Survival & Purpose.

Before Planet Patrol helped define the sound of electro-funk, Herb Jackson, Rodney Butler and their bandmates were known as The Energetics, a Boston R&B group built on soulful harmonies, sharp choreography and classic showmanship. Then legendary producer Arthur Baker came calling. By combining the group’s R&B roots with the futuristic electronic sound Baker and John Robie were creating around “Planet Rock,” The Energetics were transformed into Planet Patrol, giving us influential records such as “Play at Your Own Risk.” But behind the music was a much darker story. In this honest conversation, Herb and Rod take us inside the wild parties, heavy drinking and drug binges that nearly cost them everything. They open up about the highs, the painful lows and the near-death experiences that forced them to confront where their lives were heading. Those moments ultimately brought them closer to God and helped them discover a new sense of peace and purpose. Now, Planet Patrol is entering another chapter. Herb and Rod reveal how they’re reinventing the Planet Patrol sound while staying connected to the soul, energy and legacy that made the group unforgettable. This is The Real Story of Planet Patrol: Addiction, Survival & Purpose. What Planet Patrol song takes you back the most?
