At Odds With Circumstances

There is a report being filed against you right now. It comes daily. Sometimes it arrives before you open your eyes — in the form of a number, a diagnosis, a silence where a voice used to be. It is detailed. It is confident. And it is loud. The question Paul raises in 2 Corinthians 4 is not whether the report is real. It is. He had his own: beatings, imprisonments, shipwrecks, a thorn in the flesh he couldn’t shake. He doesn’t minimize any of it. What he does is refuse to let it be final. “For which cause we faint not.” — 2 Corinthians 4:16 That opening line is a refusal before it is anything else. Not an explanation. Not a theology lecture. A refusal. We do not faint. We do not fold. We do not give in. And then he tells you why. You are not just surviving the trial. You are being made in it. Don’t give in to the darkness. See through it. This is a public episode. If you'd like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit ederrikporter.substack.com/subscribe
